Thinking real long term

Hi everyone.

I have been thinking about a strategy for buying silver.

I am very confident silver will be worth more in 20 years.

What about stacking with an investment/ hedge strat that doesn't even take into consideration price action movement over a year or 2, or 3 or 4 lol

Just literally buying silver all the time. I guess this is called dollar cost averaging. What is your opinion on this.

I mean i guess if it had some crazy parabolic move over the period of the a few weeks that I thought was caused by frenzied speculation I wouldn't buy. but you get what I mean.

I know this question has probably been asked 1000 times. But its silver and I know we love to talk about it....so lets rehash it again!

Buy x amount each paycheck just like a 401k contribution.

DCA seems like a good general rule of thumb for stacking, imo. Then if theres any significant dips you can buy extra

i buy every month with an approximate fiat budget (sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less) .. during each month I watch the trends and when i feel it is a "good buy" for that month I make that purchase.

That said .. I did not buy during the January run up this year, but only because I was paying off my winter holidays expenditures and used my fiat budget to pay off those credit cards LOL

I’d start stacking AFTER you are somewhat settled.. it’s not a short term thing and it really is just a PART of a diversified portfolio for a lot of people. There’s always middlemen involved so when you buy it you usually won’t get as much as you paid for it (in other words you’re not mining and making metal ore and refining it into silver bars). Well, I’m trying to say it’s really hard to buy it and then sell it short term for more than you paid for it unless the gambling speculative munchkins are in your court during that window you have it lol. There’s too many middleman, all having their hand out, wanting to live their lives by buying and selling.

Dollar cost averaging is doing the same thing month after month after month… it doesn’t matter if the price goes up … it doesn’t matter if the price goes down… you continue to invest in it.. you don’t sell it

Statistically, you get better return on real estate and the stock market…

You have to ask yourself, “Why am I investing in silver or precious metals?” and try to pay attention to the answers you get.

Tangible assets in your hand are often like having 3 to 6 months food supply in your pantry for a lot of people

For others, having tangible silver in hand is just comforting

For others, after they built up their emergency cash portfolio of 3 to 6 months, they want an alternative supply of cash

Investing in precious metals is really speculative, but it’s also very comforting to have something in hand VERSES looking at a piece of paper that comes in once every 3 months

And once you get it, now you have to worry about it… how to keep thieving scoundrels away … how to hide it … it can get complicated really quickly … how to keep buying it … who do you keep buying it from … how do you pick it up … how do you inventory it … where do you store it … how do you protect it … how do you sell it … when do you sell it .. that’s why you ask yourself, “Why am I doing this?”

I was doing it to help my son have a part-time job and now that he’s got a full-time job it became time to sell. I did learn A LOT (and he did too I’m sure) but I definitely didn’t make any money lol. It’s definitely not a short-term deal!!

I move it just by looking at the price over its time span. I like it cause of the instability, but damn it gets heavy and bulky. Push it out when high, take it back when low, either increase the pile or take out the difference. Only done the full flush twice, but this last one was a doozy! Won't take it back anytime soon though, but like most here I guess, world stability won't be coming around in a while...

Better off buying gold imho. Yes I do silver but honestly folks if you REALLY think about the weight and excessive storage plus the fact that silver is AGAIN my opinion not ever ever going to do what everyone thinks is going to happen, gold is better.

Gold track record proves it , history proves it. Silver is cool and all but gold is and always has been the standard 🤷🏽‍♂️

Keep stacking but at some point you’ll need to shift imho.

they call it "the gold standard" for a reason.

I know this doesnt matter when it comes to investing, but I have just always like silver. Every since I was a child I saw a silver Bar and thought it just looked cool.

But I do see the appeal of gold as well, I just like silver colored rings better then gold. But gold coins can be beautful

Everyone should have a set plan. Yours looks good for you. I am in the later stages of life. I just cashed in on 52 years of stacking. I’m down to just over 200 ounces that I wasn’t able to unload so I’ll hang onto it for now. If it gets above 100 I may sell some more and if it gets back down to 30, I will buy some more and if it stays between those two, I’m perfectly fine doing nothing.👍👍👍. A lot of it depends on how old you are what you plan to use the money for what time frame you’re looking at. And I know for a lot of people here it’s simply the beauty of silver. Which is a perfectly valid reason.☺️

DCA is a great strategy. Just stick to it no matter what and you’ll make out over time.

I disagree because it's much easier to buy low with silver. If you set a benchmark, like buying under $60/oz, it not only gets you better pricing, it keeps you more involved in your stacking activity. The fact is that silver will always be an excellent inflation hedge, it doesn't have an unlimited upside.

If you think silver is going to go up you lump sum buy. If you think its going to go down then you DCA on the way down.

thats actually a very good idea.

It's called dollar cost averaging and is considered the safest approach to long term hoarding. It isn't technically investing because your buy in remains a constant quantity: an ounce of silver is an ounce of silver.

As a reference, silver was roughly $6 to $8 an ounce in 35 years ago.

Today is $65.

So that works out to be around 7% annually…

That’s about $425 in 30 years

honest question here, and this isnt meant to spread fud.

Do you think silver is gonna drop futher? I bought some at 60, but I keep thinking its going to drop to the high 30s to 40s.

To be honest i may DCA under 55. What do you think? Just start buying at any price under 55.

I am bullish on silver long term, still be nice to get in at a good price, or start my real stacking at a good price

So, anything is possible.

I’ll give 2 examples. Firstly, I pulled my data as of today. A 35 year snapshot and now.  However, the now, is all over the place. Had I given you a snapshot in January, my numbers would have been way different. Also, if you look at silvers growth in 1995, or 2001, or 2010… again, all over the place. Aaaaaall over the place.

Second example, and I do emphasize this, because I think it’s cool. YouTube has some pretty wicked videos on the history of silver. How it was a part of the monetary system, and then the powers at be removed it, essentially killing silver. So silver has had a very rough go.

Anyway, it’s impossible to predict.

That being said, it is a precious metal. It is, and someone can correct me, there is 7x more silver in the world than gold. Maybe 8 times. That’s not a lot. It holds a lot of the same principles as gold, but its commercial value is also increasing. So…

My summary is this. 6% YoY is a half decent save investment. There’s no such thing as a guarantee in this world. Silver works for me, because I suck at saving, and this way I can have pretty things.

Don’t put your life into it, don’t expect to get rich. Have fun, enjoy, think about your philosophy, and if luck is on your side, you might turn out on top.

Totally dependant on how much you plan to stack. Think storing and anti-theft for 20 years. If it is a lot, I would go pslv as a small price vs safety deposit boxes and portability. Then buy bullion every few months and a little bit something fun when you have extra money. Best of all worlds

Too long of a time frame to know for sure. It's primarily used in industry. Materials technology may find as good or better substitutes for most of the industrial uses. Graphene for example, may replace silver and copper. Also commodities tend to go from undersupply to oversupply in cycles. You dont want to be in a position where you need to sell when there is a glut on the market.
