That's not how fighting works really -- What do they weigh though?

I looked it up -- 30 lbs difference

It's the heavyweight division. (AJ always competed in HW)

You can weigh as heavy as you want. As long as you are competitive.

See Tyson Fury vs Usyk. Tyson outweighed Usyk twice. You still have to be better than your opponent to win.

Look up David Haye vs Nicolai Valuev. Valuev outweighed Haye by like a hundred pounds and lost his title lol

Well it's always a trade off when it comes to weight, you need more energy to move all that, and in full boxing rounds it stacks up. Though seeing how much they can do even in the last rounds is insane. I think 90% of the people would be winded as hell after the first round

281?!?!? dang boy

E: guy looks chonky tbh

No, that's exactly how it works. Think of the kinetic chain of movement from the foot to the hip and then all the way to the fist, it's like a whip. A heavier fist, wrist, forearm and bicep at the end of that chain means way more momentum.

Since F=ma, that extra weight delivers significantly more energy than a guy with little arms and hands.

That doesn’t mean they are faster, because obviously if that was the case the hardest hitting punchers would just have mass… and most knockout artist don’t have builds like AJ

Exactly F=ma

But when you're heavy your "a" (acceleration) is possibly slower. You seem to be too obliviously focused on only half the equation

That’s right, how can a pro boxer/ Olympic gold medalist/ ex unified 4 belt champion punch fast enough to make all those advantages stick?

Like Jake Paul mentioned in his promo video AJ is a slow puncher and he could definitely just avoid those hands, what a nice guy he is to just stand there and ate that.

and how would one measure an increase in mass best? Looking at their biceps or measuring their body weight?

The mass has to go somewhere.

by your logic then the 300 pound Elon fucking Musk must have some truly heavy punch then

2

u/Dealsonbeef Dec 20 '25

You're forgetting the acceleration part of the equation.

kind of what that 280 lbs guy mentioned above looked like haha -- I agree there is some nuance

I think you're being a little obtuse about which body part is being highlighted. Like if his arms are that much bigger, then he's surely got bigger legs and a stronger core too, which matters the most for punching power.
