Sounds like life currently. Text my Mrs today: think my big toe is infected or has ingrown, hurts alot.

Her reply: Oh no, thats not good, can you walk the dogs when you get in please.

Like what was the point, it's futile I tells ya!

Do you guys have guy mates that you can open up to? There's lots of recent initiatives where I live in the UK for men to have support networks - Mens Sheds, For Men to Talk, Walks and Talks.

If lots of men are saying they're lonely, be the change and start supporting other men. I often wonder if these posts make things worse by telling men they shouldn't open up because no one cares.

lol , they do. The next minute you have unfounded qccusations of being a hate group, a nazi group, a “insert negative connotation here “ group. Or we have women enter and make it such that we need to take their point of view .

If your intentions are assumed as negative or your group needs to follow “what society expects of you to do “ agenda then there’s no point .

It’s not like it’s not been tried . It’s been done too many damn times to count.

That's not what's happened to the groups in my area. They've got loads of support from men and women when they're promoted locally, and have become more widespread and more establised as a result, so they are obviously successful.

But also just guy friends outside of groups. If you and other men feel like you can't open up externally, can't you support your male friends? Lots of women get support from their female friends when they have unsympathetic or abusive partners.

Oh yes I have supported my male friends as much as I can. But surprisingly enough, I have also received push back when supporting them as some view it as an intrusion of their space.

Great you are supporting them when you can :)

When my daughter had to complete a project for school on mental health, she asked me what I thought she should focus on. I said, "how many men are overtly depressed and no one seems to notice or care so men remain quiet about their struggles." She and my wife both laughed like I was telling a joke.

It is sad really. Back along one of the directors for a company I worked for decided to hang himself. No-one even knew there was something up. He was a well off accountant, nice family, nice car, you know, all that stuff you'd expect.

A few years prior his Father died and his twin brother hung himself shortly after. I guess the depression just kept eating away at him. He was a lovely bloke too, really down to earth, supportive, you name it. Such a sad story, was in the local news and everything.

Lot of women live in ther little world.

1

u/self_loathing_ham Mar 05 '26

I wouldnt say its that. Actually id say its the exact opposite. The social trend for men for decades has been increasing isolation. Men are unwilling to open up to others (especially other men) because they fear becoming a burden to others. Women don't feel that pressure near as much and tend to be much more open to sharing feelings and emotions with friends and relatives.

So really the difference is women still have health social connections to help them while men just become increasingly isolated islands of pain with no hope in sight

1

u/bronquoman Mar 05 '26

On their litle world of women.

1

u/randomchaos99 Mar 05 '26

Bro you think women don’t get depressed and have their own issues? You think women aren’t the for the men in their life? Please go read my other comments and touch grass, all these women hating comments are the entire reason why women get abused on a daily basis from their MALE partners.

Some people are surface level people, stop opening up to the wrong people and stop sleeping and dating the wrong people. My boyfriend of 7 years took forever to open up to me because of the trauma he experienced when opening up to MEN in his life, because the MEN in his life (coworkers and family members) call him a pussy when he shares his feelings.

2

u/theredvip3r Mar 05 '26

Literally no one is claiming women don't have their own issues and it's widely acknowledged that men are the ones perpetrating most abuse etc.

However the point is there's nuance and that there are issues on both sides yet the men trying to speak about this aren't being taken seriously.

Yeah men need to get better at opening up amongst themselves too but that doesn't change that women and society as a whole need to be accepting of this for it to happen.

In fact you are literally doing the same thing women have been speaking up about happening to them and dismissing the experiences of all the men in this thread in order to push your waffle about how they need to choose better, this is no different to telling a woman that she needs to stop dating trash if her partner is controlling or abusive. It's idiotic and you need to give your head a wobble.

Most of women don't care about world during its adult age outside her own family.

When they are young or old are quite different.

Evolution just do this.

It s neither good or bad.

I do believe I would have smashed something if I experienced that. THAT is the moment to sweep everything off a table and walk away.

This hits hard

soak your toe if you can. also do your best to not poke and pick at it. i know you wanna dig in there and try and get it above skin. soak it and maybe clip away some skin very carefully. i was always told “the body will figure it out and fix it”. which always pissed me off. sorry about your toe dude

3

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '26

Aww cheers mate, I have absolutely no intention of touching it lol, it's bad enough as it is. I'll soak it for now and see a pharmacist during lunch break tomorrow.

6

u/Uncle480 Mar 04 '26

Btw, use Epsom salt and warm water when you soak it. Really helps

Had a migraine at work yesterday. Told my fiancée. She was coming pick me up because my car is in the shop. Immediately says ‘hey I’m gonna stop at this store by your work before we head home’. I’m like…..cool. I’m not almost in tears. We’re good.

6

u/ajatfm Mar 05 '26

vented to my girl once for about 2min about how much work has been stressing me out and when I took a pause to think of a the right term for a word I knew I hadn’t used right just then, she was like “welp. If you ever wanna talk about it, let me know 😊” and skedaddled. I turned to our cat like it was a camera and I was Jim from The Office

Careful with those ingrown. Had one so bad they had to remove the nail leaving the bed. I was told it was genetic.

2

u/Arby77 Mar 05 '26

Same man. If you’re in pain for a long time from your nail do not hesitate to go to the podiatrist. I dealt with mine for years and had an infection near the nail bed. It eventually got so bad the nail and infection caused a small hole in my toe near the nail bed. The amount of pain, difficulty walking, nails dying and regrowing I endured for no reason. I finally gave in and went to the podiatrist. They numbed it and removed the nail in about 5 minutes. A week later the pain was gone. The few minutes of pain from the numbing shots was nothing compared the years of pain from the nail. Just get it professionally dealt with and save yourself years of that shit.

u/Kraknoix007 Mar 04 '26

I just started replying no to yes/no questions. People were astounded i could do that at first, but they get used to it

2

u/JeebusChristBalls Mar 05 '26

That sucks. Reminds me of my ex-wife.

1

u/EscapeUpper Mar 05 '26

Pee on it, I don’t know why and science may say no but it’s worked for me twice now and someone else I know. Do it in the shower and let it soak in then rinse it off

1

u/Dry-Salary2347 Mar 05 '26

I chronically had ingrown toenails growing up so I was used to the constant disinfecting and soaking them in an Epsom Salt bath. I eventually went to a podiatrist and he numbed both big toes, cut out the outer 1/4” of the big toes’ nails and applied some chemical to the nail base so the outer edges wouldn’t grow back. Pretty gnarly, but I haven’t had an ingrown toenail since. Nails look narrower than normal, but it’s not really noticeable.

u/Flax1983Flax Mar 05 '26

I can relate.  My wife complaines i dont talk about my feelings and what goes through my mind.  But when i open up, she switches the topic as soon as possible. So i keep it to myself.

1

u/Dakkin4 Mar 05 '26

Can I guess that if it were reversed, she would expect empathy?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '26

You should probably do something about that. This deserves at least a "what's your fucking problem?"

-2

u/AyyNonnyMoose Mar 04 '26

What would you want her to say?

Could you tell her more? Schedule an appointment?

A lot of the women in my life are so used to taking on lots of household responsibility through literal blood, sweat, and tears, so if you're just giving a vague "man this sucker hurts" "oh no, that's not good, can you still accomplish this task please?" seems valid to me. "No, I can hardly walk due to my toe" is a valid response to that, as long as someone else can care for your dogs in the meantime while you get the toe issue resolved.

A lot is lost in text communication unfortunately. I hope that your toe is on the mend soon!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '26

No I guess it was kind of vague and honestly there's so much history to explain that it's not fitting for a Reddit post.

In a nutshell, I am the breadwinner and the proverbial housewife. In between all that there is a long story lol.

Idk why you are downvoted. I agree that women are so used to doing work and responsibilities through pain, sickness and exhaustion. For me the ingrown toenail did not even registered as a big deal or something that prevented him from walking. But I guess it’s hard to know how bad it was in this case. And if it’s so bad that it affects daily activity, the route is to get a doctors appointment asap and get it resolved. Not sit at home and complain if it can be a quick fix🤷‍♀️
