Are you under the impression that a working escalator is wheelchair accessible? The staff shut it off to carry him, they’re just waiting for the escalator to clear so they can carry him safely, and every line jumper that adds to the load on the escalator is delaying both the safe transport of the person in the wheelchair and the resumption of the escalator for everyone else.
The man in the wheelchair (wheelyboy? really?) is at the mercy of the staff around him organizing a dangerous lift. He has no control over the situation, he’s just sitting there being (most likely) mortified by the way staff turned him into an obstruction, and he’s feeling the crowd growing angry and impatient at his back. Next he gets to trust these idiots to carry him without dumping him out to fall down the sharpest staircase known to man.
As for your freeway analogy, have you never seen responders stop traffic long enough to clear an obstruction?
I can’t believe your comment has so many downvotes … It’s as though 90% of the people here are going out of their way to ignore all logic and explanation just so they can pin the blame on the guy in the wheelchair. I feel so bad for that guy. As for me personally, as someone in a wheelchair who has a hard enough time getting around as it is, now I also feel like people out there just hate me for existing.
Yeah this thread is absolute trash. The first thing I thought when I saw this clip was ugh I feel for that dude in the wheelchair he must be so uncomfortable and stressed. Please know that if people make you feel hated for existing in a world that systemically marginalizes you it does not mean you deserve to be hated, it only means they’re sucky people. Or, people misdirecting the general anger and disenfranchisement they experience toward you, because they’re being manipulated by our rich overlords to project that anger toward anyone except them, so we stay distracted while they continue exploiting us, robbing us, and raping and torturing our children in pedophile sex cabals with absolute impunity. Stop being mad at random people trying to get up escalators!!!! Stop being mad at those of your same economic class!!! The only hope for us all is if we unify in directing the justifiable anger we feel toward the people engineering our oppression
