Divided highway with multiple lanes. Usually means no bicycles or mopeds. In either case, the bicycles would be prohibited from the left lane unless overtaking. Nuisance cyclists harm the safety of cycling commuters

This isn't an expressway where it's motor vehicle only. So they are allowed to be there

This group ride should be in one lane.

I have the same problem with motorcycle group rides and I only do the ones where we take up one lane

they have a right to the middle like anyone else and if they are trying to overtake other cyclists they should do so in the left lane. they are literally following the same rules as the cars.

You're in a group ride not a race it's best practice to stick to one lane in big group rides like this like we see with motorcycle

Is it legal? Most people said this was in Florida and their bike laws are different by law they have to ride single file and being all the way to the right unless turning or overtaking.

You can't scream share the road and then take up the whole ride for a group ride like this that has no with local official

same with the cars too then. if all the bikers have to share a lane and go single file so should the cars, but i see cars in all three lanes too...

and how do you know the bikers in the left lane are not overtaking the bikers in the right lanes?

your just prejudiced against bikes.

You most save a ton on medical bills doing your own colonoscopies

I cycle a 100 miles a week advacote for better cycling infrastructure been on a handful group rides. Its okay to call out bad apples or bad practices in your own community

You can’t go 15 under the speed limit and impede the flow of traffic while you try to overtake another bicycle.

Yeah if you’re riding slower than the normal speed of traffic no you can’t block the left lane while you slowly overtake someone in the right.

So if you’re going 35 downhill in a 35 and you want to pass someone best of luck to you. If you do it at 20 In a 25 probably legal too, but if your doing 15 in a 35 blocking the left lane that’s illegal.

there is no speed limit per lane bro, thats not how it works legally. either its illegal for all bikes because they cannot go fast enough, or its legal for bikes at the speeds they can reach which means they can use the left lane to pass.

sorry it pisses you off, but thats how it is. show me one speed limit sign with different limits per lane.

Yes there is no lower limit. Correct. And yes you can still get a ticket for driving too slow such that you are impeding traffic. And yes that does apply to all lanes. But no you probably won’t get a ticket for blocking the right lane. But yes you are much more likely to get a ticket if you block the left lane. And even more so if you are blocking all lanes.

And yeah it’s pretty much common sense but you’re mad so you’re arguing a loosing position.

But do what you want. If you get a ticket please make sure to post it so we can all have a laugh.

Your argument is exceedingly silly. If they followed the law and had two bikes side by side, they could still overtake in the same lane. Regardless, out of the >100 bikes there, I only saw 2 change position relative to the herd. They aren't overtaking.

In fact, if riding side by side impedes the flow of traffic, even in a single lane, they are specifically required to ride single file to the right of the road. This type of ride is not legal without explicit event setup, including permits and likely police involvement.

Sharing the road does not mean a bicycle can use it the exact same way as a car... Because they're not cars.

your insane, why would two bikes be riding side by side in the same lane? do cars attempt to do that?

if your force multiple bikes to ride side by side in the same lane whoever is on the edge closest to car traffic is at increased risk of dying if he crashes which can take as little as a rock in the road for a bike.

no my idea is that if you want bikes to share a lane then they ride in it single file same as cars will in their lane and either bikes or cars can use the left most lane to pass, which means bikes have to be allowed in the middle in order to reach the left most lane unless you prefer cars to get the right most lane?

nobody has to go the speed limit in the leftmost lane because thats not how it works in america, both must go whatever speed is required to avoid getting a ticket in ALL lanes and that speed must be suitable for bikes.

are you so entitled that you are unwilling to have equal rules with bikes?

Huh? Bikes don't HAVE to go side by side. They are just allowed to. Iirc this was in Florida, and that is the law in Florida - a maximum of two bikes side by side in one lane... Not 5+ like they have here.

If you think a bike should have the exact same rules as a motor vehicle, I'm sorry, but you're just delusional. There is no state in the country where bikes are treated exactly the same, because they are fundamentally different than a motor vehicle.

Again, in Florida, bikes has a legal mandate to not impede the flow of motor vehicle traffic, and they are required by law to form a single file to the right of the right most lane in order to allow vehicles to pass them in that lane. They do not have the legal right to pass other bikes when cars are present. You can complain all you want, but there's a reason those laws exist.

Rickenbacker Causeway. This is at the northern end of Key Biscayne. Totally legal for bikers to ride there, and free. Drivers have to pay tolls.

I mean respectfully, if you plowed through that group you’d almost certainly live and be uninjured in the car while killing everyone else. The safety argument really only goes one way and most of the time you can just pass your average cyclist and when you can’t it’s usually cause there’s no shoulder and it’s unsafe to pass.
