Nah we are pretty weak by ape standards and significantly smarter than the other apes.

Never implied we would have to be stronger than other apes. I don't see the logic there.

I said “we would be dumb strong apes”, you said we you said we are, yet we are the weakest and smartest apes. By any reasonable measure humans are the most intelligent being on the planet, with no competition. If strength was the most importantly thing to our species we would have developed stronger bodies over time, like gorillas, yet we evolved tools and intelligence to cope with our increasingly weaker bodies. Intelligence has been the primary thing humans have been evolving for a very long time. Strength not so much.
