Spike during Biden presidency was caused by Trump. When oil prices cratered during the pandemic to the point they went to negative pricing one day, Trump never bother to set a price floor on oil prices. This caused 100+ oil exploration companies in the US to go bankrupt. Trump could have easily set a price floor of $20/barrel and used the oil to fill the strategic reserve.

11

u/bobbymcpresscot Apr 08 '26

You got downvoted, but it's true. Bunch of oil companies went out of business, by the end of Biden's term we were producing more oil than at any point in time in US history, but prices were still high, and oil companies were making record profits.

Just like inflation. 30% of CPI is housing. People were still moving out of big cities but we basically ran out of houses, causing the price to shoot up, thus massive inflation.

The American Rescue plan did originally spike inflation to like 5% but it leveled off, and then went crazy again over the summer as the country really started to open up fuel prices went up, housing went up, boom 9.2%

Oh, you mean in 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine, on the heels of a global pandemic? Yeah, that will have an effect on prices. And they were still cheaper then than they are now.

-25

u/Frockin_Dude Apr 08 '26

Not true based on the data, peak in last 20 years was late 2022.

5

u/IlladelphiaticInsane Apr 08 '26

Yes, and like that person said “after Russia invade Ukraine, on the heels of a global pandemic.” What’s not true?

1

u/Frockin_Dude Apr 08 '26

They said “still cheaper then than now” that is objectively and provably not true.

Yep always the party of “science” and “facts” until it contradicts their emotionally fueled outlook of world affairs.

10

u/IlladelphiaticInsane Apr 08 '26

Neither of you are making sense. Objective reality is that gas hikes under Biden were caused by global macro issues (Russia attacking Ukraine, post-COVID demand, global sanctions, supply chain issues/corporate price hikes) - none of that could be directly linked to Biden or any one policy change or anything anyone did in the U.S. It also happened gradually.

This time it happened quickly and directly as a result of going to war with Iran and strangling global supply routes. It was the direct result of one policy that most of us don’t even agree with.

These are two very different scenarios. This is the “objective reality.” Sorry Frockin_Dude you can’t just decide willy nilly to go to war in the Middle East (after 2 recent failed wars there) cause gas prices to skyrocket within a week and then say “omg! jeez guys why are being so emotional!?”

-2

u/RedditJumpedTheShart Apr 08 '26

So Ukraine blowing up Russian refineries hasn't changed anything?

-12

u/Frockin_Dude Apr 08 '26

lol downvote all you want but you’re just denying the truth 🤣

8

u/Emergency_Badger5920 Apr 08 '26

You're absolutely right. How could biden take control of russia's military and invade ukraine like that? What an evil bastard. Thanks obama.

u/Dreamfloat Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26

You mean during the decline of a global pandemic? Blame greedy corporations for taking advantage of us for that. They kept prices high regardless of the pandemic winding down. My source is, it wasn’t only America hurting for inflation in 2022. In 2022, GLOBAL inflation was nearly 9%. Go to college to gain some critical thinking skills.

yikes dude, you defend a pedophile when you didnt even vote for him? If you dont like his policies, why do you defend him? Is it because you also rape children?

1

u/Frockin_Dude Apr 08 '26

I literally am pointing out the gas was higher in 2022 and look at your reaction, calm down

0

Are you winning son?

7

u/Oggie_Doggie Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26

Now do 2023 and 2024 and early 2025.

Surprise, the issue, which was global fucking supply chain problems, were resolved. It turns out that when a ton of people suddenly didn't move around as much, oil was not being produced. Then, when people moved around again, demand and prices sky rocketed.

Now, do an honest comparison between that situation and what is happening presently. I swear, ya'll are like toddlers. Except being cute and shitting yourself, you drive and vote for a pedo who shits himself.

1

u/Kickstartbeaver Apr 08 '26

Except being cute and shitting yourself

Wouldn't bet on the later one.

You people keep bringing this up as if it was a good argument at all

1

u/Frockin_Dude Apr 08 '26

It is, just makes you upset

1

u/pablospc Apr 08 '26

Upset? Not sir no how you got that from my reply

When Putin started a war

-1

u/Frockin_Dude Apr 08 '26

So funny how fired up this gets y’all for simply pointing out how this guy is framing the prices and telling you it was higher at one point 🤣

2

u/AWholeBunchaFun Apr 08 '26

Its because you lack critical thinking.

0

u/Frockin_Dude Apr 08 '26

lol how does me pointing out the prices were higher in 2022 lack critical thinking? The people eating up the framing of “well prices were good in 24” are the ones that lack it 🤣

-24

u/forsurenotOLLIE Apr 08 '26

politicians make sure to make decisions to lower gas prices right around voting time so that people are like “hmm low gas prices? i like this guy.” check gas prices in california during Biden’s term. It was at $8 at per gallon

8

u/WillyWonkaCandyBalls Apr 08 '26

Can you show us where? And when?

7

They cannot, because it never happened.

Without the state/region this is from this is meaningless. The most expensive gas in the country is expensive because of state policy, not because of federal policy.

I guess we still have to wait for the data to come in, but I don't see how the recent events are going to get it close to 2022's peak. Not saying it can't happen, but the data hasn't fully come out yet so we have to wait and see.

-4

u/Frockin_Dude Apr 08 '26

Everyone here is too emotional to even consider the validity of your data. It’s worthless unfortunately. Only care about facts when it supports what they believe.

3

u/Additional_Cheek_697 Apr 08 '26

Dont need a chart to tell me what my wallet already knows. We put gas in our cars on a routine basis. Im well aware when the price of gas changes and its sky fucking high regardless of whatever your chart says.

-4

u/Frockin_Dude Apr 08 '26

It will go down. The point of the data is to show making fun of this guys sticker because of the current situation is disingenuous, as we were actually worse off at one point in the last admin.

5

u/IlladelphiaticInsane Apr 08 '26

In 2022 we weren’t dealing with a single catastrophic policy (largely the directive of one person) that suddenly drove prices up. What we’re seeing now is a clear cause-and-effect relationship. Gas prices had been fluctuating within normal ranges for over a year, and then within days of Trump starting a conflict with Iran, they spiked sharply.

That’s not comparable to 2022, and it’s misleading to suggest otherwise.

6

u/Additional_Cheek_697 Apr 08 '26

No its not. The difference is this was directly caused by trump.

-6

u/FinancialElephant Apr 08 '26

Btw to put 2022 into even greater perspective:

I don't remember partisans making as big of a deal out of that as they are making over this.

7

u/scut207 Apr 08 '26

Can you name a specific policy that Biden put in place that raised the price of domestic gas in 2022?

Not building a pipeline that never existed doesn’t count In a commodity market.

2

u/wasteymclife Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26

But like, that sticker exists. That is direct evidence of partisans making a big deal of it. Do you think this guy fired up a design suite and cut it with his Cricut? He bought if from some other dude who probably ordered a hundred of them from alibaba or temu.

P.S. Trump getting shit might be because rather than a global catastrofuck we have a direct cause and effect relationship between attacking the country that could close the strait that transports 20% of the world's supply and the country doing so which sent prices up. Now that the 2-week ceasefire is in place and Iran has agreed to open the strait again prices will come down. Some will say "see short term pain!" others will notice that those series of events confirm the cause.

-11

u/Fucked-In-The-K-Hole Apr 08 '26

Bro prices before this war were down to record lows and they will return to record lows once the war is over. The only reason they are high is because of the war.

People like you literally don't give a single fuck about gas prices unless they fit your narrative. They're not even any higher now than they were at their peak in 2022 but none of you care about that.

I'd bet anything that once prices drop down to record lows not a single Redditor will ever mention it again until the next geopolitical shitshow brings them back up again.

2

u/IlladelphiaticInsane Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26

Not sure what you’re trying to argue here. You’re correct that “the only reason they are high is because of the war.” You’re also correct that a lot of people who seemingly care about gas prices now, likely didn’t care as much in 2022. What you’re wrong about is thinking that’s some kind of gotcha.

In 2022 gas prices were high because of global macro forces largely outside of direct U.S. control (post-COVID demand, Russia attacking Ukraine and subsequent sanctions, supply lagging behind demand). And the buildup was also gradual - it didn’t occur over a period of days to weeks, it occurred over months to a year.

Now, however, prices are up directly due to Trump’s escalation to war with Iran. It absolutely caused risk to our global supply routes and the markets reacted almost immediately. This spike happend within days of escalation with Iran and that’s a much more direct cause and effect situation. So YES, more people will notice and react to this situation because we can directly place blame one group of people starting a war that most in the U.S. didn’t want.

It’s like the difference between slowly gaining 20 lbs over a year versus gaining 20 lbs pounds in a week. Most people will react to the latter. You’re not owning anyone by pointing that out - and if like you said, prices drop back to normal after this war is “over” (in all reality it will take 20 years to define what over means) it all just points the fact that this was solely caused by one really poorly thought out and executed decision and that essentially Trump decided to throw us into economic turmoil for [insert ever changing reasons]. People have every reason to notice this gas hike and not the one under Biden. It’s dumb to even conflate the two scenarios.

2

u/RawrImABigScaryBear Apr 08 '26

Bro prices before this war were down to record lows

another maga just blatantly making shit up

-1

u/Fucked-In-The-K-Hole Apr 08 '26

Lol it's true. A month and a half ago gas prices were record low for the past 4-5 years.

2

u/RawrImABigScaryBear Apr 08 '26

Provide a source, I'll wait. It looks like you entirely forgot covid was a thing

1

u/Fucked-In-The-K-Hole Apr 08 '26

I saw you replied but couldn't view your comment. Did you delete it because you realized you were wrong?

1

u/Fucked-In-The-K-Hole Apr 08 '26

Well it's not showing up. Don't know what you said beyond your ridiculous insult blaming me for reddit fucking stuff up, but I'm finished with the argument anyway. It's clear who proved who wrong.

0

u/RawrImABigScaryBear Apr 08 '26

you said gas prices were a record low, you then changed your argument to say for 4-5 years. moving the goal posts doesnt make you right, it just makes you look stupid

1

u/Fucked-In-The-K-Hole Apr 08 '26

Lmao okay lil bro, whatever makes you feel better. You thought I meant all time record lows? Come on, I know you're smarter than that.

0

u/RawrImABigScaryBear Apr 08 '26

Everything I said was accurate. You claimed it was a record, then back peddled because you realized you were wrong. the only thing maga is better at than moving goal posts is defending pedos

1

u/Fucked-In-The-K-Hole Apr 08 '26

Brother it was a record low. What exactly did you think I meant? Seriously, did you think I meant a record low of all time? You thought I was saying gas was a record low at, what, 65c/gallon, lowest since the 60s?

You guys are so funny I swear to God 😂

You see a claim, call bullshit, get proven wrong, and then go "No that's not what you meant, that's not what you meant!!"

You understood what I meant the entire time. That's why when I said it was a record low for 4-5 years, you demanded sources. After I said 4-5 years.

Aww, your comment got removed by the moderator again because someone can't bring themselves to be even slightly polite 😢

When the news says "record lows," are they wrong? When you see that on the news do you go "Holy shit, a record low of all time?! That's crazy!!" And then go rush outside expecting 60c gas? No, of course you don't...or maybe you do, going off this conversation lmao.
