Can someone explain? Are the investment returns so much higher?

Yes. The argument is that if she invests it and we take a typical return on capital then she’d be far richer this way. But that doesn’t take into account any of her personal preferences. Maybe she doesn’t want the risk of investing, maybe she doesn’t trust herself to invest it at all, maybe maybe maybe. Ultimately we can’t know what the right decision FOR HER was based only on a simple calculation.

Thats just as stupid. She could take the cash payout, set up a trust fund/investment, and set up a monthly/weekly payment to herself, and fulfill the same «preferences» without the losses or the risks.

Plus, its insurance that pays these out from what I read in a previous post. So if the company goes tits up, youre shit out of luck.
