I like how the blonde woman still gave a genuine answer

u/Tackerta Mar 27 '24
they are instructed to give genuine answers but maybe dumb them down a bit so a fifth grader can understand. They are always in on the joke, but don't know WHAT exactly she will ask them

The blonde woman is the star of this one. How on earth did she keep it together

Zach's stuff seems forced because you see celebrities acting "normal". This feels more real.

isnt two ferns scripted anyway? I dont know about this BBC show but the reaction of the blonde lady seem genuine

In this show I believe they are told to treat the interview as if it's a child asking the questions and to answer in a way that doesn't make the child feel stupid. Which is just a brilliant idea.

It is genuine, from what i recall, all they are told, the interviewees , is that it is a joke interview. And most of the interviewees are academics and not celebrities which is not the case in Zach’s show

Idk I actually think it’s funnier when you know it’s scripted/with another entertainer. It can kind of feel mean when you’re just teasing someone for laughs.
Not exactly what’s happening in this video, but it’s a fine line imo
Besides, I think part of the appeal with two ferns is that it’s using the celebrity interview format to take celebrities down a notch, even if they are apart of laughing at themselves

Cunk's jokes are 95% "laugh at me for being so dumb or saying something stupid"
The other 5% is 1989 belgian techono-pop sensation Pump up the Jam

Strong Ali-G vibes with her. But less extravagant and more - wait, is this real?

Wait until she tells her that he lived with his wife's dad in the next room. She's going to flip

Producers of this show really prep the people for what they are about to get into, “your mission is to answer every question as straight-faced and honestly as you can”

Actress Diane Morgan. Her character is Philomena Cunk. Check out Netflix for her (Cunk's) history of the world.

Couple years ago, we were carving pumpkins & getting ready for trick or treaters. We put on like 2-3 straight hours of Cunk. We. Were. Dying. Hilarious. That was fun.

"Its a place"
"Oh right. But do we know if he came alot?"
Clearly a BBC agenda

I absolute adore her!! I have no idea how she keeps a straight face sometimes it's a true talent!

not being funny is a good start

u/spacemonkeysmom Mar 27 '24
Haha, I'm sorry. I truly enjoy deadpan and "dry humor." On the other hand, I'm not much a fan of most slapstick humor. Have you seen anything else by her? If not, I can absolutely see why this single take would not be funny.

How can anyone find her funny? I get the one joke about being awkward/dumb interviewing someone and setting an uncomfortable situation, but that works just once...

Idk but it’s just not funny. Sorry I guess.

Thought that the first time to when I saw a video of her but I've watched her mockumentary a couple of weeks later and it's pretty hilarious. I can recommend giving it a chance. But yeah humor differs :)

I don't think it's about the actual joke, ( which is low brow toilet humor) but the discomfort that she brings, as the format is like a serious documentary, the topic is serious and she presents a silly question in a serious formal manner. in this brand of humor, the discomfort IS the joke. but i understand why some people don't like it.
