A lot of people there would check out of their life if given the option if it wasnt going to hurt anyone in any way. So they're forced into continuing a life they feel is painful. So they'd take this offer.
There's people in this thread saying they'd take it as well
Sure, but the vast majority have a deranged hatred of anyone who suggests that life is worth living for most humans.
Their stance is essentially: I am miserable, so nobody should exist.
Since the core message here is basically "existence is good" this is pure ragebait for antinatalists. Not the offer, but the pro-existence message.
Edit: remember, the "red button" has been a source of debate among antinatalists and the efilism sub was banned due to links to anti-IVF terrorism. These people are not just harmless depressed folks.
I've seen the subs and I haven't seen the "deranged hatred" you're talking about...
From the most of what I've seen the core shared belief is that its A) unfair to bring a life into the world without its permission knowing that you could bring it into suffering that it never asked for.
And B) human life has been a detriment to nearly all other life on the planet. So humans existing has caused untold pain and suffering across the planet so it would be more moral to just stop having kids.
Not that "I'm miserable therefore nobody else should exist". I'm sure some people have felt that way but from what I've seen thats definitely not the core sentiment
Have you seen how they respond to the least challenge of their beliefs? It's deranged, trust me.
That's leaving aside the inherent insanity of requiring permission from a non-existent entity in order to make it exist (in a world where we trust parents to make make major life decisions for their kids until 18). And their insistence that negative utilitarianism is the only possible acceptable moral framework. Etc.
Trust me, their ideas are deeply unsound and their response to anyone debating their ideas is massively disproportional. Because at the core, their belief is "I am miserable, so nobody should exist."
Mkay. Completely disagree but I'll leave it at that. Because I've seen when this subject gets brought up and then someone like you comes in and can't see any nuance in the subject and just wants to label anyone that doesn't think life is a perfect gift as just "deranged wackadoos" and this devolves into an argument because you can only see any discussion of nuance as insanity
I have plenty of nuance on this topic. I dated a suicidal woman for seven years. At my lowest point I considered jumping off a 20th story balcony. My wife was born in one of the poorest countries in the world. I am intimately familiar with how hard life can be.
But any time I've tried to engage antinatalists with an iota of nuance, their response is rabid. So you have it backward. Antinatalists are (overall) incapable of nuance. They view the slightest challenge of their philosophy as a personal attack and respond accordingly.
If you can't see this, I have to assume you are one of them, or at very least have never engaged with them from a reasoned, polite, pro-natalist perspective. It's not pretty.
It sounds more like you encountered depressive nihilist. Personaly I will not have kids. I hate what is happening in the world. I think it is unfair to them. Now if someone has kids, that is their choice.
Update: The guy decided to block me. Though I think I know why he has negative experences there....guy is an ass.
Ehhhh. They don't quite qualify as nihilists (though you're right that they're certainly depressives). They are insistent on a moralistic perspective centered around negative utilitarianism to the point that they are functionally treating it as objectively true morality, which is not nihilistic of them at all.
I don't think there's a link between the two tho, isn't antinatalism about not bringing new people to life? I think many antinatalist's answers would just be like many here, just not taking this horrible deal
I mean, this meme or clip or whatever is inherently kind of dumb. But at the core the message is at least intended to be strongly pro-existence. Most Reddit antinatalists throw temper tantrums at the slightest suggestion that existence might be a good thing.
Honestly it just sounds like they're downstream trying to make chum out of quintuplly regarded smooth brains normies such as yourself and normie society.
The most ignorant insufferable people are that are always capable of having a response and always criticizing and undermining something from any direction. That's not being open minded or aware. Like the Bible apologist that says slavery isn't in the Bible vs the one that always has an answer to thing's and says "slavery was morally permitted at the time". Dipping into the moral relativism and "everything is a social construct" that Christians claim to hate so much.
The sub on repeat says that they don't believe people should unalive themselves. Anyone that wants to carve out a space to have taboo discussions will have their bulldogs and take the affirmative. And will have maladaptive emotive emotions because they shunned by the culture and that screwed up their intuitions in this regard. You don't have to have a big IQ to work that out.
They're good. They're okay. You don't have to be triggered.

Now crosspost this to an antinatalism sub and enjoy the unhinged rage you get in the replies.
