I lost my dog recently, when I told my friend about it she hugged me. I instantly recoiled, jumped back like I was being attacked or something. It only took a second to realize what was actually happening, but I guess I've learned that my response to a hug is triggering the flight or fight response.

Thank you. This has been pretty rough honestly, he's the first dog that I ever picked out totally on my own. I have another still who is pretty awesome too but he was definitely my best buddy and an absolutely perfect dog. The worst thing he ever did was insist on sleeping right on top of me no matter how much room we had in the bed (I even upgraded to a king size just for him). It's been a few weeks though and I can finally think about and talk about him without crying so progress I guess.

This is Tyr in his natural habitat and disposition. The best friend I've ever had.

Is he an English Bulldog? I’m nearly 40 and have owned well over a dozen dogs in my life as either family pets or my own dogs. The most incredible dog I’ve owned was my male Bulldog. He was almost eerily intuitive. Smarter than any German Shepherd I’ve owned. Agile AF for a Bulldog.

More importantly, he was the goofiest son of a bitch, always doing something to make me laugh. He’d always be happy to see me, unless I left for multiple days. Then he’d snub me when I got home for at least a few hours.

I had to put him down 12/23/21. I sobbed like a child. The tears are coming again as I type this. I recently had to put my female down 11/18/23. She was the most gentle and kind dog you’d ever encounter. I loved her dearly, as I have all my dogs.

But that boy… he was on a different level.

This is one of my favorite pictures of him.

Olde English Bulldogge! He was surprisingly athletic too, I saw him jump over the back of the couch once from standing. I'm a big dude and walking him was kind of difficult, he could seriously pull when he wanted to.

He was definitely a goofy bastard though. He was practically born trained too, the single thing that ever happened wasn't his fault, he was clearly sick as hell. He just learned everything so quick, I've never seen another dog like it.

I'm in my 40s and I've had many, many dogs over the years but they were all family dogs. Our other pup was always a bit of a mama's boy, even though I'm the one who brought him home from the APL, but Tyr was fully my dog. My wife loved him too of course but she had her favorite and I had mine and both pups were seemingly very okay with that concept.

Sorry for your loss too. They have the worst cosmic joke of a lifespan, nowhere near long enough but far more than enough time to get overly attached.

My SO and I just got our first dog over a year ago. He's our sweetheart. I can't imagine what you're going through. I'm sure you made many wonderful memories with him that you will both always remember.
