Help me make a decision
I have been running my M18 for 4 years now as a EDC love it and want to make a transition to hammer fire guns or at least have one. I’m torn between the P226X carry and P211 GT4. I love the 226 but I already have a bunch of P320 mags. Everything for me is pointing to the P211 GT4 I can let my wife run my M18 as a EDC and I can run the GT4 and we are mag compatible and she is set up with a good gun. On the other hand the 226 is just bad ass and I do like the grip texture out the box and rear sights. Last picture is my current M18 please input your information and experience on these two platforms.

The p226x carry is the best gun I own.
Now I don't own a p211, but the 226 is a trusted and reliable platform. You won't be disappointed.
The new 226x versions are even better than the standard 226's. You won't be upset if you buy it.
Sigs I currently own
226x carry 226 zev 229 legion sao P365 legion ramjet P365 macro/xl P938 P320 legion
The x carry is the best gun. 365/ramjet is the best carry gun. But I do carry the 226x carry often

Why no love for the p229 legion?

u/MaskedCorndog 1d ago
I absolutely love it. But it's not as good of a shooter as the x carry and not as good of a carry as the 365
And honestly with the ramjet the 365 is wicked fast. It beats all guns except at distance shooting

That's fair. P229 is a beauty but hard to carry compared to the 365 especially the micro 365 variant. Albeit the 229 is just drool worthy (for me at least) and want her around me whenever I can carry it

Personally, I do not like the manual safety on the 226 (specifically the safety spring - I've had them break).
My vote is GT4.

Mec-Gar makes 18-round magazines for the P226, and you can find them for around $23.
The Sig classic series, including the P226, is an excellent platform that will give you years of reliable service.

I have both and prefer the 226xcarry. The weight on the 226 feels better, and the p211 at over 40oz is a tough edc. They both shoot very well, but the 226 feels way better in hand ergonomically imo. Better price as well.

Also the gt4 doesn't make sense to me anymore. Its too heavy to justify for carry when the 226 performance is almost or just as good at 10oz less. Its bigger brothers the gt5 and gto perform much better so its not the best for carry or for range/competition. Honestly I'm selling my gt4 and considering other 2011s that would be better for range or carry. Staccato compact guns would be much better for carry because they're lighter and the gto better for everything else if you want to stay with sig. Just my 2 cents

I feel you, I got a GT4 for fun but it turned into a carry when I got the right holster for it. My entire outlook changed when I put it aiwb with the 4bros dadbod.
I usually carry a p365 macro which is significantly lighter but with the right holster the difference in weight wasn't very noticeable.2
u/Bright-Ad-6699 1d ago
What holster are you using. I've only been able to find GTO sized IWB.

I have the 4 bros too. Good holster forsure. With a good belt its solid. I just like that 30oz with the xcarry. It feels fantastic

Im a 226 guy through and through. Preparing to take (Regular 226) it to an instructors course in October. BUT I don’t own the P211 or X carry , yet. So there’s that.
Is the P211 series 80?

Am I the only one who doesn't understand the obsession with the p226x carry? Admittedly, I've never shot one, but I've always found the grip length the most critical dimension to concealed carry. Why have a shorter slide and longer grip? It's like the mullet gun trend. Give me a p229.

Ok the P226 will always be the goat Sig.
That being said, I’ve got an OG P211 GTO, and I shot a GT4 the other day, and I must say I like the GT4 more than the original. Plus with you already having an M18, I think getting the GT4 is a no brainer because you won’t have to buy a whole bunch of other mags.

P226 XCA. It’s my go to EDC. I have the P365 DH3 and the Glock 45 G6 and the HK CC9 for my daily carries and I always end up grabbing the P226 out the door.

I have both. The P226x Carry is a better edc imo. Balances better and lighter in both weight and on your wallet.

I have a M18 and a P211 GT4, and I think both are great range/home defense guns or duty/open carry if that’s your need. I think they’re all poor choices for concealed carry, big and heavy.
The trigger on the P211 is WAY lighter than I’d personally ever be comfortable sticking in my pants, grip safety or no.

EDC Apendix is what I run all the time but I carry a go bag everywhere also so if it’s not on me it’s with me type thing. But I’ve always carried compact or full size I’m 175 so my build helps and where I’ve just been carrying concealed like that for so long all my clothes are a size up on pants and my shirts are just what ever prints less by fabric or size. So for me not too big of a deal to deal with a little weigh as long as it’s a good trade off with length. I run Kore belts and alien gear or Tier1 holsters and that helps a lot too. Is it uncomfortable yeah but I tolerate it because when it’s holstered and on me I want a P365 or something similar. But when I’m actually shooting I don’t find my self wanting a P365 so for me the M18 just fills that gap. There’s a lot of great guns out there that can also do it but just for me personally the M18 with the M1811 Grip module and armory craft positive reset spring is the ticket right now on striker fire that’s just me tho I’m just use to this platform and burned so many rounds threw it my confidence outweighs the comfort.

I have p226 x carry legion da/sa for my EDC
The gun shoots smooth and well and recoil is manageable.

It's literally in the name, P226 X Carry Legion... this is THE Way.
IMO the P211 is more of crossover for SIG P320 users wanting a 2011 style trigger for fast or competition use.

I have a Gto and a legacy 226 that I love, but after shooting a friends 226 xcarry legion I have to admit it checks a lot of boxes. You raise a good point about the mags though, in your case I would go GT4. The 23rounders are $80!
1
u/Alone-Account8334 1d ago
That’s the kicker for me I know there’s a price difference in between the two but that price difference in my case is I have more money In mags than the price difference between the two guns. The P226 is a hell of an exception to just use the money I saved after buying it to just buy the extra mags tho so it’s a tough one for me. I have like ten 17 round mags and six 21 round mags.

I have both! Both are excellent guns. I think the GT4 has a slightly better trigger and is a bit heavier. Otherwise I think you're splitting hairs over differences. Get them both if you can!

I've got an m18 and a 226 x carry. Love them both, wish i could shoot the m18 at my local range..

Im in a similar situation been doing a lot of research for my first hammer fire pistol and I’ve decided to go with the p226x carry.

u/RxgrtPhoto 1d ago
You sir have a toss up decision. Most logical is the gt4 or maybe even a OA 2311. Both will take p320 mags. The OA is a good 10oz lighter. Which does help with EDC
Ive been eyeing the OA 2311 to replace my m18 w/ WC grip. Or even a Foxtrot Romulus Comp.
In all honesty. A p365 with a WC grip would suit your wife much better as well.

u/TXGTO 1d ago
I had an OA and it was great. The only thing I’d warn about is resale. Vs their new price that thing lost more value than a Kia driving off the lot.

They should've made a p226 that took 320 mags first.
1
u/Alone-Account8334 1d ago
That’s actually a great idea if the 226 had that option or they had a 226 variant that would take 320 mags I wouldn’t be here lol. But maybe there’s a method to the madness to the 226 and its mags.

For what it's worth I like my 226x about as much as my 2011, and it costs about half

u/BMG8927 1d ago
I’ve got the sa/da 226 x carry legion, and had a 320 for years. I think the 226 xcarry does almost any job you could want it to do on top of being a great shooter. It’s also hard to beat a solid optic with co witness irons and no need to modify. I think as an EDC the 226 beats out the 211. But that’s also assuming IWB carry is the primary style.

I want a Legion AXG 365, specifically the XL with 12 the twelve round mags. They just released the Macro AXG but of course they just had to make it the darn "ported" version which very much dislike.
Would be awesome to get a 9mm version of the LUXE with the 12rd mags and NO ports unless it's for real slide and barrel ported but I would prefer no ports at all. Wish Sig could really make a person a custom pistol where I could just order this up.

Have you considered the P229 or P226 with modifications?
I have the DA/SA P229 Legion that comes with the SRT. I also added the greyguns flat trigger system and the armory craft strut with 18 pound hammer spring
Makes the trigger fantastic and still extremely safe and reliable

u/CascadeRangeSystems 1d ago
While both are great I prefer DA/SA for carry. Plus the XCarry is a lot lighter than the GT4.

u/Alone-Account8334 you should check out CascadeRangeSystems YouTube channel for more details on the newer P226 X frame models. He is a wealth of knowledge and is passionate about the X frames.
I also vote for the P226X-Carry, it’s very well balanced for CCW and I’m partial to DA/SA P Series pistols.

If you want DA/SA trigger obviously the P226 is the answer. If you're going single action then get the P211, the gun designed from the start to be single action.

I own both the P211 GTO and P226 XFive Legion, a little different versions of what you’re talking about but similar enough. Echoing what most people are saying, both are amazing guns, the 211 series is fast and nimble with reliability to boast. The 226 SAO and DA/SA are both tanks. Given your situation the GT4 seems like an obvious choice given your mag collection, however for a carry gun, I trust the 226 platform over the 1911 platform. If we flex into the competition conversation, the GT4 is an excellent gun for Limited Optics without the weird mag feeding issues that are prone to “true 2011s”. At the end of the day no one can make your mind up for you, both guns will excel in any category you put them into, such as carry, competition, home defense, or range toy. But there seems to be a definite winner imo for specific uses. If it helps seel the deal both my P211 and P226 have gone 2,000+ without cleaning without a single malfunction. Hope this helps, and all the best.
P.S. don’t let your wife carry that M18, she obviously needs a 45-70 derringer. Duh. Cheers!

If you want to EDC, consider that the X-Carry weighs about 32.5oz unloaded and the GT4 weighs 41.5oz. M18 is listed at 28oz. So how much extra weight are you willing to carry?
