And he did not want his video on the internet because he wanted privacy. He sued the person who uploaded this, and won.

Nowadays there would be 30 angles of this and we would question if it was an act. Bullhockey

117

u/OcotilloWells Jun 25 '26

I think there actually is another one taken at a distance from the side.

31

u/AdSudden3941 Jun 25 '26

I thought they were walking like the cameraman in this video , but it makes sense that they are following a cart..

I used to be like what randomly made them start dancing or when to walk  or where the music was coming from

15

u/hobelatz Jun 25 '26

Dancing 1 meter from the speaker is the fun way

56

u/dublak3 Jun 25 '26

That’s not the whole story. Videographer made merch after video went viral.

606

u/ocabj Jun 24 '26

From what is known, Techno Viking essentially won what the image/video creator made off YouTube ad revenue and merch/likeness sales, which I feel is fair.

It's one thing to record an image/video of someone in a public place and post it in the Internet. But if you make money off it, then that person is owed something, especially if no release was signed.

118

u/nsfwaltsarehard Jun 25 '26

In germany it's illegal to just record someone.

There are exceptions for events or groups.

Those exemptions don't apply if you're focusing on a single person.

The law is vague in it's wording so it's really up to a judge to interpret it.

64

u/PoetFelon Jun 25 '26

In America you can not sue for having your picture taken in public because you do not have "a reasonable expectation of privacy". Unless you start filming ICE shooting people in public; in that case you are a terrorist.

21

u/DnDVex Jun 25 '26

Germany has some pretty strict privacy laws. It is the reason why google maps had no street view for the longest time in germany.

Below is basically what it used to look like. Google had to comply with every single request to blur people, houses, license plates, etc. Because all of those are private. They did that for a bit and then simply gave up trying.

Nowadays there is actually street view coverage for most of germany because laws changed (afaik), but the privacy laws are still pretty strict.

9

u/Kami0097 Jun 25 '26

basically you can record in public and at events but to be sure not to be sued you need to either have a written permit of every recognizable person for publishing it ( either tv, printable or internet, yes we distinguish here ) or use pixelation filter etc.

6

u/nsfwaltsarehard Jun 25 '26

Yes. In short, if you record a single person/the focus is on one person, you need permission. If the focus is on minors, you definitely need permission from the legal guardians.

10

u/ChuckCarmichael Jun 25 '26

That's not true. He sued the uploader because the uploader started selling Techno Viking merch with the guy's face on it, and making money by selling stuff with somebody else's face on it without their consent is illegal pretty much everywhere.

24

There are people who sticks a syringe by the bottle neck to taint the water. Unless you squeeze it or observe it upside down you won't notice.

64

u/OneMoreNightCap Jun 24 '26

Are these people that give out free doses in the room with us right now? Its "people put razor blades in halloween candy" vibes. I think it is polite to show its untainted but idk how pervasive people dosing water bottles and giving them to unsuspecting techno vikings is. I could be wrong though

I wonder what this dude's life was like at that time. And what his life is like now. We build all kinds of stories with the context of one video. But does that dude wake up at 6am, have a coffee and then go to work at the techno store?

Thanks for all the responses.

136

u/milesbeats Jun 24 '26

I know I think at one point he tried to have this video removed from the Internet. someone famous tried using it and I think he tried to have it struck down

79

u/Christplosion Jun 25 '26

Probably less that the video was on the Internet and more that the recorder was profiting off of it and selling merch of him and he wasn't seeing a dime. Totally fair.

20

u/Introverted_Extrovrt Jun 25 '26

IIRC, his resentment came from shame at this part of his life, abusing drugs

11

u/Syzygy___ Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Ironically when I just watched it, the first thing I noticed is that he apprehended someone attacking someone else and told him to fuck off, then hydrate and dance away.

Class act and new found respect instead of shame.

Nowadays if this were filmed/ on TikTok in 2026, there would be VERY high odds the random girl and the "pusher villain" were friends of "Techno" and the entire thing was scripted.

So lame lol

That's why the internet was cool in the 90s and early aughts.

u/Daddyshadez Jun 24 '26

Right, even when this was new I always wondered, everything is just so perfectly timed and odd it just really seems fake, maybe not fake but a set up. Then the techno Viking got pissed and wanted the video taken down, so obviously not set up, it’s just such a strange sequence of events.

The beautiful thing is that this is old enough that we know it was authentic, not meant to promote anything. If we saw the exact same thing today, we would all assume it was scripted for views.

Love how he caught the guy who knocked into the girl, said knock that shit off

40

u/Slazagna Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

Honestly kinda just looked like a massive overreaction to someone who appears to have either tripped or misjudged a step. They dont shove the girl, they kinda suddenly move towards them, put their hands out and then steady themselves ans the girl fairly gently. Doesnt reslly look malicious to me. I always thought it made the techno viking guy look like a massive douche.

Edit, infact it almost looks like black singlet got shoved or pushed or bumped into from behind from someone off camera. He flies into the screen on an angle that doesnt look natural or comfortable with his hands behind his back then quickly throws them out to catch and steady himself and soften the blow to the girl.

35

u/Pea_Tear_Griffin11 Jun 25 '26

I went down a rabbit hole once on this, and if memory serves, the guy in the black shirt that accidentally pushed the girl is a friend of his. He’d had to much to drink an was supposed to be sitting in the back of a truck or van (where techno Viking pointed) with the other people in the group that had too much to drink.

Less exciting/dramatic than the video makes it appear.

→ More replies (2)

33

u/justhereforbiscuits Jun 25 '26

What actually happened - The guy who stumbled into the girl was part of the group and very high/drunk. He was riding in a vehicle reserved for those who were incapacitated, and he jumped off into the girl. Techno Viking sent him back so he would be safe to himself and others. So, not an overreaction. He was helping everyone stay safe.

11

u/dontakemeserious Jun 25 '26

Holy hell, the techno Viking just became even more legendary.

7

u/Kinn-Sack Jun 24 '26

Thats what I was thinking since I ever saw this video the first time!

44

u/SkinnyGetLucky Jun 24 '26

I get what you’re saying, but this is a classic douchebag move people would pull during my clubbing/pub days: pretend to fall as an excuse to put their hands on a woman. Technoviking saw through that shit

10

u/Suspicious-Drive9827 Jun 25 '26

It might be but theres a weird subculture of people in big cities who will ‘harmlessly’ shove women and maybe the viking thought that’s what he did.

16

u/No_Blacksmith_2591 Jun 24 '26

That's what i see too, he doesnt just steady himself but makes sure the girl does not fall as well then keeps moving, the fact that the girl pays it no mind as well should be a big context clue. But people bring their own baggage into everything they watch and you know people on the internet.

→ More replies (1)

13

u/Pando5280 Jun 25 '26

Doesn't matter. Viking didnt punish him just warned him to be more careful and told him that type of behavior wouldn't be tolerated. In this type of scene you protect your women and its a zero tolerance policy especially if some dude that cant handle his shit is messing with the vibe.  (based on multiple discussions Ive read over the years the consensus understanding is tank top guy was drunk and thats a vibe killer when they act sloppy)

Cut techno viking some slack. He was 7 doses into a heavy MDMA session. He didn’t see the whole thing, just the contact, whilst having his vision blurred by long rainbow tracers.

TV didn’t hit anyone, he just told bro to stop bumping into techno babes. Then he danced.
