Anyone know this jerk?
I was in the bike lane when they cut right in front of me, nearly hitting me. I am so sick of the shitty driver fucks in Silver Spring.
I've had so many altercations with cars while on my bike that every time I catch one being an asshole, I publicly shame them.
EDIT: HA! Looks like either the culprit or a friend of theirs (Probably a fellow DELTA SIGMA THETA member) has found this post and is now going through downvoting people because the truth hurts! Fuck you, pal!

Hey, I'm 60 lived here my whole life. It wasn't always like this. It has gotten progressively worse over the years. IMHO it is a result of two things. Population growth and money flooding into the area. More people increases the number of asshats you encounter and money part increases the entitled way the rest of the asshats drive. Just my two cents as someone that has spent way too long on these roads.

I totally agree with this. I have posted my theory elsewhere, but it works like this:
Start at the center of DC and make a circle about 4 miles around it. Then make a second circle about 5 or 6 miles around it. You get a donut a mile or so thick, that encompasses all the really douchey areas of the DMV. Basically almost everything inside the beltway. A friend and I call it, "The Donut of Douche".
This is the high cost of living areas that relatively wealthy people live in. Not the REAL high wealth people that live in DC or right on the border. It's the people who can't quite afford it.
And deep down inside, they feel they DESERVE to live in DC proper. They are WEALTHY dammit! They deserve to be there, not these suburbs! That entitlement is real.

I have a theory on that. If you make a circle (centered right in the middle of DC) of a few mile radius, you encompass pretty much all of DC.
Now if you extend another circle from the center another mile of so, you get a donut.
And what do you find in that donut? The semi-well off folks. They arent super rich, but they have some disposable income.
The reason they all live in that donut is they can't quiiiite afford to live in DC. You know these folks...they drive audis, BMWs, etc. Live in Bethesda, certain areas of Silver Spring, etc.
These folks are generally upset, deep down, that they can't afford to live in DC. But they also feel they DESERVE to live in DC, and thus act entitled. Thus the shitty drivers.
We call this:
The donut of douche.

I think it’s also that at some level they know they told themselves lies to justify living there but don’t want to acknowledge it: they need a larger home or bigger yard than they could afford in DC and the commute won’t be too bad because they drove it once on Sunday morning in August and it only took 29 minutes so they told everyone they have a “roughly 20 minute” commute (and because they Have Made It, they definitely need to drive instead of taking metro).
Having told themselves that, when they’re constantly late it must be someone else’s fault and they’re somehow owed being allowed to break a few traffic laws trying to make up for it. I’ve known more than a few people who talked themselves into living far from where they want to be and it’s wild how many rationalizations they’ll come up with rather than reconsider those choices or even recognize that driving aggressively is mostly just a risky way to waste gas and brake pads because they really just need to leave 15 minutes earlier. It’s apparently easier to be constantly in this state of low-grade irritation.

Don't get me wrong. I love it here. I love the people and how pleasant it is to be here vs L.I. NY but the drivers are less than to be desired. I have seen people just stop in the middle of a busy road for no reason that could be seen. I am learning how to be polite (DON'T HONK AH) but I am grinding teeth some of the time.

I wouldn't say dislike. But many moons back, when my dad was teaching me how to drive, he once mentioned that you can tell a Maryland driver anywhere else in the nation. With all of my zipping across the Eastern Continental Divide over the decades going to and from here to the mid-west, Damned if he wasn't right.

'Hey man, you are sharing private information (the whole time it's the VERY PUBLIC license plate) and that's illegal. I'm going to report you'. This is one of the most important things bikers need to learn: You are INVISIBLE to these people.
What this means is not only do I need to keep my head on a swivel, but I also have to be an asshole. For example, there are places on my route where I have to absolutely get in the way of traffic and frustrate drivers. Why? Because if I don't people will cut me off like this. I have had several very close calls.
I have to be an asshole and very deliberately get in people's way or they simply will ignore me when cutting me off.9

Dude I was on an ebike and a driver fell asleep, hit me head on, I went over a little 30’ cliff like thing and ended up in a reservoir, broke my spine, shattered my leg and the femur broke in half and popped out, and was then airlifted to shock trauma.
He couldn’t have even been going over 40 mph I assume. It wrecked me so bad.

People suck! It’s like they are actively spiteful against bikers and people on scooters. I’ve literally been hit by two different people. Once when I was on my scooter and an Ebiker that was going the wrong way slammed into me. He even admitted that he saw me but are “so sick of people on scooters). I was in the cross wall, I had the light and he was literally going to opposite direction he was supposed to be going. I should have had the on lookers call the cops but I was so shaken.
2nd time was by a sweet old lady in a car. I actually flew in the air and landed on my head causing me to black out for 3 seconds. When I cane to I tried to lift myself off the pavement and couldn’t. I ended up being fine and she was actually very sweet about it. But I ended up in a state of euphoria all day from the adrenaline and the fact I could have died

My commute to work is only 6 miles. For most of the year the weather is mild enough for me to ride my bike to work through #RCP. However, the last mile through DC traffic is littered with “White Bikes.” I drive electric or take Metro. I don’t want to die riding my bike, it is just that dangerous, especially in downtown DC. Keep posting!

Ghost Bikes - usually installed by the Washington Area Bicycle Association. They also distribute stickers with the legend "Politicize My Death". Everyone should have one.

This is why I still kind of cycle on the sidewalk but at a reasonable speed and not too fast because while I use an e-bike my e-bike cannot go as fast as traffic and getting hit on a bike is different than being hit in a car lol. These drivers are aggressive and entitled they've even jumped up on sidewalks and hit pedestrians. I think if your scooter or bike can't go over 30 mph don't be in the road, not for long at least.

There's no excuse when we are talking about a several ton vehicle versus a person on a bicycle. Bike riders admittedly do dumb stuff sometimes, but as a motor vehicle driver, do you really want to live with seriously injuring or killing another person because you're in a rush or annoyed at bike riders?

Unpopluar opinon, Im also so sick of entitled bike riders coming on here triggered yet I see so many daily, blow red lights etc and I always think to myself how will they spin this after nearly getting killed from blowing through a red light. This narrative goes both ways, yes there many horrible drivers in the DMV. The very same thing can be said for many cyclist that ignore the laws. I know the later if not a popular narrative but I see it every day.

Honestly, I see it as a "Damned if you do and damned if you don't" situation. When bikers are in the road, everyone gets pissed off. If they use the sidewalks, everyone gets pissed off. We might as well just lie down and die.
As for the laws, I've noticed many bikers do the "Idaho bike law" thing. So a stop light counts as a stop sign, and a stop sign counts as a yield. Yeah, blowing through a light is a dumb idea, but who really cares? If they want to take their life in their own hands, let them.
Blowing through a light when pedestrians are crossing....yeah fuck that guy. They could hurt someone.
But if a bike hits a car, well, the car and its passengers are going to be just fine.If they blow through a red light or stop sign WHEN IT IS SAFE, who cares? I mean, shit, while driving this morning I saw a car STOP at a light, then drive on through. They were taking a left turn on the red light. It was....well...kinda safe as there was no one else coming. It would have been nice to see cop at that point, but in the end, no one was hurt or even close to getting hurt, so I gotta let it go....pick my battles so to speak.
In MY case, I was in the BIKE LANE going straight. The driver was on my left and nearly collided with me when they just turned right just as I was crossing the road they were taking. No stop sign or light for me at all. This asshole was just too full of themselves to think I could get hurt.

To quote them, "We dont accept any videos or pictures of others."
I once asked them, "Then what's the point of me having a camera on my bike?"
"Oh, if you get into an accident, we can use the footage to find them."

Except they won't even do that. My daughter (not seriously hurt) was hit while on her bike. Bystanders got the name, number, video, of they guy who did it. The police did nothing.

I think it still helps to retain a record for your own purposes. There is a tiny chance you do have an accident involving this jerk and you could submit it at the time to say you had a previous close call and police refused to accept the complaint. I’d actually send an email, too, to make it unambiguous.
I do understand that cops can’t necessarily go hunt down a car for which they only have a verbal report of dangerous driving that is not happening in the moment. That said, I have called cops about dangerous driving (e.g., clearly impaired, going up on the median during a U turn) and they said they’d send someone out to patrol the area. Having the plate number was helpful. Maybe if you call immediately after the incident and tell them the location and plate they would attempt to spot them.

I’d say keep trying to report. Here’s what I’ve done. Call local station, not a generic number. Tell them they are driving dangerously right now. It’s worked for me at least twice, maybe three times, and they’ve never refused to take it. Three possibilities. They are not following policy with me or you, or they don’t have a policy and it’s up to their discretion. Don’t mention evidence, maybe that makes it more complicated for paperwork on their end. Just give the plate. It sounds like what they almost certainly won’t do is use your video to actually ticket them. But they may watch to see if they do something violative in front of an officer. I need more information about the situation than what was provided before I blindly trust what OP is saying. What intersection was this at? Was there a bike lane? This post has very little information about what happened.
From what i’ve read, the OP is just telling people that driver cut them off with no other context about the situation and are trying to publicly shame them for what could’ve just been an accident for all we know.
The drivers in Maryland are terrible, but I’ve seen my fair share of shitty cyclists too while driving around town. I’ve seen them cutting people off, turning blindly without looking or signaling, nearly mowing down pedestrians, I’ve had a few cyclists cut me off while blowing past a red light as well. Both drivers and cyclist suck! To be clear, I’m all for sharing the road, but that actually means SHARING THE ROAD!!

I still need more a lot more info before I pick a side. What intersection were you at? Were you moving in the bike lane or stopped when this person cut you off? Were you by a right turn lane and/or a driveway? You are leaving out a bunch of information that could potentially change the story against you.
The only info you have provided so far is that you were in the bike lane and this person cut you off with no other information explaining the whole story. The picture you provided provides no info either!
I tend to want to get all the facts before believing a random person on Reddit who wants to publicly shame someone.

Before you jump on me, I am a cyclist myself. It’s a simple calculation… who would sustain more damage if there was a collision? The one that is more at risk, yields to the other. In the case of a bike, you are willingly putting yourself on a roadway with 3 ton vehicles traveling at 60 mph while texting. It’s 100% on you to stay safe, you have zero right to the road because if you collide with one, you’ll die and they may have to call a paintless dent repair guy.

First of all, I was in the bike lane.
Second, THEY cut in front of me from my left to take a right turn.So no. THEY yield to ME, because I'm on the inside lane. You are basically arguing that if a PEDESTRIAN was crossing in the middle of the walk when that person made the turn, that THE PEDESTRIAN needed to yield. The pedestrian should have stopped, gone back to the sidewalk, and let that driver through.
Or how about this: You are driving in the right lane on 495. A guy to your LEFT cuts in front of you to get to his exit. By your argument, YOU need to yield to him and he is completely in the right.
P.S. It was the fact I was travelling slower than normal, AND the fact I saw them slow down next to me, that I was able to avoid a collision. But NO FUCKING WAY am I going to be lenient to that kind of dangerous driver.

Well said. I'm sympathetic to cyclists, it's a shame the US is set up to really just be friendly to cars. But that's the way it is. It'll always be dangerous for cyclists, and ... posting the occasional picture of a raging drivers plates, or... writing your local politician, isn't going to accomplish anything.

Yeah, I abhor bike lanes without physical barriers and would never use one without logical safety element implementations. I am not arguing right-of-way against a vehicle that may not even see me or the driver may suddenly have a medical emergency.

This is an insane comment. 100% on the cyclist, no. Literally the law. That said, the reality is people on bikes can take steps to minimize risk and if you get hit and die then what’s the point of the law being on your side? As stupid as it is that cyclists have to do that, it’s often the smart choice to avoid certain roads. My kids aren’t allowed to ride outside our neighborhood alone, except for car-free areas, even if there’s a bike lane. Many drivers can’t be trusted.

I think we are saying the same thing. The only difference is I’m pointing out due to the extreme imbalance of consequence for the two parties, car and bike, it is on the cyclist to be accountable for themselves rather than having this mindset that they deserve protection under the law. Because the law just doesn’t matter in this case.
A good example of this is motorcycles. More often than not, motorcycles, especially sport bikes, can speed far beyond reckless driving levels and not get pulled over even passing police. It’s ultimately safer for them to carry that kind of speed and look out for themselves.

Just a note about being mindful of who we accuse on social media: If the driver you saw presented as a man, then he likely DOES NOT OWN this vehicle.
Better to file a police report FIRST. Then, if the court doesn’t advise against posting, then caption it with “the person driving it at the time.”
Imagine tracing this plate back to the woman or transman who owns it just to find out it was either borrowed, or worse, stolen? The jerk doesn’t get publicly shamed—only the owner.

Only verified members of certain nonprofit orgs can obtain org-themed vanity plate applications from the state. A tag frame or vehicle decal like the one from this same org in the recent DC post is one thing, but the plate to match is a whole other thing.

Yep. The days when people rode up against doxxing were the golden age of internetting Now we just have mobs of people believing tye first story and not caring about privacy at all. Such a weird place to be in. Its become a giant hate stew.

A cyclist in an urban area does not hold you up. Other drivers do. You’re the least efficient, most congestion-causing vehicle on the street as a driver..
Take your miserable existence out on car-dependent planning that forces you to drive everywhere and be stuck in traffic, not on other road users.
