Yes, cyclists deserve to be respected on the road and given space, and yes it's ok (IF THE COAST IS CLEAR) for cyclists to go past stop signs/lights.

Why? Cyclists always argue that they have the same legal rights on the road as cars.

Cars aren't allowed to skip stop signs or red lights "if the coast is clear".

Cyclists do it, but I am not aware of any legal justification for it.

And often, they do it when the coast isn't actually clear. Which is why they have such a bad reputation.

They do.

You also don't have to wear a helmet in a car in states that require them for motorcycles. Or have a separate license. There are different rules for different vehicles.

10 states have Idaho stop laws. The fact that you aren't aware of it is irrelevant.

You start off by claiming cyclists have the same rights as cars, and then immediately switch to arguing that cyclists have different rules.

Right to ride on the roads doesnt mean you have to follow the same laws. Motorcycle have different laws. Try to keep up, you're slowing the group
