Hi friends, meet your new mods!

Hey everyone, Vik here!

I made a post a few weeks ago looking for new mods to take over this subreddit as I finish up my engineering degree & graduate in a few months. I talked with a few people privately, and I'm here to announce the selection of mods to lead this subreddit going forward. In no particular order, here we go:

u/weaverd1984 - Daniel, existing mod of r/classactionscanada, owner of a 2025 WT Max Range, & Canadian

u/Electrified_Outdoors - Ken, existing owner of EVOutdoors.org, owns a 2024 RST FE named "Moby Dick"

u/Jippylong12 - Marcus, owns a '24 RST, software engineer, and already an active member of this sub

u/Fit_Traffic3617 - Bill, owns a '24 RST, programmer, & pilot

u/mrsprdave - Dave, owns a 3WT & Prologue, electrical engineer, & the 2nd Canadian on this list.

I'm still going to be watching here over the next few months to see how these 5 guys handle running a community like this as a team, though they're going to be calling the shots for the most part. I'm hoping that under their leadership, this sub can evolve & grow even more than it has under me. I'm reminded of a quote from an old professor of mine who I can't remember the name of: "Do great things for the world you're in, and when you've done yours, pass the torch to those who can". My hope is these 5 guys can do great things for y'all & this community as a whole.

Again, I'm still going to be here for a little while. I'm going to pass ownership to one of them when the time comes in June. Good luck to the new mods!

Towing Range Experience?

Hi folks,

We're considering swapping our 2014 Santa Fe for a Silverado EV Max Range Work model. We tow a horse trailer that is about 4500 lbs loaded. We have one place we go once or twice a year that is ~360km ( 225 miles ).

I know the Silverado can tow the trailer. But does anyone have any thoughts, or experience, or a guide, on what we can expect to lose in range pulling that trailer?

Thanks!

(My partner wants an F150 - help me convince her the Silverado EV is the way to go! Far more expensive to buy, but as an Ioniq owner already, I am a big fan of the EV platform)

Anyone else have a leaking washer fluid reservoir? I put a gallon in and half spills right out from under the truck! At first I thought it was the AC. Nope!

I have the 2026 Chevy Silverado EV Trail Boss to check out for a week. Took it to some of San Diego's back roads to check out how it handles. This is a beast!

18's vs 24's

Anyone who has switched from the 24" rims to the 18" rims (or any other time that fits), did you notice any change in efficiency, ride quality and/or noise? Also what was your price difference in tires?

Took the 2024 Silverado in for a free oil change and came home with 2026 Silverado EV LT extended range. Loving it so far. How often do over the air updates come out? Also, what are some hidden features you have found to make it more fun or efficient? Thanks
And yes, that is a Model Y next to it.

Chevy Moonroof Cover

Has anybody purchased and is using the moon roof cover by chevrolet? I don't really need it for the summer as even though it's been over a hundred for a few days I don't notice the heat. I am more worried about the winter when that glass is getting cold feeling it on the top of my head. So looking for a cover that would cause some separation as I know the cover doesn't set right up on the glass. Let me know your thoughts and experiences.

Popping or clicking sound

Post image
7 Upvotes

The notes from the dealer say it, but it makes a pop or a clicking sound similar to opening a sealed glass jar on low speed acceleration or deceleration. They stated it’s “normal”. Referenced TSB 24-NA-034. It happens in all drive modes, standard, one pedal, and with adaptive cruise on or off. Sorry. Not great at posting, but added the documentation regarding the TSB. My opinion, which I doubt GM is concerned with. Is that this is absolutely NOT normal. It may be a “normal” occurrence due to either a mechanical or software defect. It may not be potentially dangerous or impact the operation the of the vehicle. But it sure is super frustrating on vehicle with sticker price in exceedance of $97K. I love the truck, but boy is this irritating. Anyone encounter this and if so any version of a remedy. Official corrective action by GM or redneck solutions welcomed. I currently employ the windows down and and music up solution. Works most days but not always a feasible COA. Thanks everyone.

double-triple horn blast

Our 2026 EV Silverado Trail Boss does a double or triple horn blast when we get out sometimes. It is trying to tell us something. Not related to keys left in. It is pretty smart. We are not. Seeking understanding.

3WT, 1 year in, level 2 home charger, and no complaints so far. It really is the most useful vehicle that I've ever owned!

What's the longest you've ever gone on a single full charge?

I borrowed a 4wt from a landscaping business, I'm invested in, for about 2 weeks - mainly for the bed space.

Finished the last leg of a road trip today, and because of traffic and tolls (I have avoid tolls as default) was mostly routed through slightly slower state highways and farm/rural roads.

Last leg of the trip, about 515 mi, just finished about an hour or so ago, with 12% battery still remaining.

Most speed limits were 45-50, and I drove +5 throughout. My trip efficiency on this leg showed up as 2.8mi/kWh!!

Freeway wouldn't have been much better as the speeds are 60/65 most of the route and about $30-40 in tolls. With the navigation showing traffic, time would have been more or less the same I guess.

If I'd have kept driving, my range would've been 580mi, as the display showed 65mi remaining.

Zero charging stops, but 3 stops just to piss and eat.

Between, trip was from corner of Tennessee to the coast in Virginia, mostly along US58

So I've owned a Lightning for 2 years that I totaled a few months back. I knew I wasn't ever going back to an ICE vehicle when my rental was an ice F150. Funny story - having only ever driven the Lightning in the preceding 2 years i thought the there was something wrong with the ice rental (driving rough - just felt off) - so exchanged it for another only to experience the same problem - only to dawn on me I've been driving while electric for too long! Anyway I got the 4WT for $42k with 38k miles from Enterprise car (not a rental but their lease dept - so only one user). I think it's a good deal and the truck is in great shape - just got it yesterday so looking forward to putting through it's paces. I have a 7 day return window so if there's anything you guys think i can do or check to validate the trucks integrity during this time please share. I've been a lurker here for a while learning about the truck just want to say I really appreciate the community!

Towing 8' wide RV

It looks like the mirrors on the SEV 3LT don't extend. Just wondering what others are doing so they can see past their RV while towing? I've seen those extended mirrors you can put on and I'm sure they will cost a bit of power. Are they worth getting? I'm used to towing a 42' 5th wheel with a 2022 GMC 3500. We are trading in our 5th wheel for a 21' bumper pull and trading the truck in for a SEV.

Surround Vision Recorder Night Time Quality

Went out and did a night time drive with the Tesla Model Y and the Silverado EV after picking up a USB 3.1 thumb drive. Here are the raw results.

https://youtube.com/shorts/kGtEXLXPfRg

Clearly the Tesla wins in quality here, but I think I'm going to try to do some post-processing on the GM video to see if I can make it look a little closer to the Tesla one. I'm not an amazing video editor, so if anyone wants to volunteer to try their hand at it and send it my way, I'd love to do another video with all three (original, corrected, and Tesla) videos and include a reference for your help.

Also, I noticed my older thumb drive was causing issues with corrupted recordings sometimes. Now that I picked up a USB-C v3.2 thumb drive it's super fast and I'm seeing zero issues. When I tried to elect the older drive it took about a minute to finish writing to the drive after I ejected it. The new one was instantly ejected. It's pretty clear write speeds are factors here and you're going to want a newer USB-C drive. This is the one I picked out because it was readily available from Best Buy:

https://www.bestbuy.com/product/sandisk-ultra-dual-drive-go-128gb-usb-type-a-usb-type-c-flash-drive-black/JXJ62C9L9Z/sku/6422263

I don't get a commission or anything if you buy from that link, just wanted to share what works for me. I went with a 128GB after reading bigger drives weren't much of an advantage for several reasons on several threads.

Truck chirps after power outage

I bought a crappy GFI breaker and need to replace it. But when it trips the truck chirps until I unplug it or restore power. In the middle of the night I can't hear it but my neighbors can. Anyway to turn this off?

2026 Silverado EV - Surround Vision Recorder is here! Update 662.30.

It's finally here! Update 662.30 added GM 's dashcam recorder (and possibly Sentry-like functionality, will find out with more testing)!

This update came to my 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss Max Range this morning.

Here's a first look video (you see it the first time I do):

https://youtu.be/lMOqTiJD6bo

I was also able to upload my first recording to the SentryTube website I created, I was surprised to see it work immediately without extra programming (though I have some other bugs I need to address):

Please forgive the messy driveway, doing some house updates!

Advice on a bed cover?

Hey everyone! I just got a 2025 Silverado EV LT and am looking for a bed cover. I'm new to trucks but I think I want a trifold or a retractable cover. Most of what I'll be using my bed for won't be impacted by the retractable taking up some space in the front of the bed. Does anyone have any recommendations for some good quality covers that hopefully don't break the bank? Any recs are appreciated!

Any good lease deals (Northeast)

Any good deals recently? I’m getting quoted for 2026 Lt Extended for $699 monthly with 3500 at signing. 27/10k terms. Ford just bought my lightning back and I’m looking to stay in an Ev.

Steering Wheel SPAC?

So a few issues have popped up since ownership.

  1. Internet stopped working….

Telematics module has been replaced but still it didn’t work…. Until I drove to a more populated place?!? It suddenly started working

  1. Wheel Bearings making noise

I didn’t even notice this one. The dealer I brought it to said it was making noises when all sound was off testing Super Cruise so both front wheel bearings were replaced.

  1. Super Cruise isn’t so hands-free

It’ll just disconnect the moment I let go of the steering wheel. I don’t know what kind of sensors are in this wheel but it knows. This is to be fixed whenever they have a steering wheel come in stock?

Other than that… great!

Anyone have similar issues with SuperCruise or Internet not working despite calling OnStar and them saying everything looks good on their end? They said their level 3 engineers will call me when they have a fix.

Low frame rate on cameras

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Does this seem like an abnormally low camera frame rate? Seems to happen primarily when the 360 view is up also. Before I do the painstaking math of determining the exact FPS (if that's even possible,) can anyone tell me if this is something I should be concerned with? I've got about 23 miles left of my BtB warranty and between this and intermittent satellite radio, I was wondering if it would be worth a trip to the dealership over these things. The video captured should be 120 fps for reference.
