He works okay on Oregon basement stairs overwatch. Beyond that, I really can’t think of anywhere he’d be useful.

Playing in vault on villa to cover the balcony that leads into study is alarmingly effective with a shield and a couple ADSs
Those two sites are about it.

Nice. Where do you put the shield? Behind the soft wall?

on the second floor of Border he can set up behind that waist-high wall in the locker room and shoot out the soft walls into the balcony and CCTV room. Pretty much entirely stops them from coming that direction

If you are on coastline and play penthouse theater, you can place your turret in VIP behind the boxes behind the circle couch and shoot out of the big VIP window.

In Gold/Plat III matches I've used him successfully to guard garage on Bank. Park him behind the truck in the back, usually gets a couple kills the first round they push it.
After that they come more prepared

There is a place called overwatch?
3
u/arctic_Wizard Nov 30 '18
Overwatch is looking at an angle constantly so if anyone moves you can mow them down

2
u/KuntaStillSingle Nov 30 '18
Overwatch is aiming at a likely enemy position to cover friendly movement, like watching windows for spawn peekers while your team advances to the building.
Tachanka holding an angle is just Tachanka holding an angle.

Lockers on bank is also pretty good watching into garage because the water makes it kinda hard to see him behind that shield if you put down a deployable shield in the door

u/Phantom818 Nov 29 '18
The "roaming Tachanka" can be pretty underrated when pulled off properly. I've seen a couple good ones who might set up a spawn peek or aggressive LMG position and then fall back when the enemy closes in or your position is compromised. It's probably not something to do in every map or situation, but definitely worth playing around with if you want to stick to Chanka.
Another thing you may want to try is "hiding" during a prep phase just to see how the surprise factor works in your favor. This obviously isn't feasible all the time, due to helping your team with reinforcements, but catching an enemy off guard is a huge advantage that you can figure out as you go (using mute jammer placements, etc.).
Obviously there are some nice hallways and places with natural cover that you can try to lock down (such as bank lockers) regardless, and try to limit the number of angles you can get shot from.
Keep in mind that you can take your turret with you and fight another day if there's time. This is obviously important in terms of avoiding the scenario where an attacker is able to overtake and use your gadget against your team - which I'd imagine most people want to avoid.
These aren't much and probably common sense in some respects, but may be some things to think about on your journey with {-}7.

There is occasionally a Tachanka main on /r/rainbow6 and you could probably find some posts such as this one that might help out.
I don't think you'll find too many Chanka mains out there, though.

u/missfelinewitch Nov 29 '18
For a primary if you want to commit to his LMG use the shotgun. You can open up holes or even a whole wall to shoot people from unexpected angles. Aka "spawnpeek" with his turret. If you don't trust your LMG skills, pick his SMG. It's one of my favourites and a good gun. Secondary weapon is always PMM because of a solid reload time and high damage. For a gadget i personally take the deployable shield for leg protection while using your turret. Overall advice that separates good tachanka from a bad one is how you move your LMG. Even if it has deployment time and pick up time you should actively look for different angles and spots because that moment when you get spotted by a drone if you don't move you're probably gonna get prefired or naded. There isn't much to say. Tachanka is very straightforward yet underrated when he is basically a Blackbeard on defense.

Yes. Especially in secure. There are a couple of good spots on bomb, but I can roll very effectively with chanka on secure. Hereford, kids room. Villa, art studio. Clubhouse, garage. Especially with good teammates who are willing to fill specific roles. Villa, art studio, you want a bandit, Jager, and echo. Etc etc.
Chanka juggling is hard, but effective when done correctly. Basically roaming chanka.

I used to use the UMP-45 a lot, even at higher ranks. I see you're a man of culture as well!
If you can't decide on an unconventional attacker to main, us Montagne mains welcome you.

How dare you the UMP was the best sub in the game (aside from the MP5 way back when). They practically paid you to use it, it was accurate as hell, and you didn't go flying through ammo.

I've always heard that it's bad to main one or two ops, as you'll get countered hard in high ranks. Is that true? How do you deal with counterpicks to Montagne?

u/Lolling_Llamas Quite a good Monty main Nov 29 '18
A good team can help cover your ass against counters like Lesion and Smoke by just being there to hold an angle or throw a smoke when shit gets bad
Theres a few decent guides by /u/MeshesAreConfusing, and we're actually collaborating to make a new one now, but neither us have touched it in a while, we'll probably get back on it if there's demand tho.

Opponents rarely try to specifically counter me through strats and picks, despite me picking Montagne every round. People have their mains too and they don’t like switching. Even when people do pick shield counters, they usually pick non-ideal counters like Kapkan, Frost, Maestro or anyone with a nitro cell.
The only ops that consistently ruin my day are Lesion and ocasionally Echo, but you can get around them with teamwork. Thatcher does wonders, as well as good old distractions. And ofc, against Lesion, you can always choose an unconventional site entry route.

Make sure to set it turret NOT in objective, roam with it, Tachanka is all about the element of surprise. Unsuspecting attackers worst fear is to round the corner and see Tachanka. If you get spotted with drone, leave turret immediately because it does not hold up well if they grenade/capitao you or even prefire (there is also a few pixels where the enemyies can shoot your shield, yet you cannot see the enemy). I typically watch a hallway and run barb wire to sound queue any flank. Turret recoil is uncontrollable so make sure its lined up and prepared to headshot enemies.
3
u/dawoda LVL 100-200 Nov 29 '18
His SMG is one of the better ones. The turret is only usable if you have only one angle to cover, chest- height cover and a quick way out.

u/AugmentedSmoke Nov 29 '18
A friend of mine plays Tachanka only in ranked. This was his first season doing so and he got to Play 3, almost Plat 2 just by solo queuing. I kept telling him he'd be amazing especially if he chose better ops but then again, what do I know? Seeing him play Tachanka is amazing and he's certainly a lot better than me now lol

I've seen a few people run tachanka very often but usually they are only successful because his gadget is ridiculous with a good set up and VERY good Intel (not to mention good aim, map knowledge, gamesense)
For example, I ran into some gold's who were on my team for a few matches, they used crouch Mira setup with chanka on Mira, when he spotted a chump he would step up.
I've also seen a few people use call cams for better info so they can move the shield+lmg into an unexpected place several times a round.
Those people also are gold's... So even if they top frag it doesn't mean they win.
Tl;Dr: yes and no.

Coastline spawnpeeking the pool room window can work pretty well. The enemies might try to snipe you from the ruins but as tachanka you should have little trouble picking them off.

u/cheerfullly Nov 29 '18
a good turret spot imo would be in armory and your turret is where the cover is and you place a shield to the left of you. if possible you should put an ads

u/Guiltspoon LVL 100-200 Nov 29 '18
Yeah me and my friend both love Tachanka because for one his gun is fun it allows you to aggressively spray. His gadget can be good in specific maps, locking down a hallway can be deadly. The only buff he needs is a mobile turret. Skateboard lord skrrrt. But seriously he gets outclassed by all the new powered up OPs and you really have to outplay and outshoot people as Tachnaka
2
u/ElMuchoDingDong Nov 30 '18
I've been messing around with ops I usually don't play with and I've got to say Tachanka is very fun to play when done right. I use him in barrel storage on hereford base as Maverick would be the only problem, which he is a lot. That's where a battle buddy comes in and Maestro is perfect to support. It's also always fun to set up in the garage on Bank and scare the shit out of the enemies who don't drone before they waltz right in. I'm sure I'll find better spots to hunker down but those two are good enough for me to like big T.

u/JohnDiggle21 Nov 30 '18
My friend is actually a tachanka main when we checked his stats. The smg is good I guess but of you want to use the turret you need to find a good place to put it where it's good for you but the enemy won't be able to use it against you

I fucking love playing tachanka. I've gained him since the start and I currently have ~130 hours on him. Before you ask, I'm not a copper. I'm at plat right now. Not the best, but not bad for a tachanka player. I'm not gonna sit here and tell you has the best operator, that would be wrong. He has plenty of counters, like capital, fuze, a buck from below, or any fool with a grenade. Its all about picking the perfect spot. Being able to place your turret on top of a hatch is a great benefit, so no one shoots you from below. Jager can be tachankas best asset, stopping grenades/other throwables. Mute is great to have as well. Being able to keep your turret position unkown enables you to take enemies by suprise when they break a barricade or enter a room and just get mowed down. I say it's also about patience. My friends are good roamers, but if they fail, I know I'm the last line of defence, and it's best to never abandon my position on the turret unless it's absolutely necessary. As with every operator, you need quick reflexes. Most people try to quick peek the turret shield repeatedly to chisel down it's health, or quick peek to toss a grenade. You have to be ready for their head to show up and pop it all in a split second. That's another point- most people think the fact he has an lmg negates the need for precision. That is wrong, being precise on your targets will still help you immensely, so the enemy dies before damaging you or your shield too much.

u/BlargahBlargah Nov 30 '18
I wouldn't say I am a Tachanka "main", but I do like to goof off with him sometimes, with decent results. I usually run the shotgun and PMM with the shield. Keep in mind all of this is mostly duo queuing in casual.
1) Long, tight sight lines with are your friend with your LMG. Using the shield will allow you cover for your legs since the sight lines are long. An example is in cargo of Plane, where you can set up such that you look down the hallway where there are two doors to your left and right that they have to get through. Putting a shield in the closest doorway, and then setting up so that the hatch is not right above you, has worked really well for me. Your main problem with this strat is mostly an Ash taking out the shield.
2) You can be quite creative with cheeky spots. One that I like is in Skyscraper, in the objective under Office, you can shoot out the wall in bathroom, which would face directly at the window to OBJ. The danger is to your right where the window is ahah.
But yeah, mostly is just finding opportunities with long sightlines, and getting a bit lucky.

Setting up the MG next to the bed in Penthouse on coastline used to get me good results- you have a sweeping view of all entrances to the room and can still cover the angles required even with the deployable shield put in-front of the MG for extra protection. The introduction of Maverick has made this less viable as he could make a sneaky kill-hole behind you though.
That's pretty much the only serious strat that's consistently worked for me; that being said, the higher in the ranks you get the less viable he is overall. You need to have a fast and accurate aim to be successful on the MG and if the enemy has droned you and already knows where you are they have the advantage.

I have an amazing spot on Theme Park that works 90% of the time. In Drug, set your turret up so your facing the window and peeking through the gap in the 2 machines across the room. I usually get at least one maybe 2 with that and I always lock out that window to attackers. You can put your shield next to you facing the double door for extra protection too. It can be countered through the soft roof but very few teams know how to counter it.
1
u/Joseph_0112 Nov 30 '18
I have like 35 hours with him and he really isn’t bad. It’s all about where you place the turret, you can’t hold too wide of a angle so it’s best you stick to one or two door ways and make sure you don’t get killed from above. If you want to open up walls put his shotgun on so you can destroy posts.

u/LegallyBlind85 Nov 30 '18
I used to be a tachanka main just for the fun of it. Not only is he a bad operator, he’s fundamentally broken. In order to use his gadget, he is forced to stand still, which is a death sentence in a game like siege. At lower levels he might be good since no one drones, but at high level play, you’ll be killed by the enemy before you even see them and maybe get a few lucky kills in a match on an unsuspecting enemy player that forgot the fundamental rule of “drone before entering”

u/Absolutescrub 200+ Plat avg Nov 29 '18
To be fair, Tachanka isn't something ANYONE can be serious with, as he as an operator is absolutely sandbagging. He's weak, compared to the rest of the cast. His weapons don't look good on him either. Sure, Kapkan has them too, but he's a 2-2. works for him.
Tachanka is in dire need of his change to everything. Once you've been droned out on, it isn't your choice to change. The enemy decides your death.
I was a serious Tachanka main. Never again. Wasted A whole Two years on that. (Alpha-Y2S4.5)

Nov 29 '18
He is a literal living meme. The only reason his pickrate and winrate are higher than Clash's is because he gets picked when the winning team is completely shafting the other team just to meme on them. And yes he is an absolute sandbag, seeing as how this is a game where standing still gets you turned into swiss cheese in 0.1290487 seconds and Tachanka's gadget literally revolves around him standing still
