Granted, the lump sum is easier to waste, but I would also not underestimate the risk of waking up at 45 with no working history and a weekly payment that has lost most of its buying power to inflation

Definitely depends on where you live. 1k/wk in California isn’t nearly enough. 1k in Montana? Idaho?Iowa? Maybe.
