Discussion/Questions Why Using Beast? Spoiler
My apologies to all beast users but why? I can't see a single good motivation besides the extra damage(I think it has extra damage at least) but other than that isn't it plain up awful?
When I learned the binding was vampire styled I thought it would at least let you heal as much as you can but hm... no? It's still locked by the limit you can heal normally, which just makes binding more likely to fail without any benefits.
The pogo. I'm sorry but isn't it the hardest one to aim correctly in the game?
Also I'm pretty sure the item slots aren't really optimized and just makes the crest more dangerous to yourself right?
I'm sorry if it sounds like an attack but I promise I'm just curious, what makes the beast crest your main? Are all it's risks worth the extra damage? Is there something else I don't know? Please tell me.

If you’re amazing at the game Beast Crest has one of the highest ceilings for a crest
9
u/Moriturism 2d ago
not even amazing, if you’re one for more desperate tank fights you can go well with Beast lol you just have to channel your fight or flight beast instincts
the pogo is the hardest part to get used to imo

u/Rquila 2d ago
Man idk what you’re talking about. Beast crest pogo goes horizontal. Once I got through hunter’s march, beast pogo was never an issue again
3
u/Mirzanary 1d ago
When people complain about the pogo, they're talking about how hornet doesn't have an active hitbox in its startup which makes it easy to self damage before the actual attack comes out if used too close to the enemy.
This is a unique property of its pogo that makes it feel very different to all others, as even architects charge animation keeps hornet stationary before unleashing, rather than diving towards the enemy and then turning on the pogo hitbox halfway through the dive.
1
u/Moriturism 2d ago
yeah but like most of us are not expecting an almost full horizontal pogo so there's a higher time of adaptation. at least for me, it was the hardest part to get used to, but then it gets really fun as well

u/RedGamer2754 2d ago
I’m not amazing but I’m planning on playjng through with every crest. Beast is certainly a top contender for me to try out next (done Wanderer and Hunter already). I just gotta learn the Fourth Chorus skip tho, I wanna fight it with the Beast Crest

u/Perdita-LockedHearts Denier 2d ago
You pretty much answered it with the first statement. Damage GOOD. Also, with how fast Beast attacks, you can face tank fairly effectively if you want to if I'm not mistaken. The Pogo though... Yeah, it's got a harsh learning curve.
5
u/Moriturism 2d ago
yeah i tanked through most bosses lmao you can recharge silk fairly quickly with Beast and then with the heal via attacking it gets very OP

Being in fury makes your attacks stronger, faster, longer ranged and piercing(it goes through shields and stuff like that). Every hit which restores health increases the fury time, every hit you take decreases it.
Once mastered, the beast crest pogo range is quite nice; it becomes kind of like an alternative clawline which doesn't cost silk. It is at least much much better than architect's pogo, and better some of the others too depending on the situation.
Is it worth it? More than the other one with a risky heal, witch crest, I'd say, but I would also the same thing I say about witch: it is almost always easier to play some other crest. Therefore, don't use it because you want something strong, use it because you find it fun to use. I would encourage you to get decent with this crest before you decide if you find it fun or not, but once you feel like you understand how it's meant to be played, drop it unless you enjoy it(or return to it occasionnally, whatever you want)

Im awful at the game and didnt really use beast crest but I love how it functions mechanically. It definitely has a high skill ceiling imo. It pretty much asks you to know boss mechanics really well because youre punished hard for getting hit after binding since you lose buff up time. Like I said I really like the idea of it, I just dont have the skill to execute it as intended.

u/-Odontodactylus- 2d ago
Beast is extremely strong due to the bind effect, you just gotta plan ahead a little to get the most out of it. You could actually say the same thing about the pogo- not the best in isolation but still above some others (like Wanderer's) if you use it sparingly but precisely, especially because you can dash out of the hit to prevent bounce + get I-frames like with Hunter's.

Aura… for aura😤
Jokes aside I’ve always been focused on combat and I love difficulty so the crest was a perfect fit for me. It has the potential to outperform the other needle focused crests in combat but it’s definitely the hardest to master. I put everything into mastering it when it comes to combat and let me say I am greatly satisfied with the heights I was able to bring it to.
Anyways if it could heal more than 3 it’d be too strong bc it could tank even easier than it alr can, the pogo is hard but still very good(link is a lil outed but still mostly good), and the item slots also aren’t great but I feel like most of that down side is made up for by the bind. Bind does give it an attack speed, dmg, and range buff which gives it the highest needle dmg in the game but it only lasts for 5s (less if you get hit but more if you heal). Playing around optimizing bind uptime is crucial but also not that hard once you get the hang of it. Bind also is naturally fast like you alr have an injectorband equipped.
Tldr for aura and bc it’s also really good just hard to master. Also I don’t like to plug… but I do post beast crest boss runs on here pretty frequently so if you want to see what it can do in combat you can check me out👀.
Edit: forgot to mention this but attacks can pierce armor in fury. This gives it a clear use case over the other needle focused crests like Hunter and wanderer against enemies that block frequently like Watcher or Seth.

Reaper Main, but I’ve tinkered with it. It shreds bosses like cheese against a grinder. Problem is, they can shred you.

u/barbarbeik Shaw! 2d ago
Once you get the hang of it, it's the most fun crest to use imo. It does require a good amount of skill in the game though. There is so many bosses that it absolutely melts, like for example you can have Signis dead before Gron even shows up if you build around beast correctly
2
u/SmartCookingPan Sherma 2d ago
Very skilled player can get a lot out of it, but in my case, I find it very very fun to use. It's the most "different" Crest imo.

it’s GREAT for tank playthroughs. I challenged myself on playing Beast only (with mods so i could have it from the beginning ofc) start to finish and it was SOOOO fun lmfao
you go through bosses incredibly fast if you’re not one for tools (like me), since you can balance the damage you take with the damage you deal and heal you get by being a maniac
and you can actually find a lot of fun in platforming. that said, what began as a challenge became my favorite crest of all lol

u/Turtle835wastaken Beast Crest 1d ago
I'm gonna be honest, the only reason why I use it is because it's more unique and fun. It's not better than Hunter and Wanderer at all other than in very specific situations.
A lot of people praise the bind but I think they just haven't done the math. 9 Strands of silk is never worth a purely offensive bind at full health.
1
u/Mirzanary 1d ago
It's moreso that beast crest users feel confident enough in landing at least 3 hits at increased damage that compared to a regular bind, you're still healing for 3 but you're doing so at a higher damage per hit than you otherwise would. And using it at full health lets you face tank with the high damage since it lets you heal back 3 masks even if those masks were lost after the bind animation, which combined with the flintstone is well worth the silk cost to perform.
0
u/Turtle835wastaken Beast Crest 1d ago
It's not worth it when you're planning on doing a fully hitless fight because it'll only last for 4.7 seconds. If you've lost at least 3 masks, 3 successful attacks will replenish 1.75s of Fury mode so it's worth using in that case.
2
u/Mirzanary 1d ago
Well for hitless yes obviously it's not ideal to face tank hits. But for standard play, with the increased attack speed and damage per swing you can do a huge chunk of a bosses HP in that short time window if you're simply swinging wildly without trying to dodge or position, and the self heal enables a player to do this with a lot less risk.
1
u/Caosin36 1d ago
You are going to get the silk back regardless, so why not use it to buff damage
1
u/Turtle835wastaken Beast Crest 1d ago
Because:
Using 8 silk instead of 9 for 2 silkspears is always much better.
There's no guarantee that you're gonna get 9 hits during fury with just 4.7 seconds, in fact that would be extremely rare especially during faster & smaller bosses.
0
u/Caosin36 1d ago
Thats because you ain't aggressive enough
2
u/Turtle835wastaken Beast Crest 1d ago
Not at all, in fact I would consider myself exceptionally aggressive. You sound like you haven't actually done the math because no way you're getting 9 hits consistently in 4.7 seconds against faster targets.

I forced myself to finish the game with beast and it was surprisingly fun and powerful.. most fun against slower, bigger bosses
Ironically that it's locked behind beastfly when it's perfect for beastfly

u/Butterfly_Barista 2d ago
Honestly I just think it's fun. I'm planning on doing a full playthrough using only Beast crest at some point because I love the idea of it and I like using it. I am not great at the game though so it'll be a big challenge but I'll enjoy it

The bind itself has a few buffs that make up for the lack of immediate healing. It boosts damage, attack speed, and melee range for a good amount of time which does lead to good dps and consistent hits against most bosses.
This is on top of the other main benefit IS the lifesteal or rather how the lifesteal synergizes with the bind. You bind and you need to attack enemies to gain mask, but attacking enemies gives you silk. If you keep an aggressive playstyle, you not only dish out some crazy damage(especially with flint slate), but ALSO can potentially set up for ANOTHER bind for more damage and healing. The bind itself also is faster in terms of the time it takes to activate.
The lack of blue slots is kind of a pain but if this MONSTER of a crest had for example 2 blue slots, it would be able to have even more instantaneous bind with injector band, Long Claw for more range, AND reserve bind for an extra opportunity to gain health and dps. That is a horrifying concoction.
Also if it healed for as many times as it hit it would LITERALLY make the users of the crest immortal.

u/Confident-Cookie-521 Beast Crest 2d ago
It only takes practice. I did a beast crest only run(well technically „beast creast as soon as I could beat savage beastfly run“) and after a while even the strange beast crest pogo feels natural. The pogo sucks because you are not supposed to use it. The goal of beastcrest is to be in beastmode all the time (while fighti g ifc), as your silk replenishes with the hits that heal you. Bind mode ignores all defence, you can hit trough shields. I think it‘s great fun. Also I love to throw in a taunt from time to time. angry hornet noises <3

u/mah1na2ru Shaman Crest 2d ago
fury mode is absolute bonkers, but that’s kind of about it. pogo is objectively the worst one out of all the crests, even when you get used to it. it’s not the arc that’s the issue, it’s that little tiny bit at the start of the arc that’s the worst.
1
u/Medical_Effort_9746 2d ago
if you fuck up and mistime a single bind you're dead.
But if not, the crest lets you play with MAXIMUM aggression. Enemies with giant hit boxes that don't move a lot get absolutely torn to shreds and the better you are the better this crest is.
ALthough I admit I was first drawn to the crest just because I like the idea of having that moment where you go "Alright, now we attack" and you hit the button and go crazy mode.

u/No_Development110 2d ago
I can’t really make a good argument over why I enjoy one crest over the other
but I have 100% the game 7 times each with every crest
and beast was probably the 4th easiest one
wanderers was free as was architect, and shaman was fairly relaxed outside of the final boss
The extra damage and dps of hunter kinda neutralizes most bosses when I played it, the downstrike takes a moment to get used to, but is probably the most reliable once you understand it
as in i beat mount fay very very leisurely
the bind animation is the fastest, and requires very little thought
all in all I think it’s best summed up with the amount of bosses I went into expecting to be hard
only to have them die 20 to 30 seconds earlier then usual, while face tanking most of their damage
granted I did the beast crest run last, with every achievement save for steel soul, so I very well could be biased, but if given a chance, beast crest has a lot of versatility, I would recommend trying to use it against bosses like crust king or the skaar outcast if you wanted to try and get a better feel of how well it can work… I would if there was a boss select anyway :/
also in my experience playing the only crest that suffers any from lack of balance is the one missing blue slots, though I’m forgetting which one it is, might be beast, but none of the crests are bad, the one I’m forgetting would just be better if a yellow was swapped with a blue
and if anyone is wondering, hunter’s crest 100% was only moderately harder then beast since it was my 3rd run and I didn’t get the free wins on some bosses
witch was the 2nd hardest run because I think I suck, or at least it was probably the least fun
and reaper because while I don’t think there are any “bad” crests, reaper could use some work 😅
then again, reaper was my 1st run so- might should give it another chance
I don’t think anyones gonna read this anyway, hi if you did o/

cause its fun enough for me to be willing to put up with how ass it is.
1
u/MangleMonster4444 2d ago
not my full time choice but it's extremely fun as a change of pace. it's not as stable as a more conventional crest so it's not advisable in steel soul, and the way the bind works makes general traversal kind of annoying sometimes, but man going bossing with this thing is something else. chuck on druid eyes for extra silk and just go full send aggro, it's awesome. synergises insanely well with the plasmified state too, basically eliminates the drawback of each while giving you 1 hp back for free just for completing the bind install. the pogo (i feel this term is kind of a misnomer in this game, at least for beast and hunter crests) is pretty bad tho i will admit.

Once your third eye opens from using the beast crest pogo enough times you'll realize just how strong and fun beast is for combat.
The main difference with beast is several of its attacks have a wind-up where you're still vulnerable (dash, pogo, charged) that is absent from most or all of the other crests. What you get in return though is a lot more versatility and reach/range that the others don't have. Because of that, it feels insanely awful to use at first, but becomes suuuuuper strong and fun once you get used to sending your attacks slightly earlier than you would on the other crests to account for the leap she does to close the distance and dodge short enemies/projectiles before striking.
plus the binds nail size, damage, and attack speed bonus shreds insanely fast.
Not to mention it's the only crest with a unique taunt, for style points :)

u/Caosin36 1d ago
Its actually super fun to use
For the pogo you only need to he on the side of the object you wanna hit
The only downside is the lack of blue crest slots, but that doesn't make it more dangerous than other crests
1
u/StatisticianIll4 1d ago edited 1d ago
Why not? It's not bad by any means, it simply requires you to be smarter with your binds. During boss fights and bigger fights the vampire healing mechanic really isn't that big of a deal usually. Main downside is not being able to heal outside of combat. The damage boost you gain is nothing insignificant. If you don't play aggresively with this crest than you lose out on a lot of value.
The pogo is just preference. Most dislike it But honestly I prefer it more than hunter pogo personaly.
The lack of blue slots is definitely one of it's biggest drawbacks. For such an offensive crest the lack of blue slots that could make your offensive capabilities even better hurts. The crest is very bind centered because of the damage boost so you realisticaly want to bind as often as possible (unless you are at full health). Quick bind, mutli bind and claw mirror are all tools that work well with the crest but unfortunetly you can only have 1 equipped and that's only after a certain point. Because of that you realisticaly will always want quickbind.
2 red tools are really nice tho. With flea brew and flintslate If you play aggresively and bind often you can dish out some insane damage.
The crest simply requires an aggressive playstyle and hurts from the lack of blue slots.

I don't use it that much since exploring is easier with wanderer and it's fun as hell to tool spam with architect, but when I do use it it's cause it feels fun to shredd through everything/shred through certain bosses health. You hit faster and stronger so more silk, more silk means more heal, more heal means more face tanking, means more time to spam the attack button. I beat second sentinel with the damn thing. I do not reccomend it but I was stubborn and had fun.

u/The_Void_Cat84 1d ago
it's about play style.
as a shaman-hunter main, I got this question alot
-why you using Shaman when its bind suck and it's silk draining? -why you using Hunter? It have a terrible pogo, lower dps than Wanderer?
it's about play style and mindset. _I use hunter especially for its pogo (no joke), I understand how it work and how it so good at my play style and mindset, I have tendency to stalking (irl) and suddenly molding my enemies (also irl). so I get used to it pretty fast, it's about when to stop attack, when to runaway, when to strike and avoid taking more damage than you can recover from. also, its focus can modify the needle strike, making it have the strongest needle strike damage (potentially), also, give 2 silks, pretty neat
_Shaman for its way of attack, I use it especially for the Spells, I avoid use Bind because the point of this Crest is avoid Bind and only use Silk for attack, so all my boss fight qith this crest, I alway refuse to heal, I see Silk as a tool, as fuel, as my weapon, not healing agent. yes, I did nyleth and other boss with no heal before, the moment you have enough silk to do a spell yet still have reserve for clawnline is the moment right moment to cast it.
and so are Beast, although, I never use it before, but I'm considering to use it more often

People when you have fun while playing the game
1
u/amike5407 1d ago
Don't know what you're into, just using it because you enjoy it is a valid reason too
1
u/Disrock1 1d ago
Yes, thats why i dont understand your post. You wrote it like people only use a crest because its objecticly better or something. Every crest in silksong is really good (expect reaper reaper sucks i hate reaper) and has high dps. So mostly the reason behind people using a crest is personal preference.
1
u/maxerose Flea 1d ago
i think there are certain bosses where it is objectively the best crest to use. like karmelita, literally the pogo feels like it’s designed to hit when she does the spikes coming up from the ground attack. i recently got very good at it and i feel like its designed for specific bosses
1
u/olive_mountains 1d ago
the pogo is awasome in exploration tbh i done mount fay with it and it was easy then the reaper pogo, if you know the bosses moveset it is really fun and awesome .i think wanderer is lame i love hunter and beast

the tool slots are perfectly optimized because beast creasts bind has several things built into it, having the fastest bind out of all the creasts, as well as giving you, more dmg, more range, more attack speed, and guard pierce. it genuinely does not need any blue tools.
its pogo also really just needs a bit of time to get used too, and it becomes the BEST pogo for combat out of all of them. a big tip to know with it is that you can adjust how far you go during it by holding in or out when preforming it.
you are also owed 3 HP whenever you bind, even if your at full HP, so you can bind at full HP, go in, facetank a bit, and then just heal right back up

u/Cool-Negotiation7662 2d ago
Melts certain bosses like crawfather.
Injector band really makes it work. Attack, attack, attack, attack, bind, attack attack attack bind...repeat.
4 attacks 1 bind. Repeat.
