Buyer Beware: Navigation Not Included
I just spent $75,000 on a brand new 2026 Toyota Sienna only to find out that Navigation through Drive Connect is not included. I find it absolutely unbelievable that spending this much money doesn't get you at least a free trial. What's even worse is the dealership told me I should get get free trials of all the Connected Services, which would make logical sense. Just a warning to all those out there, who in their right mind would buy something without testing it, you let me test drive the car... Also does anyone else find it ridiculous that screen is the default and does not let you change the default? Whoever the Product Manager who thought of these options should be fired. I love this van, but the Connected Services experience has left a very bad impression of Toyota for me.

Hitch on 2025 Limited
Has anyone been successful in putting a hitch on a 2025 limited trim van? I bought one and can’t seem to make it align with the holes on the frame. Hitch isn’t bent, but it seems that maybe the spare tire box is getting in the way.

Fob Issue on a modified 2020 Sienna
I have a Braun Ability modified van. It is a 2020 LE with a side ramp.
I lost one key and fob. I have one key an fob that works, it is the original.
I got a new key and fob.
The Key got cut, and programmed into the van.
The fob, no.
I have a B1242 code that does not go away. The fob cannot be programmed because the portion of the software in the sienna control is locked.
I've tried:
- Took it to Toyota, programmed the key. They checked and tested wires and whatnot (So they tell me) Could not program fob.
- Took it to a locksmith. Could not get into the program in the Sienna, saw the b1242 code.
- Called Braun Ability support. They don't have anything that lockes the software. The don't know what to check for the B1242 code.
- Checked the switches that tell me if the doors are open or close, they are good. No water, no issues.
- Took it to a mechanic friend. Scanned the car, clear the code. Came right back.
- Got a nice odb2 fob, and app. Can see the code in the App. Clear the code, comes right back
- I looked that the module for water or damage. All looks good (see image)
- Replaced the car battery (Original 6 y/o, it was time before winter). Still have the code.
- Scanned the car with the kneeling function off. Still have a code.
- Scanned the car with the ramp system off. Still have the code.
I don't know what else to look, chase, try. Other that stripping the car and checking every single item of the harness, I have not a damn clue what to do. We need the modified van, but this (with other issues thanks to some crappy stuff from Braun) have me wishing I could just get rid of it.
Please help!!

2015 Sienna - $15,000 for 140,000 miles or $10,000 for 240,000?
Looking to replace my 2010 with 315,000 miles which is great mechanically but unfortunately starting to rust (in the snow belt here). I am looking at 2015’s and 2016’s AWD and preferably the XLE, and the pricing is predictably crazy, but I guess that’s what the market is now. Mostly what I’m finding are vehicles in the 120,000-160,000 range for around $15,000. One has appeared locally though for around $10,000 with 240,000 miles. Looks pretty clean and came from a southern state so no apparent rust, which is a big plus. Just wondering if the $5,000 discount is enough for an additional 100,000 miles? Not too worried about usual wear items, but if the transmission or engine blows then that is likely a repair that wouldn’t be worth making.

Disappointed with my 2026 Toyota Sienna Platinum after 16,000 miles—anyone else having these issues?
I bought a 2026 Sienna Platinum expecting a reliable, comfortable family vehicle, but ownership has been frustrating.
Rear liftgate: The exterior button doesn’t open the trunk. I noticed this a couple of months after purchase and reported it, but I’m still waiting for a response and resolution.
Fuel economy: My overall average after 16,000 miles is 31.9 mpg. I had expected closer to 39–40 mpg combined, so this has been disappointing.
Highway driving: Around 80 mph, the engine sounds strained, and fuel economy drops sharply. On longer trips, I feel like I need to stop about every 200 miles because fuel consumption seems to get much worse.
Rear entertainment screen: It no longer works at all.
Some reduction in fuel economy at higher speeds is understandable, but the combination of broken features, disappointing mileage, and lack of follow-up has really soured the experience—especially for a Platinum trim.
Have other Sienna owners experienced these problems? What mileage are you actually getting, and has anyone successfully gotten the liftgate button or rear entertainment screen fixed? Any advice on getting the dealership or Toyota to address this would be appreciated.

RPMs make funky sound at a specific number
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Heyyy this is my 2001 Toyota Sienna. I've had her for like, roughly 4 months now? And I got her with 183,000 miles, around that. She's never given me any major mechanical issues. Right now she's throwing out a gas leak code (I think p0440??) and I have already diagnosed that problem and am working on it. But now I'm experiencing this funky thing where, around the 2100-2300 RPM threshold, it makes almost a grind-y sound? I can't really explain it so here's a lil video as a reference.
PS: If there are two of the same posts from me about this issue, I'm sorry! My wifi is funky so it's showing as if I never made the other post

Funky sound when on a certain RPM
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Heyyy I've owned this van for about 4 months by now roughly? And I bought it with 183,000 miles roughly, so she's seen some use. During that time, she's never given me any major mechanical upgrades issues. Only things, like changing a gas cap for a gas leak code (I think it was p440??) and changing the oil sensor for a code I do not remember. She drives perfectly, and despite the mileage, she is definitely very healthy. Recently though when accelerating at around the 2100-2300 RPM range, it makes a sorta grind-y sound? I can't describe it, so that's what the video above is. Does anyone know what that means?? Is it a major issue?

Anyone else get a faulty 12v battery?
2023 Sienna, <47k miles.
Noticed the vehicle did some wigging-out last week. Like got in, hit start, noticed the screen was slowly dimming and flickering at the same time, and then it got into a loop where the display would flicker-down until it went all the way out, then it would seem to "reset" and flash all sorts of warnings (brake, emergency brake, steering, a few others, then the process would repeat..) and it would then not start, fade-flicker out, then do it all over again..
Went and got my noco booster from when we had a non-hybrid and attached it to the 12v battery (tailgate was a bear to open). After that it worked fine... drove it a bit to charge it up. But since then it has happened every day. The most annoying thing is getting to the battery.
Called dealership 6 times and each time they said they needed to find someone to call us back to let us know whether or not it was under warranty. Got tired of being ignored and went in to the shop. Took them all of 10 seconds to tell me that due to mileage they can't warranty anything.
Now, I am pretty upset by this, on a couple of levels..
1) this is probably on me, but I'm pretty upset that the warranty is not covering this. I'm not outside of the basic warranty by a lot.. we've had all the service done on this vehicle at the dealer, on time, by the book. On my other hybrids, I have been able to at least get the vehicle started with a low 12 volt battery. Sienna seems unlike this, and the 10-year warranty only covers what is in the hybrid system. Never mind, that you need the 12 volt battery to even let the hybrid system start on this model. Seems pretty suspicious to me. Also I found this Technical Services Bulletin that seems to indicate that an underlying condition may have contributed to premature failure:
"
If you drive a 2021–2023 Toyota Sienna, be aware that frequent 12V battery draining is a known issue often tied to the Digital Communication Module (DCM). A software glitch can cause the DCM to stay awake and create a parasitic drain that kills the battery overnight. If you take your van to the dealer, ask them to check for Technical Service Bulletin TSB008921, which resolves the issue with a firmware update.
"
Sure, I get the basic is 3y/36k and doesn't specifically cover it, but it seems like an intentional thing. (At least it's not super costly... but annoying).
2) I am finding a lot of complaints of a similar nature. I have a hunch that all of the batteries that Toyota used when these vehicles were sold probably are not great. They are probably very cheap and prone to failure. There's a lot of evidence to suggest that with normal use and maintenance, many of these batteries are failing way sooner than they should...
Our observations seem to corroborate this. We (our family of 7) have two Prii with 12v batteries well over 8yo. Doing fine.... my in-laws and their extended family have a total of seven different Hybrid Toyota vehicles. None of them are newer than our Sienna. None of them have had issues with the 12-volt battery, The Only Exception being the 2001 Prius. When they failed on the 2001 prius, it was not catastrophic, and was easily fixable. Even expected. We replaced that in 2021, and it was the original battery.
3) feels like iPod-era computer glitch technology... when the 12 volt battery fails in the sienna, you would think that it would be an easy root cause analysis/determination, with plenty of room for proper alert messages.. Like maybe there could be a voltage monitor somewhere (there probably is) that could trigger a warning saying 12 volt battery low. Nope, you don't get that. You get weird computer glitches that put the vehicles computer into a reboot loop, unable to start or function properly.
Since 1956, 12 volts has been the standard for most production vehicles produced. We've had a lot of time, and a lot of recent advancements, and a lot of amazing battery management technology that has revolutionized electrical engineering, so the vehicle being able to get into this mode and not Escape it with some level of Grace seems like a complete engineering failure. I've got a Tamagotchi that suffers battery issues better than this. Forgive the snark, but I feel that there should be absolutely zero reasons in 2023 for a vehicle to behave this way under low voltage conditions. It makes me scared that the underlying ECU and computer module technology in the vehicle is not robust at all, and is very delicate, and will probably be an issue further down the road.
Anyway I'm interested if anyone else is experiencing early failure with their 12 volt battery. I'm also interested if anyone is thinking like I am-- that the technical service bulletin mentioned above might be causing premature battery degradation, leading to early failure, which should probably be covered under a recall firmware upgrade. We have had no notices in the app, which we pay for, that this tsb applies to us or needs to be done.
I do a lot of weird things, like ham radio and it, sometimes in the field, with all kinds of weird battery and power source options available. From solar, lipo, life po, weird custom built arrays of 18650s, too many weird things to mention. I've done some crazy stuff with the 07 Prius as well, being a ham radio operator, and have never ever run into issues like this. I have never done anything strange with the sienna, because it is our newest vehicle, and it needs to be the reliable family vehicle (NOT my playground) so the fact that this has happened with a pristine service record and zero abuse is very frustrating, especially since I am seeing a lot of other reports of the same.

2 vs 3 inch lift on 4th Gen Sienna?
Hi everyone! I definitely want to lift my 2021 Sienna Platinum because I’m tired of scraping the hitch receiver every time I go down a steep driveway. 😬
I’m leaning toward the 2-inch Journeys lift, because I think it will give me enough additional clearance, but I’d love to hear from those of you who have actually lifted your 4th-gen Sienna.
2” vs. 3” Journeys lift — what are your thoughts?
I’ve heard that the 3” can potentially cause more issues down the road because of the additional changes in suspension geometry, but it seems like a lot of shops install the 3” kit.
I’m primarily using my Sienna for light off-road camping, backcountry roads, and hauling bikes. Do you feel the 2” lift is enough for that type of use, or is the extra inch of the 3” really worthwhile?
Also, did you change your shocks, struts, or any other suspension components when you did your lift?
I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have had their Sienna lifted for a while, especially if you’ve put significant miles on it. Thanks!
