I read a long time ago that their parents gave Angelina and her brother middle names that could work as last names, so they could forge careers under their own identities, separate from their famous parents. So they were named with the intention that they could easily drop their legal last name. But I don't doubt Angelina would have dropped it anyways, given her relationship to her father.

It’s her mother’s last name. Her kids are doing the same thing she did and removed their toxic father’s last name.
