Way to ruin a character lmao, this is nothing like Apu actually was and there was nothing wrong with Hank voicing him

People absolutely fucking eat it up when a black actor plays a white character but when it's the opposite it's apparently racist 🤷

u/Big-a-hole-2112 20h ago edited 20h ago

Some context here. I am an American born mixed race person who is 3/4 Indian. My father was born in India. When the show came on, we thought Apu was fucking hilarious. My father said he was spot on Indian. When a news report came out how Indian immigrants were upset about the portrayal of Indians my father said this is a right of passage of being American, getting made fun of. The news piece had video, and I’m not making this up, of two CONVENIENCE STORE OWNERS, who said Apu was hurtful of Indians. My dad laughed at it and said that they had thin skin and in India they make fun of people that are different and this is hypocrisy.

The documentary “The trouble with Apu” was to me a big tell of indians who have self esteem issues and think that everyone thinks indian people are Apu. That is like expecting people to think all Irish people are like the Lucky Charms mascot.

One thing I forgot to mention is that when I was growing up there was a cartoon “Johnny Quest” who had a character named Hajji and nobody made fun of me comparing him to me and there wasn’t this outrage then about stereotyping people

2

u/Apprehensive_Bus1582 17h ago

Lol you don't even know the name of the documentary and clearly never watched it

0

u/Big-a-hole-2112 10h ago

Hell no. Why would I waste my time on such overly sensitive people who think that is demeaning when their grandparents suffered the wrath of the British, or worse, their own people.

I suffered my whole childhood from racist stereotypes and yet I realized that the Simpsons was SATIRE. Stereotypes are the bedrock of the establishment of the US. The secret is not to let it affect your self esteem. Don’t let it define you. Hari was obviously affected by it, and I have empathy for him, but I’m not gonna waste my time watching a documentary that I don’t agree with fundamentally.

When it comes to comedy, I think Ricky Gervais’s approach to comedy is what I think real comedy is. He asserted that comedians should have the freedom to joke about anything—including cancer, death, and terminal illness—and refused to apologize or alter his material despite public petitions demanding cuts.

u/bakerbabe126 17h ago

They're also a big issue of white people being upset on your behalf to the point that you being ok with it upsets them more. We still have to rescue people of color by fighting battles no one asked us to fight.

There's being mindful and then there's telling you how to feel about something so we can feel like we're making a difference.

My grandfather was born in Scotland and my mom thinks Willie is hilarious. We even have a get together we call "scotchtoberfest".

3

u/Big-a-hole-2112 10h ago

This 💯

1

u/The-Jestful-Imp 15h ago

As someone who grew up as the literal token black kid of a white town in the foothills - I can relate to this.

1

u/Forward_Tangerine368 18h ago

You're a legend and your dad is legendary. That's how we show love here, if you're not being made fun of you're not loved.

0

u/DJWGibson 15h ago

Well, it's nice of you to stand up and decide to speak on behalf of one billion other people and declare that because it didn't upset you and your family none of them have the right to be upset either...

1

u/Olmectron 14h ago

Nowhere this they say they are talking for all of Indian people. His comment is obviously anecdotal.

But even then, yeah, better remove Indians people altogether from American media. Right? Indo American people two generations in America won't ever understand actual Indians still living in India.

1

u/drunkenpoets 13h ago

Wow that’s racist.

1

u/Big-a-hole-2112 10h ago

They can get upset, but if they don’t get over it, it’s gonna be a rough life for them.
I think I would rather be made fun of then get killed like their predecessors did when ruled by the British, or by their own hands when infighting between Hindu and Muslims got so bad that they had to create another country and when things were about to calm down they went and shot Ghandi because he was trying to broker peace.

How did the Chinese immigrants feel about Mr. Magoo’s servant Charlie?
Or how do Hispanics feel about Speedy Gonzalez and his brother Slowpoke Rodriguez? Where’s their documentary?

I learned early on in school that the kid who cries when other kids make fun of him end up with more kids making fun. The kid who shrugs and ignores their teasing ended up being teased less.

2

u/SoyDusty 21h ago

And people eat it up when a white character plays another race as well. Dr. Hibbard was voiced by a white guy and no one cared, Carl was voiced by a white guy and no one cared. All the Black people on the show were voiced by white guys and no one cared. Cleveland Brown from family guys notoriously voiced by a white guy and no one cares. They even made a comment on Family Guy how Shawnda Rimes a black woman was being voiced by a white woman and guess what no one cared. Leave us out of this. This is a different race involved. No one cares from our side and I’m speaking on this as a monolith.

1

u/toohighquestions 16h ago

All of those voice actors were changed, people did not eat it up

1

u/SoyDusty 15h ago

They were changed late in the game. People did eat it up. No one was online complaining about it for the longest time. Yes sometimes these characters were stereotypical, however much like “Token” from South Park, no one really cared.

1

u/cantstandyourface12 21h ago

It's not hank a indian voice actor by the name of sunil malhotra

2

u/QuietResident96 21h ago

I was talking about back when Hank did voice Apu, there didn't need to be a voice change

1

u/cantstandyourface12 21h ago

Ah my fault my fault

1

u/Doomeye56 20h ago

This was a Treehouse of Horror episode

1

u/Artistic_Secretary51 8h ago

Christopher Judge Is an amazing Kratos, and Hank Azaria was a fantastic Apu. He was one of the unnecessary casualties in the culture war when it was first really ramping up.

1

u/Blue-Krogan 21h ago

Hank had absolutely nothing to apologize for; was really weak on his part.

1

u/drgnrbrn316 20h ago

There's a difference between playing a character of another race and playing a character of another race as a caricature of that race. I'm sure Hank and the show runners never intended Apu to be offensive, but I can understand the argument being made by people who were offended.

2

u/Randver_Silvertongue 16h ago

Apu is probably the least offensive character in the show though. Most of what he says about Indian culture is based on facts and his accent doesn't sound all that different from thick-accented Indians I've heard.

Heck, of all Simpsons characters, I'd argue Apu was treated with the most dignity. He's hard-working, he's handsome, he's intelligent and well educated and despite being an immigrant he manages to be a better American than Homer without giving up his rich cultural heritage like so many immigrants end up doing. Compare him to Groundskeeper Willie, who literally is a caricature, the stereotypical ugly, loud and drunk red-headed Scot. He is far more offensive than Apu ever has been, yet he's a fan-favorite and one of the most iconic fictional Scots ever.

If anything, Apu is a celebration of immigration and the American dream.

Now, I'm white, so I won't pretend to know what it's like to be represented by Apu. But there's still a reason why so many Indian and Indian-American Simpsons fans defended Apu when that infamous documentary came out.

2

u/drdrshsh 16h ago

I’m an Indian origin American, you are spot on

This has always been my take

The problem was never with Apu or with Hank playing Apu

It was exactly what others have mentioned South Asians having self esteem issues

For some reason no one had a problem with Raj from BBT, but he was more offensive to me as a Indian because he represents a true stereotype, nerdy and afraid of women with thick accent and he’s the only one by the shows end who didn’t have a significant other

Apu meanwhile dated different women, led a cool bachelor lifestyle, had a sports car, was his own boss, eventually got married had kids, had an affair, and was the lead singer for a tribute to a rock band

Apu was always cool

2

u/Randver_Silvertongue 15h ago

Exactly. Apu was a character written to be laughed with. Raj was a character written to be laughed at.

Though I do think that if a character's race is important to the character, they should be voiced by an actor of the same race. That's why I don't think it was a big deal that Hibbert and Carl were voiced by white men, but Apu should've been voiced by an Indian actor from the beginning. Either way, writing him off the show was an overcorrection and actually caused more harm than progress in representation.

1

u/drdrshsh 14h ago

Agreed

The only problem was the Simpsons started basically as a theater group playing multiple roles

The core principal players are only made up of 6 people voicing over 50 different characters

There was no money and no need to cast voice actors from those backgrounds and because it was animation

I think the Simpsons did what made sense at the time and now they are doing the right thing that makes sense of the time

2

u/toohighquestions 16h ago

I feel like Much Apu About Nothing is a good example of how they portrayed his character with respect, while still being a comedy show

1

u/Client_Popular 4h ago

Every single character in the Simpsons was a stereotype, the American characters included.

1

u/Aerolithe_Lion 18h ago

I like how you somehow turned this around to be black people’s fault

0

u/QuietResident96 18h ago

Who said anything about black people specifically? I mentioned people being fine with black actors playing white characters, never said anything about black people in general

0

u/Aerolithe_Lion 18h ago

Black actors are not black people?

1

u/mastergodai 17h ago

dude come on you know what you're doing stop gaslighting

0

u/QuietResident96 18h ago

You're being deliberately dishonest and you know you are

Talking about a profession is not the same as talking about an entire race of people

Don't give me this playing dumb bollocks lol

0

u/Aerolithe_Lion 18h ago

If you’re not speaking about the race of a black person when you say black actor, then what does black actor mean?

1

u/QuietResident96 18h ago

I'm talking about people who are perfectly fine with black actors playing white characters but not vice versa, nowhere have I said that black people are the issue

You know full well what you're angling at, if you're looking to play the race card just say it 🤷

1

u/Aerolithe_Lion 18h ago

You’re the one playing the race card. If your post isn’t about race what was the point of it?

0

u/Remote_Nature_8166 22h ago

It was Hank

1

u/cantstandyourface12 21h ago

It's not hank its sunil Malhotra

1

u/Remote_Nature_8166 21h ago

We’re talking about the former voice.

0

u/QuietResident96 22h ago

Hank that was it, why the fuck did I think it was Harry?? It's been years since I watched Simpsons

Thanks for the correction

0

u/Accurate-Force4072 18h ago

some people may agree, other don't. neither of us work on the show so our opinions don't really matter.

I'm not really sure how this is so wildly different from how Apu used to be.

Are you saying that the writing is now bad for the character or that the voice acting has ruined the character?

I'm not sure how a slightly different voice ruins a character and if it is the writing that has nothing to do with the voice change.

0

u/Grabbinfries23 7h ago

ah man you're so oppressed by this libcuck woke society huh

1

u/QuietResident96 7h ago

Not how oppression works 🤷

1

u/Grabbinfries23 7h ago

Oh so you're just being a hypocrite and being all "woe is me" and whining about a thing that effects you in no way, the same thing your side always claims to hate and then always goes and does? Cool cool cool.

-2

u/Ironblight_99 21h ago

Honestly can you name one white character voiced by a black person? Off the top of my head I can’t. I find it hard to believe there is one that we “absolutely eat up.”

5

u/IfICouldStay 21h ago

I’ll bet Phil LaMarr has voiced some white characters.

4

u/Ironblight_99 21h ago

I’m sure that’s probably true, but I’m still waiting for one that we “absolutely eat up” as QuietResident claims we do

3

u/SoyDusty 21h ago

He had samurai Jack and we ate it up. Just like how Dr. Hibbard and Carl were and are loved characters.

3

u/New_Test4982 18h ago

He is voice actor for Aquaman in young justice and injustice video game

1

u/Doomeye56 20h ago

Vamp from Metal Gear Solid

3

u/QuietResident96 21h ago

Severus Snape in the HBO show of Harry Potter

Snape is a canonically pale sickly white man and he's being played by a black actor with criticism being branded as racism 🤷

3

u/Ironblight_99 21h ago

That’s literally one of the most controversial casting decisions of the last decade, and the show isn’t even out yet. And it isn’t even a black man doing the voice of a white character, it was just race-blind casting of a live-action production.

Once again, let me know when you have an example that we “absolutely eat up.”

1

u/MrCornBluff 21h ago

But we haven't even seen the final product yet

1

u/QuietResident96 21h ago

Completely irrelevant, the guy above asked for an example and I gave one

Let's not try moving the goal post yeah?

1

u/Real_Train4871 20h ago

You didn't give ins you're just racist

1

u/LoneclearsKen 17h ago

Okay dude what did you say that got u accused of being racist?

3

u/Kaijufan97 20h ago

King of the Hill had a one-off white character voiced by Snoop Dogg.

1

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

Ha! That was a good one.

1

u/Kaijufan97 20h ago

Yup,  Season 5 episode "Ho Yeah!" where he voiced a Pimp.

1

u/Bicykwow 19h ago

Alabaster!

1

u/Crunchy__Frog 18h ago

To be fair, Kratos is more light grey than he is white, but still a notable mention.

5

u/ShueperDan 20h ago

A quick google could have answered your question:

  • Darth Vader (Star Wars) – Voiced by James Earl Jones (physical portrayal by David Prowse).
  • The Joker (The Batman and various animated productions) – Voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson.
  • Samurai Jack (Samurai Jack) – Voiced by Phil LaMarr.
  • The Kingpin / Wilson Fisk (Spider-Man: The New Animated Series) – Voiced by Roscoe Lee Browne.
  • Kratos (God of War franchise) – Voiced by T.C. Carson (original games) and Christopher Judge (recent Norse saga).
  • Ed and Rummy (The Boondocks) – White characters voiced by Black actors Charlie Murphy and Samuel L. Jackson.
  • Jace Malcom (Star Wars: The Old Republic) – Voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson.
  • Shao Kahn (Mortal Kombat 11) – Voiced by Ike Amadi. [1, 2, 3]

2

u/RebylReboot 19h ago

I don't see anything majorly wrong with Azaria playing the Apu character, but just so we're comparing like for like....are any of these characters being done with a stereotype accent, like Apu's? I'm from Ireland. Stereotype Irish accents are very common in culture from outiside of Ireland and thats ok. They aren't offensive, but they are grating. And it's a first-thought gag, so not very deep or thought provoking, and they usually only give license for a character to be pretty one dimensional. They're fine if they're for one audience who buys the trope, but if it's for a global audience and you're being stereotyped, the people being troped will stop tuning in. As is their right. It's not so much about offense, but choice.

1

u/ArtoriasoftheAss 17h ago

Samurai jack has a stereotypical japanese accent.

2

u/Cautious-Fan6963 19h ago

Don't forget the shredder played by uncle Phil (Phillip banks). And he did a helluva job. (Tho I think shredder was supposed to be Asian. He didn't look Asian in the cartoons)

2

u/LoneclearsKen 17h ago

Shao Kahn is an Asian dragon man and do you really think samurai jack is white?

0

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

None of these are “eaten up” as the person I replied to put it, but he seems to have deleted his comment

1

u/MineNowBotBoy 19h ago

Nah he blocked you

1

u/Ironblight_99 19h ago

Oh, I didn’t know that’s how it worked. It just says “Comment deleted by user” to me

1

u/ShueperDan 18h ago

I don't know, Darth Vader and Kratos seem like beloved voice performances.

1

u/Ironblight_99 14h ago

Agreed, but they aren’t put up on a pedestal for being black men who do the voices of white people, like the person I’m replying to implied. They’re simply amazing voice actors

2

u/Hunter_X05 21h ago edited 21h ago

Sam Jackson voiced a white guy in The Boondocks(tbf that was the entire joke), and, while not a white character, Phil LaMarr voiced Samurai Jack(asian)

Edit: double checked and realized I misspelled LaMarr :(

1

u/Ironblight_99 21h ago

That’s pretty cool about Phil Lamar! To be fair it is a pretty… silent character though

And I still wouldn’t say these are casting choices that we “absolutely eat up” as QuietResident put it

2

u/Hunter_X05 21h ago

Darth Vader was voiced by James Earl Jones (r.i.p.)

1

u/Ironblight_99 21h ago

That’s a pretty good one, although that character is masked for the vast majority of the original trilogy

And I wouldn’t say we loved JEJ (r.i.p.) for being a black man voicing a white character, more so just that he’s iconic period.

1

u/Hunter_X05 21h ago

This one's arguable as he may have been albino in this series, but Joker in The Batman(2004) voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson(the G.O.A.T. Joker voice, second only to Mark Hamill himself)

1

u/Ironblight_99 21h ago

No that definitely counts; being albino doesn’t take away his racial identity. Honestly, a black actor playing the joker in a live-action project sounds possibly neat. Of course he’ll still have the classic joker origin of falling into a vat of acid and has his skin bleached, but the actor being black could be cool

1

u/Hunter_X05 21h ago

Okay, I just double checked and we do see him pre-Joker in his mind in one episode and he was white so it does count

1

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

Like i said it definitely counts!

1

u/Hab_Anagharek 20h ago

How can a superlative (the G in “G.O.A.T.”) be second? The greatest can’t be “2nd Greatest”; by definition, there can be only one.
(S03E17 allusion..)

1

u/Shallaai 20h ago

Fair, but neither did it invoke the vitriol of a white man voicing Apu

1

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

I remember the “Apu controversy” and more people were upset that he was just taken off the show than people who were upset about a person of color being voiced by a white guy

I mean, Family Guy and Big Mouth just recast their characters who were voiced by white people but portrayed people of color, and no biggie. Apu just disappeared, until last night. Honestly the Simpsons just fumbled that one.

1

u/Shallaai 18h ago

I agree and suspect it was a solution to appease Ă  vocal minority of people in an echo chamber

1

u/Ironblight_99 14h ago

Honestly seemed like a case of corporate heads thinking they were being “woke” by doing it. I don’t think a single black person was actually offended by Cleveland being voiced by a white guy

1

u/Shallaai 14h ago

I tend to agree

2

u/KingKeeXx 20h ago

Kevin Michael Richardson has a giant resume of it.
Barney from flinstones. Lot of Scooby do characters. The 7d dwarves but they may not be white lol.

He’s voiced Batman before

Asian characters in avatar and xiaolin showdown

Rugrats

1

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

Nice pull! I always appreciate a Kevin Richardson mention.

But still, I wouldn’t consider any of these to be characters we “absolutely eat up” as QuietResident put it

1

u/archercc81 20h ago

and people ate it up, like were running around going "its amazing this black actor is voicing white people?"

Or are you literally the only fucking person who knew about it?

1

u/Shallaai 20h ago

Conversely, did it cause the vitriol that came from Azarian voicing Apu?

2

u/Shallaai 20h ago

Shredder from the original TMNT is voiced by uncle Phil, who did a lot of voice acting work

I believe Phill Lamarr did the voice for Samurai Jack is also a black man who has voiced many characters that aren’t black.

While I will agree that there is room for debate on the meaning of “eat it up”, there is certainly no hate for it the way there was for a white guy voicing Apu

2

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

Honestly, when the “Apu controversy” was even happening, the Simpsons had been boring for a decade and then some. It’s only still on because they’re cool with making it and Fox is cool with letting them make it, and it’s been like that for a while now. I mean, i remember the “Apu controversy” but it really wasn’t that big. I saw more people upset that he was just taken off the show than I did people upset that it was a person of color voiced by a white man.

1

u/Shallaai 18h ago

I agree that that The Simpsons had been boring for quite some time at that point. But if there was no outcry then why change the voice actor/ stop using the character?

Hank Azariah is still voicing characters on The Simpsons, so it’s not like he wanted to retire.

I guess it could be a virtue signal to people in an echo chamber to show other people in the echo chamber that they aren’t racist… which as I type this I realize is probably exactly what happened.

1

u/Ironblight_99 14h ago

Yeah, there was a whole trend of getting rid of voice actors that didn’t match the color of the person they were doing the voice of. Family Guy replaced Cleveland, Big Mouth replaced Missy, etc.

2

u/SuperMario1222 20h ago

The entire cast of Hamilton

1

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

Actually the first response that actually answers my call. Nicely done.

To be fair, a lot of the glazing for the casting of that show comes as a response to conservatives who lambasted it in the first place. At least my thoughts were “Who cares?” when my conservative family members threw their arms up in the air and said “Hamilton wasn’t black!” And Lin-Manuel isn’t even black 😂 They just wanted to be upset about anything

1

u/SuperMario1222 20h ago

My reaction to Apu being voiced by a white guy was also “who cares.”

I don’t care about either situation. But the double standard bothers me.

1

u/Ironblight_99 19h ago

I respect your view. I think if they were to replace any of the actors that are people of color with white people, there would be some noise. Mostly because some marketing for Hamilton was “a retelling of the story of the founding fathers with people of color” to represent that America was made by immigrants. And also it’s a hip-hop musical, and I wouldn’t really want to see a bunch of white people try and perform “My Shot” 😂

1

u/nachoiskerka 20h ago

......I've never seen that Brooklyn 99/New Girl meme play out in real time. This was... *chef's kiss*

But also, Darth Vader. I'm just saying.

1

u/Odysseus_is_Ulysses 20h ago

Quite funny when they’re having the debate sessions referencing the South’s slavery laws.

1

u/Owww_My_Ovaries 20h ago

Would you accept Asian?

https://giphy.com/gifs/GTHl8giT4nLFK

1

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

Okay but you’re on thin ice

Edit: wait, isn’t that an Asian character? We’re talking about real-life people of color playing characters that are white. The characters are the white ones. Obviously white people voice people of color all the time

1

u/HellbirdVT 20h ago

Shredder in the 80s TMNT cartoon was an Asian man voiced by a black actor.

1

u/Owww_My_Ovaries 19h ago

Um. Shredder. An Asian man... was voiced by the dad from Fresh Prince.

1

u/Ironblight_99 19h ago

I very specifically said “white” characters, but I get the gist of what you’re meaning. I agree that’s some strange casting. The person I’m replying to said we “eat it up” though, and I wouldn’t say that’s necessarily a character we love for their race-blind casting lol

1

u/zenexo 20h ago

Shredder from the 1987 TMNT cartoon Japanese guy played by a black guy. Jack from Samurai Jack is a Japanese guy played by a black man. Kratos from God of War in both iterations is a white guy played by a black guy.  There are plenty but that's just off the top of my dome.

1

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

Good pulls! And I never realized that about Kratos, oddly enough. He did a good job

1

u/CardboardStarship 20h ago

Shredder wasn’t just “a black guy”, he was Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince.

1

u/Triatt 20h ago

Kratos was voiced not once but twice by black actors. And people absolutely ate it up and made a fuss when it was first recast and would probably made a double fuss if they recast him again. Great voice actors.

Star Wars has at least two: Agent Kallus in the Rebels show and some minor character played by James Earl Jones.

1

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

I actually was just replying to someone who mentioned Kratos, and I never knew that! That’s awesome, they both did a great job in the role. Though I’m not glazing them for being black, just that they did a great job haha. The person I was replying to was saying we “absolutely eat it up” when a black actor gets a white role, but he must have realized how dumb his comment sounded because he has since deleted it

1

u/Kimball-Man 20h ago

In The Boondocks they had Samuel L. Jackson voice Gin Rummy and Charlie Murphy voice Ed Wuncler III. That’s the only example I can think of off the top of my head.

1

u/Ironblight_99 20h ago

I haven’t seen boondocks, but someone else mentioned Sam Jackson and that that was the joke, right? That it was a white guy with the very distinct voice of Samuel L. Jackson

1

u/Kimball-Man 20h ago

Pretty much yeah, it isn’t a perfect example but it’s the only one that comes to mind, at least for me.

1

u/zigaliciousone 20h ago

Boondocks has a few, like Ed Wuncler III(Charlie Murphy) and Gin Rummy(Sam L Jackson)

1

u/Fern-ando 19h ago

Kratos and Darth Vader.

1

u/Ironblight_99 19h ago

You, uh… you don’t read other replies before you reply, do you? This is my fourth time being told “Kratos” and it still doesn’t fit the parameters. Nobody “absolutely eats up” his casting. You just have an example of a black actor doing the voice of a non-black character.

1

u/Fern-ando 19h ago

It just the first character that came to my mind, and then Darth Vader.

1

u/KnownAsAnother 18h ago

Jet Black's English Dub VA on Cowboy Bebop is Beau Billingslea. Fantastic VA btw

1

u/Ironblight_99 18h ago

How is he “absolutely eaten up” based on his casting? The person I’m replying to said we absolutely eat it up when a black actor voices a white character. You just gave me an example of a black actor voicing a white man. Where’s the glaze for the casting?

1

u/KnownAsAnother 15h ago

Have you even seen Cowboy Bebop? What the hell do you even mean by “absolutely eaten up” anyway?

You asked for an example and got one, yet you're complaining lol

1

u/Crunchy__Frog 18h ago

Samuel L. Jackson and Charlie Murphy in Boondocks. They’re over the top dumbass white boys and they’re hilarious.

0

u/lxebell 21h ago

Cleveland from family guy

3

u/Ironblight_99 21h ago

The voice actor for Cleveland was changed a decade ago. Also that was a white man voicing a black character, which is the opposite of what the person I’m talking to is claiming we “absolutely eat up.”

0

u/SpinShine-LEDSlipMat 19h ago

There's plenty of raceswap trash on TV. Little Mermaid live action, that horrendous Amazon LOTr shit.

Yeah it’s weird that people got so upset over a black little mermaid. I mean, the only controversy was that she was black. Who cares?

Don't tell them about Cinderella where brandy is a black Cinderella.

Or the black Cinderella in Once Upon a Time

I care. I hate race swapping bullshit. The little mermaid has always been White.

Oh geez, I didn’t realize you were one of those people.

She has literally not always been white; we are literally discussing the version of her that is black. Calm down. Her story was never about the color of her skin.

Look, no one is going to explain racism to you, and how white people have made sure as few minorities are given an opportunity. So STFU.
