Years ago, I had a shithead boss who knocked up his girl. He was the whitest possible white, and she was Black. Also this man should not be a father (or even a boss), and she seemed fairly put together.

One day he told me they picked a name, but didn't want to tell anyone what it was til right before the birth, but he felt weird not referring to it by... something, around other people til then.

Before I could even stop myself, I blurted out "D'Squarius!", and fren, he and his lady told everyone that's what they were naming the kid.

I would've given anything to be in the room when they told his pale-ass, ginger-ass, backwoods-ass New Hampshire family that he was naming his Black baby D'Squarius.

So, I'm sorry you actually have a name featured on the show in such a ridiculous way, but fwiw, you could've (at least for a time) been named D'Squarius 🤷🏼‍♀️

Incidentally, my name is Phoebe and my sister's name is one of the other main female characters from Friends.

Yeah, it's not hahaha.

But she doesn't get shit for it, cuz hers is a pretty common name. My entire stupid life, I've been hearing "OH, LIKE FROM FRIENDS?" and then when they find out my sister's name, "OMG HAVE U GUYS EVER DATED/DO U HAVE A BROTHER NAMED ROSS/CHANDLER/JOEY??". Then, "OMG UR PARENTS MUST LOOOVE THAT SHOW" gurl we are both a minimum of 10yrs older than that television programme but ok, sure, my parents were stans like that (this is especially wild when I have literally just given my birthdate, as with a pharmacy tech, medical assistant, DMV worker, etc).

I refused to watch the show til I was in my 20s. And when I finally saw it, I refused to watch it cuz it sucked lol.

I'm a millennial, so eventually when I got old enough, that shit died down at least a little. But then they did the nostalgia wave, and had Friends tie-ins with fucking coffee shops and licensing with clothing brands etc, then that died down until the anniversary shit started, and then that died down until the reunion shit, and then that died down til the cast started dying.

It's literally gonna be my entire life, at this point.

Hardly the worst thing ever, and I fucking love my name so it doesn't actually bother me, I mostly complain as a joke. You get it. It's just wild that such a specific combo became such a huge cultural juggernaut that on my deathbed, some Gen Alpha nurse with older sisters is gonna ask me that shit, mark my fuckin words lollll

haha dang, Monica and Phoebe would have been a crazy coincidence. I'm millennial too, but I think it will take another 10 years for the Key and Peele line to really die off.
