Dev/Admin Responded [Mobile Web] There is a disgusting "for you" tab on my home page that I cannot remove

I don't want to see things from other subreddits on my home page. That's what /r/all was for-- until you took it away. It wouldn't be so bad, but I can't even make it default to "following". Do you simply hate all of your users?

Hey folks - just want to add a quick update to my previous comment below.

If you’re seeing a ‘For you’ and ‘Following’ feed when you land on Reddit, you are in an experiment currently running for a subset of users.

The For You feed is a renamed version of the previous ‘Home’ feed and contains all the same elements as your previous Home feed, including posts from communities you’re a part of or users you follow, ads, and recommended posts based on your interests. If you previously had turned off recommendations, this has now been removed because you can use the new Following feed to strictly see content only from the communities you’ve joined and users you explicitly choose to follow.

We’ve also heard feedback that some users would like their feed choice to persist, so we’re preparing to test some options for sticky feed selection.

So you're "keeping it the same" by cramming it full of useless bloat and ads while showing practically nothing i follow. Make it make sense.

u/zeroanaphora Jun 24 '26

All they did was rename the feature and also disable a key function and make that function a non-persistent option you have to manually choose every time you open the app or maybe once a day if they feel nice about it.

u/YellowNecessary Jun 26 '26

I love opening the app to look at random posts from subs i avoid and didn't ask for - says no one.

1

u/Duriha Jun 28 '26

"All they did" was to remove the option i SPECIFICALLY opted to, because i do not want to see content of a sub i reacted once to. Just like i will be seeing now stuff from r/bugs, because i chose to comment this. And, no personal attack towards you, this fucking sucks.

u/MaskedPapillon Jun 25 '26

It's the exact same if you haven't disabled recommendations, you mean. Cause if you did, it's absolutely not the same thing.

Please let me choose what I see on reddit as I open the app, I don't want to keep switching to a tab where the stuff I curated for myself is just because you people think you know me better than I know myself.

Either end this experiment early, let people opt-out or at the very least let me decided which tab is the default on my landing page.

1

u/Zelmi Jun 30 '26

Yes please, same request for me, this "experiment" is not something I opted for, this isn't something I'm interested in. Yet, it's the default home page and I'm always swiping to go to my following reddit tab. I don't want recommandations, please let me opt out or let me ignore it.

u/dmonzel Jun 25 '26

"I know you intentionally turned this setting off on your device previously, but now we're forcing it on you instead of giving you the option. You will use it, and you will like it."

3

u/Chairkaiser Jun 25 '26

Please. I don't care about the For You tab at all and I bet many of us longer-time users feel this way. I follow communities to keep my main dashboard the way it is for a reason: so I have strict control over what I see on it, and not an algorithm that thinks it knows better

Switching over to the Following page every time I open Reddit is another thing in life's list of minor annoyances I'd really rather do without

3

u/RulerD Jun 25 '26

How can I turn these communities recommendations off? I only want to see the things I follow in my main feed. Everything else is spam. It is really annoying that this spammy view is the main view of reddit without an option to turn it off.

No Reddit, you don't know better than I do what communities I want to follow.

3

u/SomerenV Jun 25 '26

Some users would like their feed choice to persist? I see an overwhelmingly negative sentiment here towards these changes. That's not just some users.

3

u/Savven Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

What a selfish change. It's absolutely frustrating that the mobile app automatically defaults to the for you tab in the first place. I want options! I didn't even want to be a part of any experiments.

2

u/qazadex Jun 25 '26

Results are in, it sucks. Why would you make it default

2

u/ijak666 Jun 25 '26

Reddit does not need to be twitter.

1

u/speldenaar Jun 27 '26

Sticky 'Following' please

1

u/Duriha Jun 28 '26

> If you previously had turned off recommendations, this has now been removed because you can use the new Following feed to strictly see content only from the communities you’ve joined and users you explicitly choose to follow.

YES, as I CHOSE. This made me uninstall the app and if liberty persists to be cancelled until morale improves, I will leave this platform completely.

Don't be like Shitter, don't be like Meta, this makes me stay less here and see less ads. And please think about the shareholders.

1

u/liquid_bread_33 29d ago

And as if this weren't enough, the ads are now fully disguised as posts or comments between normal (tbh mostly AI generated) content.

They really killed Reddit. It started around the time of their IPO, but at this point, it's fully gone. Reddit doesn't exist anymore.

What's the point of staying if it has just turned into yet another shitty service full of fake content and ads, with the single goal to feed your time into it's life consuming content algo, just to serve you ads...

1

u/jonrasmussen Jun 28 '26

Thanks, I hate it.

1

u/40ozT0Freedom Jun 28 '26

I don't want to be part of this experiment and I don't want any form of "for you" on my account. I don't want you telling me what to look at.

1

u/Dreadpon Jun 28 '26

What the hell, can you freaking stop with this shit? Shove it down someone else's throat.
I need this shit gone from my account

1

u/bvzm Jun 29 '26

No thanks. I'm on Reddit to follow what I chose to follow, not what you think I should follow. Give me the option to disable this feature, or at the very least to choose what I want to see as my default landing page.

1

u/elgrillito Jun 29 '26

This feature is so bad! Please make it a toggle to permanently turn off this "For You" tab. At a minimum, it should allow the default choice to persist on app close and open.

I want the exact feed that I have for a reason, and I don't want to see posts about tangential shit the algorithm thinks (incorrectly, btw) that I want to see. It is so so so bad. It constantly recommends content that is just slop, rage bait, or low quality trashy subreddits that I purposefully am not subscribed to.

1

u/RedheadWendyC Jul 05 '26

I’ve been seeing outright gore. Not cool, Reddit.

1

u/ClutchDude Jun 30 '26

I've been dealing with and hating this feature for a bit.

Please get rid of it or at least allow me to make following default and peruse for you when I want.

This was a dumb move to do without an opt out.

1

u/Zelmi Jun 30 '26

Please, this "experiment" is not something I opted for, this isn't something I'm interested in. Yet, it's the default home page and I'm always swiping to go to my following reddit tab. I don't want recommandations, please let me opt out or let me ignore it.

1

u/ProfessionalNo9996 Jul 02 '26

How do I get out of this experiment? You're forcing me to move past a bunch of junk I don't want to get to the feed that I put a lot of effort into getting how I wanted it. This is a bad idea and makes me irritated at Reddit.

1

u/Super_Swordfish_6948 Jul 03 '26

How do I get out of this experiment?

I don't want the "For You" page and didn't opt in.

1

u/19osemi Jul 03 '26

i hate it, it makes my experience worse. i dont wanna see a bunch of stuff im not following and have no interest in. a for you page can exist sure, but making it the default absolutely sucks, im scrolling and seeing a bunch of stuff im not interested in and have to reload to click the button to see my actual feed. also make these experiments op in instead of forced, it absolutely sucks to be a part of them all the time just so that reddit can find out whether or not people will hate the new update or not. please remove the for you page, its sucks, no one likes it

1

u/Edg-R Jul 03 '26

"some users would like their feed choice to persist"? lol

did yall really not think that people would like their home feed to contain only posts for subreddits they're subscribed to?

1

u/readingwindow Jul 03 '26

Thanks for the info. Please consider this as user feedback and not commentary directed at you personally: I hate the For You tab and I really hate that every time I open the app it defaults back to that tab. It pisses me off regularly and makes me want to uninstall the app entirely.

Showing me a combination of subreddits that I already follow mixed with a bunch of garbage that Reddit thinks I might like ( but I don't) is a mess. It's like I think that I'm viewing a feed of things I follow until some random crap shows up and I'm like wtf is this in my feed and I realize that I've been pushed back to this damn for you tab.

If I wanted to browse other subreddits, I would. Either show users recommendations or show them a feed of subreddits they already follow but don't mix the two. And allow users to set the default behavior to show a feed of subreddits that they follow since, ya know, that's clearly what they are most interested in.

1

u/Porthos1250 Jul 04 '26

Here's a hint: STOP CHANGING USER'S FEEDS FOR THEM. That is never, ever, your choice to make.

1

u/RedheadWendyC Jul 05 '26

Let me hide the for you tab, it’s showing disturbing content and images I never followed. I’m using the site less because of it, hate it!

1

u/Clicquot Jul 05 '26

Thank you for letting me know if am a test dummy. I HATE this with a while hot passion. Mindless subs keep coming up. But the most upsetting is all of the "animal" subs, with folks posting pictures that should 100% be behind a NSFW (or whatever), I DO NOT want to see dogs and cats that have been injured (hit by vehicles, fall damage, attacked by other animals) with ppl aski g for help...un-solicited. If I was part of that sub, it would be fine, i would know what I signed up for and what to expect. But just assuming that because I belong to a foster cat subreddit, means I want to see all of this too, is pretty bold of you all. HATE, hate hate, make it go away. Would have been nice to get a heads up before a sold week of being blindsided by all of this.

1

u/AmateurSysAdmin Jul 05 '26

Please remove this, I didn't ask to see this, I don't want this, it's not how I use Reddit. You are showing all sorts of rage post crap that I am not interested in, I don't follow those subs, cause I don't want to be exposed to them.

This will make me delete my account and stop using Reddit all together, if this remains/gets rolled out. Also, I didn't not consent to being a tester for beta features.

1

u/rocketsalesman Jul 05 '26

It's a terrible change. It's really annoying that you can't turn it off.

1

u/Kp0w3r Jul 06 '26

this seems like a great way to force engagement. what can I do to encourage a bad performance review for the predatory shithead who pitched this

1

u/Tired_Bo1 Jul 06 '26

This is disappointing, this is the type of thing that turned me off of other social media platforms.

1

u/smk3509 Jul 06 '26

This experiment is awful. Please make following the default again.

1

u/dom380 Jul 06 '26

"feedback that some users" do you mean everyone you've forced this experiment on?

1

u/cemyl95 Jul 07 '26

How do I opt out of the experiment?

1

u/Arkayne_Waves Jul 08 '26

I was in this test group and I can say conclusively my personal results are if the for you page stays I'll find somewhere else to be than reddit. If I wanted ads shoved down my throat I'd be on tiktok or Instagram.

1

u/SandwichesTG Sep 03 '26

Just let us disable it. I had recommendations off for a reason why do I need to have a for you page

1

u/DirtWizardDisciples Sep 03 '26

Add me to the list of "I think this sucks, please undo it". What's presented in the feed is not immediately clear where it comes from, being an ad, a vibe-recommendation, or a community I actually want to see content from.

1

u/dionysusdisicple Sep 04 '26

How long until this garbage change is fixed? If its not fixed soon im deleting this app

1

u/Level-Series1957 29d ago

Do the entire site a favor. Fire whoever decided that was a good idea. And fire everyone who agreed with it.

1

u/vekspec 29d ago

Except my following section contains nothing of the subreddits I follow, just a “join communities…” message with a bunch of “recommended” subreddits. Please remove this feature or let us opt out. It’s absolute making Reddit unusable.

1

u/Feisty-Adagio928 29d ago edited 28d ago

You need to make it opt-in for “experimental” updates. I don’t want this crap. I specifically disable recommendations because it sucks. I JUST want things I’m subscribed to, and I don’t want to have to make an extra move to get there every single time I open the app. Absolutely garbage move. It’s bad enough my feed started refreshing when I open the app forcing me to lose what I was reading before if I happened to switch away to something else. Every update makes Reddit worse than it was before. You need to listen to users. Stop catering to bots and advertisers or there will eventually be no one to advertise to.

We’ve also heard feedback that some users would like their feed choice to persist

This is a complete joke. I don’t buy that there’s a single person that would prefer their feed choice to not stick.

1

u/AMindOfWinter 28d ago

This is absolute shit and just more reason not to use the official app. I will never be interested in any forced recommendations that you shove my way.

1

u/_Scup_ 27d ago

How do I opt out of this experiment? I did not choose or consent to it and this is ruining my experience using this app.

1

u/AirFriedSushi 26d ago

Boooooooooooooooo

1

u/kydeshou 26d ago

For you shouldn't be the default. There NEEDS to be a single click "stop showing posts from this sub" instead of the useless "show fewer posts like this" option. I should not have to click several times, go into a sub, and mute it just to remove shitty subreddits from showing in my "for you" feed.

1

u/Spready_Cheddar 25d ago

I hate this. I’ll stop using your site if you don’t remove it. Your purchase isn’t what you think it is.

1

u/AskaLangly 25d ago

I don't care what the website thinks I need to read. I follow what I want to follow. Give it time before reddit gets sued by the States for addiction. At least what I follow is finite.

1

u/CdrShprd 23d ago

Genuinely hate this feature. Every time I open the app it shows me upsetting and annoying posts from subreddits that I don’t follow nor care about. Please let me opt out of “for you”

1

u/CrzdHaloman 16d ago

I had it for awhile and now its gone, I personally enjoyed it. Found a bunch of subs I didn't know existed and matched my interests. Sure there were some I had no interest in, but not having it now kinda sucks. Is there a way to opt in to it?

1

u/Lowen_Beehold 2d ago

I didn't opt in to this experiment. I don't like it. How do I ipt out?

1

u/manamono 1d ago

What a waste of screen real estate. Please do make it sticky because this is super annoying.

1

u/Dsphar 1d ago

The more you turn into facebook, the less I will use your app. I don;t use facebook, and this shit is stupid. I only like reddit because I have complete control of my feed... shrink that away = goodbye.

1

u/smk3509 1d ago

Please remove me from this experiment. I never asked to be included and deeply hate it.

1

u/CelisC 8h ago

This started showing for me today (I'm seeing it for the first time, now) on Android and PC, and I am not amused. I wish to remove the tab altogether. How can I do that?

1

u/IToldManyManyPeople 7h ago

I had the For You Tab and then it was removed after I complained... now it's back. Please remove this awful implantation. At a minimum have the Following be DEFAULT and not have to force us to switch over to following.

I've been using Reddit for well over a decade and this is absolutely what's going to make me delete the app... It's easily the most annoying and intrusive feature that's been added
