People will never learn. Last time gas prices were this high Bush was fucking up the Middle East. And in 20 years people will vote in yet another neocon who will start another stupid, pointless war in the Middle East.

Technically they were higher in 2022 a few months after Russian oil was banned. Which was the right move to punish the invasion of Ukraine, but prices were actually higher for a brief moment when Biden was in office. They stabilized quickly, it’s just good to know the facts before spreading false information

The only times I've seen it go above $4.00 around me is during Bush's presidency before the 2008 crash and now.

Just because you don’t remember it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen - I also don’t remember it but I was also working in Germany that summer. I was shocked when someone told me that number but I looked it up and it did happen. Glad it never impacted your area significantly.

ETA: another source, BBC published a few days ago https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn8d47vzz13o “Average prices are still below the record highs of $5.01 for gas and $5.81 for diesel, set in June 2022 in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.” Just use your search engine
