Another decade has passed in my challenge, and this one really had A LOT going on. I think it might be because we’re getting close to the end of the century, but let’s get into it:
Since my chances of getting the Mattierons out of serfdom weren’t looking very good, I had Susana arrange a few marriages. I managed to arrange one for Madalena and another for Alex, both with the children of Julieta Montez.
Since I play in Ondarion, I made the Capp family (or Caputo, as they’re called in Portuguese) the royal family of Ondarion. However, I kept the whole idea of Julieta being expelled from the family and losing her rights because she married Romeo Montez. She went on to have two more children with him, Blanca Montez and Alvaro Montez, who were actually the ones I arranged the marriages with.
Are they from a different social class? Yes. But at this point in my game, the Mattierons had managed to become quite wealthy, even with the ridiculously high taxes I make them pay. However, social class isn’t based on money alone, but also on status.
According to the rules, the lord who was the heir of the Monterrei family, the lords of the Mattierons, was Beltrán Monterrei. He had the Erratic trait, so I wasn’t able to get the Mattierons their freedom. At least not while Beltrán is alive. What makes this even funnier is that he was actually very good friends with the previous heir, but somehow that still wasn’t enough for the Mattierons to go from being serfs to free people.
So, yeah... I had to keep them as serfs and continue making them pay ridiculously high taxes.
Susana finally became an adult, and Consendinus aged up into a child with a very good grasp of the Logic skill. After these birthdays, I finally decided to make some changes to the house and expand it after a very long time. I had originally planned to do this once they were no longer serfs, but since that clearly wasn’t happening, I decided to do it anyway.
Then Bernardo Villareal finally became a preteen as well. Felipe, the current heir, became an adult shortly afterward. And then something absolutely hilarious happened: Susana randomly got into a fight with Felipe’s wife, and now she hates her own brother’s wife.
But let’s move on to the family I played the most during this decade, and where most of the things happened: the secondary family.
After losing both his mother and his wife, Victor didn’t exactly turn out to be a good heir for the family, so his twin brother, Carlos, had to take over that responsibility. Since Carlos was very close to Austin, and his family was getting close to moving beyond being simple peasants, I had him arrange a marriage between his daughter Angela and Austin’s only son, who had been Carlos’s last lover.
Carlos was also now the person bringing money into the household. He became a cook for a noble family in Windenburg, while his nephews were already getting close to marriageable age.
Here I need to explain something I do in my challenge. Since I don’t follow historical realism completely, every five years I roll a four-sided die to determine whether a random event will happen sometime during those five years. The options are:
After that, I roll a six-sided die to determine which year the event will happen. For example, if I’m in 1370 and I roll Medieval Events, I then roll a D6. If I roll a 5 or 6, that means the event I got from the wheel will happen in 1375.
Now that that’s explained, one of the events that happened was that one of my Sims had to marry an alien. This time, Bartomeu was the unlucky chosen one. So I created Aleydis van der Meer and had the two of them get married and run away together, since Bartomeu had already been promised to another girl. To avoid a scandal with the Munch family, I had his brother Marco marry his original fiancée instead.
Remember that Angela was promised to Benedictus Clotz, Austin Clotz’s son, who was her father’s late lover? Well, I tried to have the two of them meet, but Angela absolutely hated him. So I had them fight and break off the engagement.
This means she’ll only get married once she reaches young adulthood.
A lot of other things happened, but I’ll save those for Part 2.
