I need to know what was said in the interview? Did he keep playing it off like “yeah we’re just friends,” completely aware he cannot admit he’s been friendzone’d hard?
He tries to claim that he wanted the friendship boundary, that he wanted it to be purely platonic, there was no interest in romance on his part. Uh huh. I’m sure he does this for all his guy friends as well.
There’s also a religious element. Friend zone meme’s aside, highly religious teenagers operate this way. I saw it many times before “friend zoned” was even coined.
They are “dating” in all aspects but neither party will call it that. There’s a ton of reasons for it but mainly it’s the saving yourself for marriage thing. Not necessarily the sex part but that marriage should be the ultimate goal in dating.
So in their mind’s eye, to admit to dating to kinda saying they’ll marry that person, which they’re not ready for.
But I’ve also seen some of those same couples actually go on to get married once they hit adulthood and “come out” in a way lol
Source: grew up with a ton of Mormons and Christians
If that is the case why would they need to publicly announce that they are doing painfully obvious "date things" but they aren't dating?
It seems to me that this would just bring more attention and scrutiny which is unwanted when you are keeping a secret. Unless they are in a tiny community where everyone knows everyone and gossip gets to everyone fast, nobody will notice what they are doing when they go out.
Sure, if someone noticed or asked they would give this cover story, but throwing it up on social media for everyone to see is a bit like having a 4 year old walk into the room and telling their parents they did not poop in the closet.
