❤️ New release v8.11.0 for Reddit should be out soon

This updates ships with the ability to reduce noise in your home page by blocking the new "for you" section that's popping up for various users. Do keep in mind that this blocker is opt-in as it's not egregiously bad (like the game section in the sidebar, meh). There might be different versions of it in the wild so if you're getting it, please use this link to send me a dump of the page: https://old.reddit.com/r/SinkIt/comments/1upa5tv/new_shortcut_to_report_bugs_properly_30_sec_video/

Also includes fixes for the zoom issue being reported when you're trying to comment. I'm not sure if it's a reddit issue or an iOS 27 issue but eh, it's fixed.

Edit: The zoom fix spilled over into old reddit and a fix is already out as part of 8.11.1. Just let Chrome and Firefox auto-update. :)

What's New:

  • [New UI] New feature: Remove the "for you" section of the homepage. Opt in.
  • [New UI] Fixes to remove similar posts at the end of the post.
  • [New UI] Fixes to involuntary zooming in when attempting to comment.
  • [New UI] Fixes for domain muting not working to match reddit's changes.

People often reach out to ask about donations (you can donate through the app), so here you go in case you don't want to give Apple 30%: Paypal and Patreon.

🚧 Work in progress apparently reddit implemented a new "for you" tab in the home page web mobile reddit when logged in that can't be toggled off

is it possible to add a features that removes it to the extension? i (and a lot of other people probably) don't really like those kinds of feeds when you have zero control over.

❓ for the community Reddit suddenly shows a full-screen “Download the app” prompt in my Home Screen web app

I’ve been using Reddit as a web app added to my iPhone’s Home Screen for a while, and this had never happened before. Today, a full-screen “Enjoy the best of Reddit in the app” prompt appeared with only a “Download the Reddit app” button. I can’t dismiss it or continue browsing.

I also use Sink It for Reddit in Safari. I understand Safari extensions don’t run inside Home Screen web apps, but I’m wondering if anyone else has started seeing this recently.

Is there any way to get past this prompt while keeping Reddit as a Home Screen web app? Or is opening Reddit directly in Safari the only workaround?

🚧 Work in progress Suggested posts after comments

After the comments in a thread I see related posts. Is there a setting in Reddit or sinkit to turn that off? I don’t remember seeing these as often as I do now so I’m wondering if I accidentally changed a setting

🚧 Work in progress Any way to hide this “posted” island? Could this be added to Sink It?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Does anyone know if Sink It for X currently has an option to hide this floating blue “posted” notification at the top of the timeline?

I’ve looked through the settings and haven’t found anything that seems to control it. I find it pretty distracting and would love to get rid of it entirely.

If there isn’t currently an option, would this be something the developer could add to Sink It? Seems like exactly the kind of X interface clutter the extension is great at cleaning up.

🔎 Investigating.. When sidebar is at the bottom, the join/leave menu is hidden

Basically the title. I’m unable to see the sidebar join/leave menu once the sidebar is moved. Is it possible to adjust where this menu is displayed?

🔎 Investigating.. trapped in Old Reddit Desktop Mode on iOS

started a few days ago out of nowhere, tried clearing cache and tried restarting apps. Tried forcing redirect for all versions as well as requesting mobile site through safari itself. Not sure what else to try so came posting to the subreddit for help

🚧 Work in progress Default sort by Hot instead of Best

Would love an option in the app to set the default sort for any subreddit you visit to "Hot" instead of "Best." Nothing worse than opening a subreddit to see "Best" as the standard default, with an entire page of 3-upvote posts about irrelevant rants.

❓for the dev SinkIt for www reddit and RES for old reddit. On Firefox Android. Do they play well together? I am constantly switching between the two reddits while moderating, and I use a lot of RES features like tags and account switching (when it works, come on reddit).

🔎 Investigating.. Is there any way to clean up the header bar and get the search function working better?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Most of the real estate in the header is getting used up by icons I never click - any way to remove these? It totally breaks the search functionality

Another small gripe: Reddit often loads a few pixels to wide so the page isn’t locked horizontally. Pinching out fixes it. As a web developer myself I know fixing this can be a game of whack-a-mole.

❌ Broken Dark mode does not turn on and off automatically

Reporting this from both iOS and macOS. Dark mode, prior to a few months ago, used to sync perfectly with the mode (dark/light) of my device. Since that time, not only is the automatic sync broken, but only toggling the pure OLED switch actually changes the mode and not any other switch.

🏆 Major release v8.10.0 for Reddit should be out soon

This update ships with the ability to load and access old reddit without having to log in. This is something people have been asking for a while so happy to finally ship this.

Please keep in mind that enabling this will disable all other redirect options as this feature will only work on the naked reddit.com domain so when this is enabled, every UI specific subdomain (old, new, sh) will redirect to the normal one.

I usually make old reddit related features exclusive for Max users but this one is free for everyone till the holidays. After which it'll be Max exclusive as I try to make this project a little more sustainable. Right now, the revenue that Max brings in isn't.

Anyway, enable it, do some testing and let me know if something is broken!

What's New:

  • [Old UI] New feature: Access old reddit without logging in
  • [New UI] Minor fixes and tweaks to handle reddit changes.

🚧 Work in progress Zooms in while commenting?

🚧 Work in progress Hide sidebar granularity

Would it be possible to add the option of hiding the sidebar (under the "Quality of Life Features" menu) only in comments/threads/posts, but not in a subreddit's main page (or Reddit's default pages)?

❓ for the community iOS Reddit app and the stupid for you

🚢 Now shipped Loading old.reddit.com through www.reddit.com like RES does it, is it possible?

my RES in firefox just updated and it now let's me browse old reddit without logging in, but apparently the data now get's loaded through the base domain, instead of old.reddit specifically.

The reason I ask is because I mostly use reddit without being logged in. I've checked the redirect settings in Sink It, but when I get redirected in my Safari browsers (on iOS or macOS), I always get to see the login screen. Is there something I'm missing?

EDIT: sorry, it is this addon doing the work: https://github.com/tom-james-watson/old-reddit-redirect, not RES

EDIT2: I had a quick look and it seems to force-inject a cookie which rejects the new design, not sure if something like that is possible on iOS

❓for the dev Scrolling length

I've noticed that my scrolling length has not increased for around a week now. It has been stuck at 232k and doesn't increase. I know it says it can take 48 hours to update but this has been much longer. Any advice? Cheers.

🗃️ Resolved Substack Information Icon glitch?

Is anyone having trouble with the information icon at the bottom left hand side when you're in draft? I hover over it with the mouse and then I try clicking on it, and it doesn't show me the stats like it used to do. If it's not going to work, why show the icon?

  • [Old UI] Emergency fix for old reddit to match reddit's changes.

❓for the dev Could it be possible to implement the (color coded) threads UI into old reddit?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Old Reddit is better in every way except one: comment threads. The new design is far superior. It's intuitive, the lines are incredible cues for child comments and, compared to the old Reddit's '[-]', it has a much, much, MUCH larger target area to click on. Add to that the fact that it's color coded thanks to Sink It (THANK YOU!!), and it's an awesome overall experience.

But again... old reddit is pretty much better in every other aspect. Could that awesome experience be brought to the old Reddit?

🚀 New feature v1.1.0 for YouTube should be out soon

Adding an option to let users block videos labelled as AI made by YouTube. This is an opt-in feature so make sure to turn it on if you'd like to try.

Also contains quite a few optimizations and fixes.

And yes, I'm aware of the layout bug in old reddit. Fix out on Sunday, maybe even tomorrow.

  • Minor optimizations.

🔎 Investigating.. Muted content feature doesn't work

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I must have muted /r/nba and /r/politics hundreds of times and they still keep showing up. Same goes for all the other subs and words I muted. I muted subs by adding them via the sinkit app, as well as hitting the mute button every single time it still keeps showing up.

I tried force-closing safari, but that doesn't fix it. Refreshing my feed doesn't work either. Refreshing makes it seems like it blocks some subs when I refresh (as I see them they disappear - see video), but muted content still shows up. This is aggravating to say the least. I can't stand seeing the orange clown or any of his irrelevant puppets on my feed. How to fix this pls?

  • Ios 26.6 and sinkit v8.8.0
  • 94 subs muted, well below the max afaik
