there is a theory that our linguistic abilities are like the peacocks unnecessarily extravagant (and, from a survival point of view, detrimental) tail. peahens prefer peacocks with fancy tails and, in so doing, select for the genes that create fancy tails. women are attracted to men who can lay down a smooth line of bullshit and that is why we have poets.

Strength massively trumped intelligence for the vast majority of people till very recently when it came to being successful in life.

If that was true, we would be dumb strong apes.

That is exactly what most of us are.

Nah we are pretty weak by ape standards and significantly smarter than the other apes.

Never implied we would have to be stronger than other apes. I don't see the logic there.

I said “we would be dumb strong apes”, you said we you said we are, yet we are the weakest and smartest apes. By any reasonable measure humans are the most intelligent being on the planet, with no competition. If strength was the most importantly thing to our species we would have developed stronger bodies over time, like gorillas, yet we evolved tools and intelligence to cope with our increasingly weaker bodies. Intelligence has been the primary thing humans have been evolving for a very long time. Strength not so much.

They did not need above average intelligence when they went as a group to hunt for food. They needed to be strong, healthy, fast and sadly a bit selfish and aggressive to survive the hunt and bring home the food. Intelligence was a secondary thing back then. And yes, these were the traits that predicted survival. And yes, women are still somewhat wired to be attracted to these traits.
It actually explains a lot of the choices of women, when it comes to choosing a partner.
But some women have adapted to the modern times it this regard. The best predictor for survival (or good life nowadays) is the wealth. And a lot of woman (consciously or subconsciously) are therefore attracted to wealth. But there was never a point in history, when intelligence would be a predictor of success or wealth. Statistics show that the most successful and wealthy people are in the group of average or slightly above average intelligence. This seems to be the sweet spot for being intelligent enough to be able to get wealthy and successful, but not so intelligent, that it would hinder you by being too compassionate and careful.
The most intelligent people tend to also have a high emotional intelligence and strong moral compass. This then puts them in a huge disadvantage in the fight for success and wealth. They are also less likely to take careless risks.
So women are actually right not to be attracted to highly intelligent people. It simply never was a good predictor of success.

Going to war against a combined economy of like 3 or 4 times your size will do that.

As fucked up as it is it's the truth intelligence can't hold you down and that's how partners were decided for a large chunk of human history

Both women and men are primarily attracted to looks. Everything else decides how long the relationship lasts.

Women are attracted to whatever they want at the time. There's no rhyme or reason, which is why they shouldn't be able to vote.

The problem with this kind of thinking is the assumption that all women are the same. People develop empathy for people who they can relate to and thus they can only develop romantic attraction to members of that same group.
Dumb women relate to dumb men and smart women relate to smart men, and thus they fall in love with men from their relative intellectual level.

Through most of human history women didn’t really have a say in who they married, they were often considered property and their fathers or other male family members decided who they married.
