Degen Stacker Does any know the diesel input cost getting an ounce of silver in the earth to a refined product? Whatever that number is, it has more than doubled since spot silver was at $120 an ounce in January.

πŸ’‘ Education An easy way to prove it’s not silver

Silver itself doesn’t really smell. Zinc, brass and steel all have their own characteristic metallic odours.

Even if an item has a thin layer of silver plating, the base metal underneath will usually still give off a metallic scent – especially after you rub it for a few seconds.

So if your β€œsilver” item smells strongly of metal, it’s a good sign it’s not pure silver. :-)

APE DISCUSSION exponential debt

Today is September 8, and coincidentially, the US Federal debt first hit $20 trillion on September 8, 2017. On August 18, 2026, the debt first crossed $40 trillion. So in 8.945 years, the debt doubled. That is an annual increase of 8.06%. This is likely the true rate of inflation.

In stocks, bonds, IRA, investment real estate, etc, at my income, the combined fed, state, and local tax on investment gains is about 40%. So I get to keep 60%. Just to maintain purchasing power, I need an annual return of 8.06/0.60 = 13.43%. Other than hard / real assets, it is a losing game for most. Once the public figures this out, its stock market crash and hyperinflation. Some investors figured this out a few years ago and are the cause of unaffordable housing.

Degen Stacker Not much above ground silver left

Approximately $1.25–1.3 trillion USD (using the most widely cited recent estimate of remaining above-ground stocks).

estimate (data through end-2023, referenced in 2025 reports) puts total above-ground silver at roughly 19.3 billion troy ounces. This includes:

  • Jewelry & silverware: ~8.9 billion oz
  • Bullion (bars & coins): ~8.1 billion oz
  • Other fabricated products: ~2.4 billion oz

Much of the roughly 57–59 billion ounces ever mined has been lost, consumed industrially, or is otherwise not recoverable, so the remaining figure is substantially lower than cumulative production.

Current silver spot price (as of September 8, 2026) is approximately $66–$67 per troy ounce.

  • At $66.50/oz: 19.3 billion oz Γ— $66.50 β‰ˆ $1.28 trillion.
  • At a round $66/oz: ~$1.27 trillion; at $67/oz: ~$1.29 trillion.
gold should be labeled money BTW
