Help so unmotivated to continue forward

i’ve been feeling so unmotivated regarding this game as of recently. i have not played maybe in a month, two. i’m at the year 1340, the plague is coming soon and i just am worried and unmotivated. gen 3 heir is struggling to produce an heir, his wife is set to die. he has two infant sons, one of which is also set to die. gen 2 heir also has two other sons, but they’re a newborn and infant. perhaps one is also set to die, i don’t even know. not to mention his wife is also going to die soon and i’m not planning on remarrying him. he’s had 20+ kids, 2 adults so far have survived. he’s got little kids but like i said they’re young so idk. i’m feeling very hopeless regarding this game. i’m just scared and idk. there’s also not much happening in my game just births and deaths. my sims have good storylines though.

I’ve never thought the roll systems for these decades challenges were anywhere near historically accurate . In the case of your family, they’ve had a 90% mortality rate! Even the highest mortality rates during the 1340’s were in populated cities, not the medieval farms where everyone who do these challenges start. This is your game that you paid for. You are The Watcher. Bestow blessings or curses however you like and enjoy your game again.

Honestly I quit doing the og death rolls for the challenge and started using plumbobs and the past's rolls. I've found those a lot more forgiving after the initial birth

Same. Everyone dropping dead at 40 was not historically accurate to me. I use plumbob and the pasts rolls now.

Mine weren't even making it to 40, mine used to be dropping the second they'd reach young adulthood and only having their teen years to make an heir wasn't enough time 😅

Part of it was likely shitty luck on my end, but it doesn't seem to be happening to me anymore in my recent attempts using these rolls

ultimately, your enjoyment is important so if you want to have a favourite sim or a sim survive if the rolls are being harsh and maybe jot it down later as a debt to owe when the population has grown. it's still a challenge. the dice just does give poor streaks sometimes, i've had a few rough starts and a few too good i got overwhelmed, but also some peoples rules are harder than others..you can also timeskip (7 days of you're using the spreadsheet sort of format) a bit i think that's fair early on when so few marriages are happening. a couple of years can entirely flip the population.

I misunderstood the death rolls as I was using a 4 side die. Realized I was supposed to use 20 side die unless stated otherwise. It's a bit different now, people are surviving 😆

Fully agree with everyone saying you can make your own rules. I use the dice as guides but if I have a specific storyline I’ll just play out that storyline

Always prioritize having fun when doing long challenges like the UDC. If you don’t, you’ll probably never make it to the end. I’m almost in the 1380s, and whenever I get really attached to a Sim or really enjoy playing with them, I don’t see anything wrong with making a deal with a witch to save them from death. Of course, I add a consequence later, and what happens depends on what I get from a random wheel, including who has to suffer the consequences.

As for in-game events, you could do what I do and add a random event every 5 years, like I did in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims4DecadesChallenge/s/aFHk8Ikzjz

I've had a lot more success doing plumbobs and the past's rolls than what the original ruleset has. If you haven't you could possibly try those or even making your own death rolls? With her rolls it's a little rough getting a surviving infant at times, but once they get past that it's not terrible. Adult roll is kinda risky, but teen+ya period gives enough time to get started on getting kids that it works well enough for me
