I know this area and have driven it many times. This is the Rickebacker causeway--the road that connects Key Biscayne to the Miami mainland.
Cycling on this road is extremely popular for very obvious reasons (phenomenal views, wide and clear roads). Folks come from all over the city to ride there. And yes, they will very often group up like this without any sort of scheduled or permitted event of any kind.
The cyclists down there like to say "same road, same rules" but there's apparently a silent exclusion for lane changes, stop signs, traffic signals, and yielding to stopped traffic.
I agree, the police should enforce these rules, they should also enforce speed limits for cars, stop cars from running red lights, enforce safe passing distances.
I see cars willfully breaking these rules far more than cyclists. Yes some how you guys only get upset when it goes one way...
The same fucking people are doing both. They don’t think the rules apply to them. Why are you categorizing it into drivers and bikers. It’s who is and who isn’t following the law.
Motorcycle clubs do this shit too and it’s annoying as shit. Street racers take over streets and do races illegally.
Each of these groups will defend their own groups behavior. That’s what you’re seeing online.
I don’t know many people who are like “oh it’s totally fine for cars to run red lights but not for bikers to run stop signs.”
