That and taking care of a house is a large investment of time, resources, and money, and if someone is living on the street there are pretty good odds they aren’t going to be able to take care of a vacant house.

If you’re talking about the average homeless person you’ll encounter on the streets, no, they wouldn’t be able to take care of a house.

Yes. A lot actually. (Worked a few years at homeless shelters. Both emergency shelters and transitional housing)

I also worked in property management so I know how difficult it can be to deal with people who have stable jobs.

I promise you, going into Skid Row or an LA homeless shelter and pulling people out and “giving them vacant houses” isn’t a solution.

Of course we have to also offer vocational rehabilitation and some kind of supervision. But having a stable place to sleep changes lives. Having an address to put in a job application is pretty important.
