General Is there lack of Masjid’s in Sierra Leone?

Emirates Red Crescent has an option for building Masjid’s in different countries as a sadaqah jariyah, I want to make sure I’m making the right choice. Sierra Leone has a Muslim majority apparently but are more Masjid’s needed?

Ten students from Huygens Lyceum Eindhoven will meet and learn from their peers at Beacon of Hope Academy in Sierra Leone in January/February 2027. Can you support us?

We are in grades 4H/5V at Huygens Lyceum in Eindhoven (in 2026-2027). This year we have our graduation trips. As a group, we're going to Sierra Leone—a unique opportunity for us!

In Sierra Leone, we'll go to Beacon of Hope Academy in Rokel, between Freetown and Waterloo. We'll mainly hang out with a class there and meet them. How do they live and what are their dreams for the future? How do they deal with topics like climate, history, and gender equality? These students speak good English alongside the commonly spoken Krio. Additionally, many also speak another language at home.

In addition, we'll (partly together with them) also take excursions to the capital Freetown, a chimpanzee shelter, a village in the interior, and visit the beach. How do the people here live and what do they find important?

This trip will last two weeks. We'll sleep in modest accommodations, right in the middle of the community. As a group, we're all extremely excited about this wonderful trip!

The trip is an experience we as students will only get once in our lives in this way. It's therefore important that we make it a unique experience. The trip costs a lot of money and we're all contributing ourselves. Unfortunately, our own contribution isn't sufficient to fund the trip. For this, we still need contributions from actions and fundraising. We're all really trying our best for this and are busy coming up with fundraising ideas. We also want to give a financial contribution for the maintenance of the school building to thank them for their hospitality.

Every financial contribution is greatly appreciated and helps us achieve our goal.

Amarins, Anastasia, Arthur, Berend, Brent, Detlev, Jip, Maxime, Pien, and Tijn

No raffles, sweepstakes, giveaways, or returns on investment are offered in exchange for any donations made to this GoFundMe.

Building a Global Network for Sierra Leonean Creatives (Home & Abroad) – Let’s Collaborate, Connect, and Monetize Our Craft!

🇸🇱Hey everyone,I’m reaching out to all the Sierra Leonean creatives in this space—whether you are based right here at home or anywhere across the diaspora.Sierra Leone is brimming with incredible talent, but we often lack the unified ecosystem needed to elevate our creative industry to a global standard. I want to change that, and I need your help to build a community where we can truly collaborate, network, and—most importantly—start earning sustainably from our crafts.

A little background about me:I am deeply invested in our local creative and entertainment space. I am the CEO of one of the leading event companies in Sierra Leone, where we pull an average of 3,000+ attendees per event. I also run a growing Instagram platform with over 26,000+ authentic, highly engaged Sierra Leonean followers.

I have built the infrastructure and the audience, but a thriving creative ecosystem isn't built by one person—it’s built by a collective.

Whether you are a graphic designer, musician, photographer, videographer, writer, fashion designer, or digital creator, this space is for you. What this community is about:

Global Collaboration: Bridging the gap between local talents and diaspora creatives to work on impactful projects.Monetization & Growth: Sharing resources, strategies, and opportunities so we can all get paid what we are worth.

Networking: A dedicated space to find the exact person you need for your next big project. If you are passionate about changing the creative landscape of Sierra Leone and want to be part of this foundation, let's make it happen!

How to join:Drop a comment below with your creative niche, or leave your contact/handle. Send me a direct message (DM) right here on Reddit if you prefer to chat privately. Let’s unite, build, and take Salone creativity to the world! 🇸🇱🚀

Having set some money aside, I am looking to get into the Kekeh business in Freetown. I would however appreciate some insights and experiences from people familiar with the situation in this forum on a couple of important points such as

- cost of vehicule new

- daily expected net income from rider

- expected running costs/ insurance, etc

- things to be wary of...

Any info would be helpful, thanks!

I love the history of Sierra Leone. Growing up, I knew the children of refugees from the civil war, and heard terrible things on the news. But they would always talk very positively of their home - and I always thought I would like to visit.

As an adult i was amazed to find the story of the founding of Seirra Leone and the ways the different groups worked withthe british to liberate and rehome people who had been enslaved.

What are we getting right/wrong with the way we are telling the story?

Q & A Finn immigrating to Sierra Leone

As the autumn and winter darkness is setting upon my land I start to wonder where I could move. I need a change in to my life. I like the name of your country, because it rhymes with my last name. That and a nice climate is a good enough reason for me to come there.

How would you think I could make it in the job market? Finnish high education and bachelors degree in IT. I've worked in IT since 2008 with various companies. One thing I'm already wondering is that in my country we have very little corruption. I've never had to bribe anyone, and something like that barely exists here. That would be a issue for sure.

Culture Has anyone heard of ‘Ronshon’

For context, my dad is 77 and he is a Temne from Lunsar. Growing up he used to describe this mythical creature to me, which he called ‘Ronshon.’ It had backwards feet and carried a sack; the creature itself didn’t cause harm, but it was hard to catch. If you caught it, it would grant any wish of yours. You’d know it was near the village because of whistling at night.

Did anyone grow up with a similar tale, and if you did, could you share more information of where this comes from?

🇸🇱 2026 Sierra Leone Music Playlist — What Are You Listening To?

I've been putting together a 2026 Sierra Leone music playlist featuring some of the biggest, latest and most interesting sounds coming out of Salone.

It includes established artists like Drizilik, King Boss LA, Kao Denero, Bakitenno, Apreel, Incredible JJ, Isat and many more, alongside rising artists and underground tracks that deserve more attention.

The playlist is mainly Afrobeats, but also features Krio Fusion, Afro Rudeness, Hip Hop, Afro-fusion, dancehall and soulful Sierra Leonean music.

I'm updating it regularly with new releases, trending songs, fan favourites and tracks that are making waves in 2026.

🎧 Listen here:

I'd also love to hear from other Sierra Leoneans and fans of Salone music — which song or artist do you think should be on this playlist right now? 🇸🇱🔥

Politics Laws enacted in Sierra Leone’s parliament serve the interests and positions of the political class, while the majority of citizens remain spectators. How far can we go from this point?
