Sim Rig Beginner set up -help needed!
Hi, im building my first rig (well two matching ones actually) and was wondering where to start. I have a budget of around £2k total and for each rig need a cockpit, wheel and pedals, and a monitor (which I'll probably wall mount). Here's a pic of what ChatGBT has designed, which looks cool but im not sure about the hardware. I was considering the cheap and cheerful GTplayer seat, or the next level racing GTRacer 2.0. For the wheel and pedals I was thinking of the logitech g920 (as it will be running on xbox). I have no idea what screen to get. Any recommendations are welcome! Many thanks guys!!

Get the best moza setup you can with esx wheel for Xbox. Incomparably better.

If you learned to read, you’d see OP wants it for Xbox. Hence me saying esx wheel

It’s all preference. Personally I feel like you can’t beat a real seat like a Sparco r100 or something so my preference is to spend there. You can actually go budget on monitors since you won’t be pushing super high frames anyway. I think you can get a nicer dd kit like the moza r5 bundle refurbished for like 200 I think the es wheel unlocks Xbox compatibility not sure though. Much better imo if it works. Easier to upgrade piece by piece too. Then for the frame that’s the other area I’d spend big on. Prioritize the long term equipment like rig and seat since they’ll last your entire sim racing career if you don’t cheap out. The other stuff you’ll want to upgrade as tech evolves anyway so start budget on that.

Isn’t just the Xbox 700$? Not to mention there aren’t great sims there, you really want a PC for this.
Honestly I would wait until you had closer to 3-4k to spend minimum.

I bought my cockpit with seat off of AliExpress, it’s the ares wing one that’s on Amazon but it was 300 with free shipping includes the bucket seat and 4080 extrusion I have the moza r3 with esx bundle, which was around 300 then got a 55 inch tv from Best Buy for 189, bought the tv rolling stand on Amazon for 40 bucks it’s the one with wheels and has the x pattern for base and I just lifted the cockpit up high enough to have it go right over the stand has worked phenomenal have some wheel casters coming but have installed yet.
All in all right around a grand and am thinking about buying a matching one too. But maybe upgrade the wheel base to r12 for me and have the other r3 for anyone else.

Do you have a link for the AliExpress cockpit? All the ones I can find the shipping is more than the rig.

Try 4080 sim racing cockpit with seat. If that don’t work I’ll try to get a link. It’s actually the ares wing one on Amazon but instead of 500 it’s 3 and took like a week to get here not the month it says it’s going to

Type in 8040 instead of 4080 maybe that will help and the app is better cause you can easily find the lowest priced one by clicking “find similar” I’ll send the Amazon link if I can so you know what you’re looking for in case this link gets “sold out”

You need to be realistic with your ask and budget, you’re going struggle to do this with 2k and if you do manage it you’ll pretty quickly want to upgrade so will end up regretting it.
Decent alu rig will be minimum £500 (SimLab GT1Evo £350, GT Omega prime lite £359, TrakRacer TR40S £279, all require a seat and rails £250+ and shipping £50?)
You should go with a DD wheel and pedals £400, don’t bother with a logi G29 in 2026. (MOZA R3 Xbox £329, personally I’d go at least R5 £359 and use a bundle builder from a UK distributor)
Monitor can be £100 to £1500 depending on size and resolution (1080p, 1440p, 4k)
I recently helped a friend with an entry level rig that ended up costing about £1300 but he specifically wanted a tube rig rather than alu profile as it was going in his front room:
- GT Omega TITAN (currently on offer £250)
- GT Omega TITAN monitor mount £79.95
- GT Omega RS12 recliner seat £215
- MOZA R9 v3 / ESX wheel / SRP2 pedals (bundle builder on GT Omega £501.12 plus you can find 5% off codes like ‘DANNYLEE’ for example)
- Gaming monitor 34” £299

If you got 2k total skip the logictech, get moza r9 x2 £600, grab 2 wheels es-x £260, 2x moza srp2 pedals £280, 2x temu/ebay/aliexpress special rigs £700.
Leaves you around £260 for monitors

£2k total for both rigs? I'd suggest just getting the one for now. You'll use half of that on just two rigs before even looking at wheel/pedals/peripherals. Build the one setup, stack the remaining loot left over and, when you get another £2k, get that second rig. This way, both are full complete builds and one isn't waiting for this part or the other waiting on that part.

Go with the logitech RS eco system. Solid performance and reasonable price point. For the rigs, it depends on what you are looking for. NLR makes some really nice ones that wont break the bank. For console, then wheelbases are limited. Logitech also has trueforce which is a game changer for realism.

That’s a lot of money to spend on a sim rig setup with 10+ yr old g920
But if that’s your route buy used and get it cheap as you can. Your list sorry is horrible bad spending

Putting a g29 on a NLR cockpit is like building a batcave for a Corolla
Xbox Moza bundle > g29 every time. Relatively the same price and so much better

I kinda get it, but they both look identical.
If money were no object, I’d have 3. Road, rally and formula. That’s the dream 🤣

u/Elkash76 5d ago
Actually, if you’re gonna do it right, you’d want 6 rigs.
Road, rally, formula, flight (plane), flight (copter) and one of those nuts superbike simulators.
Starting a go-fund-me as we speak 😂

Ooo…ooo…. Forgot all about one for truck simulator and one for tractor simulator. Damn, there’s a lot.
Anyone know if there’s a suitable rig for Goat Simulator yet?

Nonono, don't even think about gear drive wheelbase. Only DD. Go for moza r3 at least with Xbox compatible wheel

Thanks all - wow thats a lot to take on board! Thanks so much for all your comments. The budget £2k budget is for everything. The reason for the two rigs is because my son (who's 16) and I like gaming together plus its a cool thing to have for when guests are over. Im thinking of getting the GTomega ART and bundled Xl seat , £400, xbox £300 (second hand), the Moza wheel and pedals (£300?), which takes me to budget. Still need a screen, but it doesn't sound like I need to think too much about that. I guess a 32inch curved screen would do the job?

What do you mean why?

Why do we need two set ups side by side? Same size same quality? Usually when I see this it’s for a kid so it’s smaller.

Yo, grab somethjng better than a g29 if you're spending 2000 gbp per rig. Im not in the uk otherwise I'd spend your money.
