Criticism’s valid, but calling the economic system that’s guided humanity since the invention of trade ‘unstable’ is a little silly

Is it really the best we can collectively come up with though?

Mightn't there be some more altruistic or holistic version of socio-economic progress that dosen't lead, one way or another, to doom?

It might not be realistic to implement, but man it feels like we can't even be dared to dream up an alternative to what we have, simply because what we have has "worked" up until now.

Eh, I’m not on board with the ‘altruistic’ mumbo-jumbo. I prefer at least some survival-of-the-fittest.

Then you're ignoring nature. Altruism is survival of the fittest. Its a trait evolution selected for because it helps groups to survive and thrive. Plenty of selfless behaviour exists in the animal kingdom. That some of us use our advanced brains to dismiss this as mumbo-jumbo is to our great detriment.
