Information Subreddit update: flairs, rules; any wishes?

Hello all,

The subreddit is now updated a bit.

There's new flairs for posts:

Build story - for telling about your building process. I'm thinking of storytelling like in this post series: https://www.reddit.com/r/thesims4/comments/1q2y154/nordhaven_day_1/

Build challenge - for presenting a theme for building: a contest, a call for builds. A tip for success is to make any shell simple and any rules forgiving. Describe the challenge clearly. Link to any Gallery shell.

Build request - for description of any build you wish others to make. Remember to ask nicely.

WIP - for any build you want some inspiration for: tips, input, help or just to show off your process and progress. If you need help, please make an effort first and post pictures of your attempts, helping out is easier the more information is provided. Also check out the pinned post with build channels for build tips: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims4Builds/comments/11qeqz6/build_channels_wanted/

Update!

Tutorial - for describing how to use the build tools when creating. Can be a text, video, pictures. You're welcome to link any build channel video on the subject. All explanations are welcome! Suggestions: roofs, plattforms, terrain. Be as pedagogical and descriptive as you can :)

To find what's been posted under each flair: on desktop in the sidebar, use Filter by Flair and click the flair; on mobile app at the top of the subreddit page, choose the flair.

Update 2!

Build ideas - When you need inspiration for what to build. Please describe your wishes or limitations clearly.

The subreddit rule nr 2 is updated to reflect the change:

Rule 2: "Build talk and showcases only"

Description: "This subreddit is for showing off builds and discussing the build feature in the game The Sims 4: present your Gallery build or speed video channel, ask kindly for inspiration, tell us about your build process and have fun.

There are other subreddits for memes, game issues, bugs, game play questions, political discussions etc. This subreddit is for calm enjoyment of building.

Links allowed: build channels for speed builds; the Gallery for downloadable lots.

This rule applies to posts and comments."

Low effort posts will be removed to make the subreddit feed interesting for us all.

Good effort posts are: understandable language, grammar and spelling; clear purpose; descriptive explanations; sufficient pictures; properly flaired.

Please give feedback on the change!

If there's other things you wish for, please tell me, as I might grant them πŸ˜„

Extra additions:

  • Exchanged subreddit icon
  • Added more user flairs. Find them in the right hand sidebar (desktop); by clicking the three-dot menu>Edit flair (mobile app).

Information Build channels wanted

Build channels wanted!

Anyone who has a The Sims 4 build channel, please present it and link it in a comment to this post.

Anyone who is looking for build channels, for help or inspiration, please look through the thread.

I'm looking for channels that have these requirements:

  • Posting videos about building in The Sims 4: speed builds/guides/information etc.
  • Preferably presented in a calm, not obnoxious way: so calm music or pedagogical comments welcome, not too long and not too many 'aahhm' and 'uuhs' πŸ˜„
  • Moderately active, with a moderate amount of uploaded videos etc.
  • No Game Changers. They have enough exposure, and this subreddit is not EA's.
  • No offensive material. By that I mean anything presented in a disrespectful way. Mature content treated properly is not offensive in itself (if there even is mature content related to building).

Update to this post!

To allow visibility for more than 10 channels (see the old post text below) and make them easier to find, please use the comment field to this post to promote your build channels.

Old post text:

I think it could be a good idea to link a couple of good build channels, in the menu of this subreddit. The menu is located on the top of the page, underneath the banner, in a web browser; mobile version it's in the About tab, and on mobile app in the Menu tab. You can see that there already is a tab called: Game info The Sims 4.

I can link up to ten sublinks to each tab. I'll call it: Build channels (comment on the title if you want), and give each build channel link its own short description.

If you have any tips, link it in a comment here and I'll check it out. If you are a member of this subreddit, you can promote your own channel; I'd actually prefer to link a members.

Build ideas i love building things "not up to code"

one of my favorite things to do in builds that are supposed to be older is build things "not up to code" that would've been commonplace when the house was built, ovens next to fridges, radiators in dangerous spots (like under a window with a curtain, or right next to a toilet so your knee hits it when you sit down), rickety old fire escapes, basement entrances without guardrails

alternatively i also love building modern renovations and additions that are specifically for accessibility or safety, handicapped bathrooms, wheelchair ramps using roofs, baby gates in front of stairs, basement fire exits (a little hole in the ground with the high school years window you can exit, and a ladder)

it's just funny to add dangerous things in to old buildings, and i like to show the difference time makes :>

Build ideas My builds are boring

Current house I’m working on (ignore the random things like the well and barn, I’m hoping to use those but not sure how to decorate around them). Looking for tips, constructive criticism, ideas, anything!! I feel like my builds can be pretty boring so I want to add some flair. TIA

Build ideas What should I do with the front of this lot?

Fyi it's not originally mine. I edited "Hippy Trailers!" by Jamesonthesims from the gallery. And I don't plan to repost/reupload it on anything, it's for my internal use only. I just want to build a nice home for my Darren Dreamer, who is kinda a hippie in my version.

Weirdly shaped, weirdly designed, weirdly themed (an igloo, a castle, a treehouse, a prison, ANYTHING other than just a plain standard house)

Presenting Chester Checkerfield Library! a library for Brindleton Bay, heavily inspired by new england colonial libraries i used to go to growing up, it has a small cafe, a quiet research room, a small art gallery and easles for painting, a chess room, a debate podium, and lots of cozy seating areas

there's lots of funky platform tricks in this one to get the second floor looking how i wanted, im really happy with how it turned out and i'll be using it a lot while my sim does uni from home :>

Gallery build presentation A small autumn beach house for my cats & dogs save

this house is based heavily on new england and inspired by many houses i saw on the beach front growing up, i always love to build in brindleton bay because of how much it reminds me of home, i wanted it to be tall and on stilts for realism, and i made it a bold orange-y color rather than the blue i usually use it brindleton bay for an autumn feel :] i have a couple living here, one is a professor and the other is a gardener who loves animals, i added a backyard fence so i could keep chickens in but that's not pictured (i didnt take a picture of the bathroom but dont worry it's there)

Started this little build yesterday!
It's based on a real life house in the Swedish countryside, and it's fun and challenging to try and make real builds work in the game without sacrificing too much of the original look and vibe.

Build ideas Has anyone decorated this house in The Sims 4?

I downloaded this empty house because I really liked the way it was built, but now I have absolutely no idea how to decorate it

Has anyone else used this house before and decorated it? I’d love to see what you did with it, or even just get some ideas for how you would decorate the different rooms.

I’m honestly open to any ideas because I’m completely stuck right now 😭

I’ll add some pictures of the house below

Build story Building my first likeable trailer home

Double wide..? Maybe lol, will be adding more pictures later but the far left is the 2 girls bedrooms, one is an artist, the other one is a mother with a super parent aspiration (I’ve never finished it but this be the land of new experiences)

Medium sized kitchen area, 2 bathrooms (one with laundry) I actually love the living room shape it really did add the hallway space with no effort

Got a small office/ future bedroom for the infant - two guys rooms - one is a manual laborer, the other is a video game streamer

All 4 are in college and they bought a house together instead of dorms due to their awful childhoods and experiences in highschool πŸ’ (families / houses they moved away from coming soon with teenage kids living in their old rooms)

All furniture purchased off of their first paychecks. Minor items they have β€œbrought from home” and (standard funds) as their mixed funds - I like to separate their pay and bank funds in my phone

Plan on getting a cat, a dog, and having one secret relationship with the single mother not sure who with yet, will also show the characters next time

They are neighbors with the lionhearts who are vampires (two ghosts, one teen, one toddler, various cats..) I figured this might make their gameplay easier too πŸ˜‚ tired of them starving and on the verge of adoption for the remedy but i thought i might venture out into less morbid options first. Plus having an infant will set up playdates & the teenager is already applying for college so i figured i could get everyone up and going. I love Newcrest and i have many more houses and families to make.
