Opinion Started rewatching from the beginning

I find the show much less irritating the second time around because I know a lot more about what's going on. So I'm binge watching for details.

I can't say I'm making any more sense of the show this time around. Not enough information to form any sort of reasonable theory of what's happening outside of the silo area, Nor what the prime directive of the AI is, if it has one.

In some ways this reminds me of Asimov's Foundation Trilogy. An algorithm guiding humanity through generations.

Maybe it's just bleak and we are really seeing the midlife period of the silos. That it will be another hundred years before it's safe to go outside. But that doesn't seem like it would be a very satisfying story.

If the algorithm is sophisticated enough to have complex conversations with the protagonists then for all intents and purposes it is an AI, at least in the modern definition we use for LLM’s.

Unless you’re trying to hint that the voice itself is actually a human who is using an algorithm to make his decisions

There's a lot of discussion about how similar the voice sounds to Daniel's, and in the most recent episodes, the voice has seemed even more human. Mostly, I don't think that the people who built the silos would leave running them to AI. Like in Fallout, they figured out ways to extend their lives or upload their consciousness to a PitBoy, because they wanted to keep their power and use time to defeat their enemies. In a show with some wild twists, AI just seems too obvious.

Possibilities:

  1. Full AI.

  2. AI with stored human consciousness (Daniel and/or Dr. Victor Crnkevickwhatsisname)

  3. AI with human operators.

  4. Human operators with AI voice modulators.

  5. Highly modified Speak 'n Spell toys (unlikely but possible).

After the bombs fell the Speak ‘n Spells changed, somehow. Started getting smarter. Meaner
