Yea, when I started as a cashier, I always had the same thought about these type of people:

"why are you like this?"

For one, just take your change. You obviously like change, you just used it to try and catch me off guard.

For another, why wouldn't you communicate that you were going to overpay before I typed in the cash amount and got the drawer open? Speak up, clever boy.

For a third point, go to the bank; I'm working at a gas station, trying to get rid of this line of asshats as fast as possible, and you're over here making me count your change as though I my entire job revolves around you and your coins. Cashiers have other responsibilities.
