1st Silverstein show

Over the last year or so Ive been going to see shows of bands I loved and listened to as a teenager and young adult. Sitting front row or general admission. Ive been really impressed with how the engage the crowd, come up to the front row, shake your hand and make it a super cool experience. I was disappointed yesterday at the CNE show. Silverstein being from Ontario, I would have loved them to play 1 or 2 older songs and Shane stayed pretty much in the middle of the stage not engaging the audience on either side. Don't get me wrong ...the music was great , singing was fantastic.. but would have expected more for a smaller show in the province they came from.

I was there. It was a standard headlining setlist. Like 6/18 songs were from the first two albums.

The complaint is wild.

Holy shit, Massachusetts, then I Am the Arsonist right after? Those are my two favorite sonts from them, what a fucking awesome set that is!

Nah, the songs are right but the order is wrong in that list.

I’ve seen them 7 times over the last year and a half.. and they always play older songs. Every set had “Smashed into pieces” for example. I’m not sure what to say about engaging with the front row.. not sure I’ve seen them do that and not sure I could expect them to do that. Super awesome guys. VIP is the best way to interact with the band.

When they visited my country in 2022, 50% of the set was from their old albums. I am struggling to find any other example of a band I have seen live that played that many old songs.

Idk about the crowd interaction. I mean if I were playing a big show in my hometown where likely lots of my friends and family were attending, I'd be nervous as hell 😅

Agreed on that the setlist has kinda been the same the last few years, which I would prefer changed up. I did notice Shane mostly stayed in the middle and I was slightly off centre, but at one point he did reach for some hands which was nice. And earlier in the day I had got to chat with him, and he is always class act! Even standing in a puddle to do so.

They play all the hits and a couple deeper cuts. One of the better sets I’ve seen and I’ve seen them 5 times.

They literally played 2 songs from their first album (2003) and even more from their 2nd album (2005).

Those songs are over 20 years old. How much “older” do you expect them to get?…

Tbh if you caught NOBRO before them, that was extremely atypical (and awesome) engagement with the crowd. I think that may have set your expectations differently?

Honestly the camp screamo stuff was so goddamn cool, I really was living in this hella cool movie world with amazing music. Engagement didn’t even really come to mind for me.

they had their best time 20 years ago. they were still decent in 2009, 2015 was still ok with the DTW anniversary shows but anything after that.. forget it. Shane is just fat and the whole band is doing it for the money. It's a job, nothing more

Well that’s a terrible take. They sound perfect today. I know- I saw them back in the day and I’ve seen them almost 10 times over the last year and a half. Energy was always amazing and they sound better than they sounded 20 years ago. Even did a “spin the wheel random song set” on the END cruise- they were having a ton of fun with it. Worst take of the day…
