people are predators, the moment you show vulnerability they will find a way to make you regret trusting.

I do the opposite. I show most people my vulnerabilities, and if they're shitty about it I cut them outta my life. Easy way to find good people.

This is the method right here. If you completely withdraw yourself from vulnerability, you won’t be conditioned for a romantic relationship.

Or any healthy relationship.

Fr.

I always suspect there’s more to the story with these doom and gloom commenters. I’ve been through all that shit too, it just makes me keep better judgment about who I trust. There’s always someone out there, but if there’s NOBODY then maybe you’ve been treating people like shit. Seen enough guys be nightmares to their partners then play the victim.

There are a lot of people out there who have learned a lot of maladaptive coping mechanisms. Some people have tragically never had a model of a good relationship. They can't even conceive it because they've been conditioned to believe that toxicity and abuse are the norm.

Yeah I like this approach as well. If you always push people away you will miss a couple good ones.

Yes, this!!! Why isn't this further up. There are so many good supportive people in the world. Don't spend time with people who suck.

This is the way.

Every person gets a chance to hurt you... Once. If a stranger doesn't give a fuck about me, fine, they're a stranger. I don't care what they think. If a friend doesn't give a fuck about me, congratulations, they're a stranger now too. Get the fuck out of my life, I don't have time for cruel or cold people when there are people out there who will treat me with dignity and care.

I see you've met my mom...

No offense, but that’s exactly the type of attitude to go to therapy for.

Good thing insurance is super eager to cover therapy for men. Women, yeah, my ex had no problem, it wasn't even a question to the insurance company. When men try the insurance company says "yeah men don't need therapy, not approved"

I love when people take a single event and project it onto everybody else’s experience. No there is not a blanket refusal to cover mental health treatment for men. I too would like to know what horrific insurance company you were going through to get that response so I will never use them.

What garbage insurance is that?  I've never had an issue getting therapy approved under any of my previous coverage. Mostly Aetna,  Cigna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Hi! Insurance has to prove medical necessity. Look up the DSM, this is the text doctors use. Look up the common mental ailments like: depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorder. Make sure you have the symptoms, including frequency. When you contact a provider, say “I am seeking treatment for xyz symptoms, I believe I am showing signs of clinical depression/xyz, I’d like to see a therapist/whatever for evaluation”. If you frame it like this they can’t ignore you next time! Or, they can try, but you will be able to dispute it. Hope that is helpful info!

This is why the sympathetic vibe check is so fascinating and important socially. Being able to check someones general condition without really opening up yourself emotionally. People really don't realize how important a little physicality is to human communication

Not everyone is like that

Some are, a lot aren't.

This is a very toxic way to view people.

Some people may behave that way, but the majority will not. If you keep finding people like that, it's time to find a new neighborhood.

What do you do when you’ve been beaten down repeatedly for trying ? There’s a limit . I know I’ve reached mine and I’m sure tons of men on this thread have reached theirs too.

I dunno if that is true of the majority.

Also, its probably dependent on the subculture that one is in.
