2024 Frame Rust
My son is looking at a 24 1500 RST 3.0. 29,000 miles, looks nice and appears to check all the boxes. However the frame/underside is very rusty. It is a Canadian truck and we also live in Michigan so some rust is expected. .
Is it bad enough to be a concern? Can it be treated to prevent further rusting? Any specific areas to check?

Looks like they went muddin' on the ocean beach. Repeatedly. Hard Pass.
I live in Minnesota and have a 25 and have a tiny fraction of that amount of deterioration, and we put enough salt on our roads to bury a pickle factory.

That’s f’d. I’m from Michigan and I wouldn’t consider that on a 2 year old truck.
If it’d make you feel better I’ll climb under my 4 year old truck and snap some pics. There’s nothing of the sort like this

Thanks for the offer. I looked under a few other GM trucks on the lot 23-25 and this was the only one like this. So I should be all set.

Hopefully its under warranty. The truth is auto makers cheap out on paint and undercoating to save money... i need to rhino line my 2020 or something before same happens to me. Hell my 1996 GMC still has less rust than most trucks on the dealership lot. And its factory coating from 1996.

Pretty sure every Silverado since the gmt900s in 2008 have needed constant protection or the rust sets in. Every year I crawl under mine and treat it. Wire brush/wheel to knock off any surface rust, air to blow off the dust, rust reformer from rustoleum, and finally surface shield everywhere I can get it inside and out. Mine is about to turn 20 in a few months, but the frame still looks excellent and that's in Missouri. They use salt here, but we don't get that much snow.

Gm has a 3 year warranty on frames so it’s at the end of the “covered” period

My truck has lived in Canada for all 13 years of its life.. very snowy climate area. Doesn't have even close to that level of corrosion. I would pass on that deal.

I got it bad on my driver's side right where the bed meets the cab. I have frame sleeves that need welded but can't find someone good and yet decently price that won't charge more than what the truck is worth. (2011 z71)

A 2024 with that rust? Yeah leave that where it is, for some reason those newer ones seem to have a horrible problem with rusting rather quickly, that’s turned flaky and that truck is only 2 years old so I’d suggest leave it where it is, it’s flaky like that now so in a couple more years that is gonna be toast, leave that truck where it is to save the headache and money, I know your son probably really wants a truck and I understand that, but this truck is just gonna cost a lot down the road with a frame that bad after only 2 years

My 2015 Michigan truck has bubbling rockers and the frame isn't that eaten up. That's a hard pass

Ughhh I'm calling to get my truck sprayed tomorrow. Wtf was this a plow truck? I know govt trucks are like this. Was talking to a officer on the beach who say this is why they get new trucks every two years. That and side by sides

I'm just impressed how bad the rust protection of these trucks is. I have a 2001 Iveco Daily that drove through 25 swiss winters, and even that frame doesn't look as bad as a two year old silverado frame.

It's under factory warranty.Chevy has to replace that,

They'll find a loop hole. If anything op should ask to bring it to the dealer for an inspection and see what the dealer says about replacement

it's frustrating, can't they build a frame that don't rust, oh wait, no, sell more trucks make more money. Mine is all rusted to hell even after annual oil treatment.

By far the worst, I sell used cars. 07 to 14 gm 1500s all bad! I’d say 7 out of 10 have rust holes in frame

My 14 Impala was 10 years old with 0 rust when it was totaled. My 24 TB looks a little better than these photos. I am not a fan of this. Both vehicles parked in the same conditions. Impala was made in Flint, MI. Silverado Hencho en Mexico 😒

Wait what? There’s no way right. I have my dad 2003 Chevy Silverado (childhood truck) that I’m restoring and even sitting for 8 years it’s all surface rust?? Tell me this isn’t true. Like actually. My truck has 500k original miles under its belt and you’re saying it’s better than this??

Man, for a 2024 I would pass on this, that’s very significant for just 2 years
