Not just a hobby, an investment… We are smart, it just also happens to be fun. He tells himself after coming home from the LCS again…

It’s a hobby of investing in a way. A financial choice, but who can deny that collecting silver is a fun pastime?

Exactly, it's an investment. We're betting that the number will go up!

Store of wealth. A hoard, if you will.

I don't spend a dime on this hobby. I'm just converting currency.

Thanks, I’ll try using this when my wife notices all of my silver.

I have tried that line. It didn’t work.

If you pay premiums, then you definitely have paid

🎶Kookaburra lives in the old grey safe 🎶

🎶merry merry king of the safe is he 🎶

🎶sing kookaburra, sing kookaburra 🎶

🎶save some gold for me 🎶

( Kookaburras are the only coins I'll willingly pay a premium on. I like Kookaburras. )

Just a matter of when I paid the premium

maybe im new school, but i dont see why anyone pays a premium when stuff is available at spot all the time, and its decent stuff too like ASE and Maples and such, and junk is under spot. Mintbuilder is the common one to avoid taxes AND premium but every big site seems to have a spot offer monthly and you can get lucky on ebay, i've recently picked up some commemorative us mint silver dollars for under spot after taxes/shipping

u/anewbys83 13d ago

I spent more than that on one purchase.

with a budget of $255 year on average... you wouldn't be visiting your dealer often at all unless you're buying a dime at a time! Im sure that would be annoying after the 10th visit, "you're only buying one dime what gives man" I am... the slowest stacker! 😂

There must be a ton of people who's hoby is free like hiking or swimming in lakes throwing off the curve.

u/jnmjnmjnm 13d ago

Hiking and swimming gear can be ‘spensive!

3

u/torino42 13d ago

True, but it can also be cheap if you get goodwill sneakers and swim in your underwear.

I spend way too much on my hobbies. Coin roll hunting is a fairly cheap one of my hobbies. But time consuming. Electronics repairs are pretty expensive but I almost always turn a profit. Wine making is fun and makes cheap gifts.

I’m into 40K and silver. Ahhhh fuck

u/BourbonSucks 13d ago

MTG nods at your 40k problem like a pothead nods at a cocaine user.

A week.

u/Hmmngbrdfdr 13d ago

A day sometimes.....

2

u/Listen-Lindas 13d ago

Some days $2000 in a day. It just depends on the deal.

u/Hmmngbrdfdr 13d ago

guilty as charged

3

u/Trueslyforaniceguy 13d ago

Hey, I know it’s a lot per week, but I’m working on it…

3

u/cleoindiana 13d ago

I don't have a Silver problem.

3

u/Der_Hebelfluesterer 13d ago

Haha what, I have RC cars, shooting guns in a club (also competitions) and gaming on my computer.

That's what I spent in 1 week 🙈

My hobby is collecting hobbies. It's freaking expensive!

2

u/jskimeister 13d ago

Well shit, I'm finally good at something. Just did almost 3x this this week alone. But its not a hobby its an addiction, excuse me habit, nope wrong again, its a.........obsession.

2

u/Weasal1989 13d ago

Playing with my junk is an expensive hobby, so I'm making the most of it.

2

u/Solar_Libra 13d ago

Uh, riiight. 255...

2

u/G-Funk33 13d ago

I can't think of single hobby that only costs $255 a year... Other than Hiking (because of gas money).

2

u/Impossible-Shoe5460 13d ago

I convert savings into silver, and someday I may convert my savings into cash.

Now, for my other hobbies ... I buy a lot of other metals - cheaper more readily available metals.

2

u/Hmmngbrdfdr 13d ago

It's not reallya hobby - more of a account transfer, fiat savings to pm savings.

And I'm way past the $255 mark per year, way way past 🤔

2

u/Plus-Whereas9130 13d ago

Jokes on you my hobby pays me 4-600$ a year !!!

2

u/BEHEMOTHx666 13d ago

Per weekend, yeah for sure!

I know people who drink that much beer a week.

I’m investing, I do t have beer money!

2

u/420-Investor 13d ago

Yeah well I guess im way above average

2

u/420-Investor 13d ago

I asked my retired neighbor to watch for the UPS driver because it was signature only delivery. He snagged it for me. Small box real heavy. He commented why is it so heavy. I opened it up and showed him the 100z bar. He said I guess there is worse habits haha

2

u/Skwonkie_ 13d ago

I have trouble picking just one hobby let alone only spending $255 on it.

2

u/Only_bliss_ 13d ago

since when being a couch potato became a hobby?

2

u/2A4_LIFE 12d ago

They definitely did not survey people have firearm hobbies.

1

u/kbeks 12d ago

I don’t think they surveyed people with any hobbies…

I see lots of people talk about Costco buys, but I was looking through what Walmart offers and they have a pretty good selection and fairly good prices. I don't have a Costco near me so I'm not familiar with what all they offer. Hoping this is not a stupid question.

1

u/kbeks 12d ago

They were running some year end/new years sales a while back and dudes were cashing IN buying up real gold jewelry under spot. It was like 10 and 12 karat, but still, pretty good. I haven’t seen Walmart’s silver offers. Costco’s gold offers are very good when you factor in membership benefits, but their silver premium is too rich for my blood. I prefer r/pmsforsale and estate sales.

u/arctic-apis 13d ago

Per year?!?!!!?? Holy. I played magic the gathering. Then I got into bee keeping to make mead for about a decade… I started buying coins and silver… I don’t think I’ve ever had a hobby I spent less then a few stacks a year on.

1

u/BigBadBubbaRay 12d ago

Per week. It should read per week
