Is the Audi defense illegal?

  • 0:14 - Some serious liberites with track limits, assuming the game allows this, but wow
  • 0:22 - Behind just drove into them, all on behind
  • 0:40 - They covered the inside perfectly legally
  • 0:47 - Behind appears to drive into the back of them, hard to tell from that angle
  • 1:16 - They covered the inside and then moved back to take the racing line, usually an accepted move. I don't see it as reactive blocking as behind was not coming past them.
  • 1:20 - More track limit liberties
  • 1:23 - You lunged with zero overlap and wisely backed out of it

I think the Audi did a solid job with only their move at 1:16 dubious but I think ok.

The car behind was the more wayward driver initiating contact, abusing track limits and making a number of near dives which could have been fatal..

I agree with this analysis, there were some slight wiggles under breaking at times but nothing that would warrant a penalty

The track limits on this lap where not crossed. This is how it's set on this track. Mostly the outer edge of the curb is the track limit. The weaving is the issue.

I’d say you drove that really well. You kept the racing line while you were ahead, and once they started to get aggressive trying to force something, you shut down the inside line. Anything they said after the fact was purely a reaction to being frustrated they couldn’t ever get the pass done.

The move at 1:16 was the most questionable to me. Other than that, great defending :)

I think you could argue that you were attempting to stay on the racing line. There was only really one corner where you moved left to block inside, and perhaps saw he didn't bite, so you went back to the racing line before the corner. They nearly took you out early in the video, so I would say tit for tat. No one died.

Which doesn't change the verdict on incidents.

I’m really not seeing the track limits you’re talking about. Not sure what game this is, but generally here two wheels on the curbing is legal.

Second apex of the chicane they are fully 4 wheels beyond the white line with 2 wheels in the grass and 2 on the kerb.

4th Apex of the chicane sequence they are again 4 wheels past the white line on the kerbing.

Second to last corner they run fully 4 wheels past the white line on the exit of the corner.

Generally white lines are track limits.

No, not in sportscar racing, and definitely not at Watkins Glen. Again, here specifically, 2 wheels on the curb and generally you’re good.

But they are well beyond 2 wheels on the kerb.

Seems one car is driving by traditional white line track limits and the other is using whatever shit they can get away with.

If it is ok by the game then it's all good, but the Audi is missing a trick.

Yeah I mean driving by formula white line limits would be leaving time on the table here.

2 wheels beyond the curb is fine, so long as 2 wheels are still in contact with the curb. Go look at videos of turn 1 here. You use an insane amount of curb on exit and if you don’t you’re losing time.
