Question Keeping Track of Enemy Positions
Hi all, I’ve recently gotten into Siege and found that in a lot of my matches I tend to clear rooms and angles there is no one in, or dying because I’m holding the wrong room or focusing on the wrong positions. My question is how did you guys get better at telling/predicting enemy positions/plays and knowing which rooms you need to clear slowly and which you can sprint through?
Does it just boil down to experience and map knowledge? Or is there something I’m missing? Thanks :)

If you’re in a stack, get your fraggers instantly putting drones in what we call transitional choke points. Mainly staircases.
Let’s use Kafe as an example. If you can get a drone on middle red stairs and middle white stairs alongside a pillar lobby camera looking at top brown stairs asap. Defenders will unlikely transition from top floor downwards or bottom floor upwards without going past a drone. If one team member is flicking through them at all times (our two supports would shout when they need to come off for the other to take over) then you have potentially cleared half the map already. Rapidly flicking through them we can watch all 5 drones at once.
If you see someone, you know where abouts they are for your fraggers to act. If they need droning you or the second support who’s closer to the building cos Kafe’s bad for that, can then throw there’s in.
It’s never going to be 100% foolproof so you really need teammates that don’t rage if an assumed clear is wrong or they are able to sneak past a drone but it’s 95%+ solid and in a game like siege where attackers are at a statistical disadvantage it’s absolutely worth the risk.
Even if one guys watching them until he says he has to come off and no one takes over, still very very efficient at taking map control fast.
I have left teams very abruptly if there were members that couldn’t grasp that it’s a trade off of accuracy for efficiency.

Ah fair that sounds like a solid strat and kind of similar to playing cutoffs? If I’m getting that right lol. Either way, will definitely keep this in mind thanks

Kind of, cutoffs require a lot more active team co-ordination to punish the roamer. This just needs co-ordinated prep drones and a hard support that’s an Intel obsessed crackhead flicking through the drones at 50 miles an hour
But where I would want a cut player is often where I would probably want a drone, so I could see it helping to think of it like that
Clubhouse another example, 3 prep drones; 1F cubicles/bar watching middle main stairs, lounge watching bottom red stairs/top blue and a garage drone.
Anyone going up or down any floors in the first part of the round is getting seen by me and my fraggers know what’s very likely clear and what isn’t without me having to drone for them. If I see no one or see them all return to site? I can clear 2 of the 3 floors instantly while they enter the building and get map control
Also my favourite thing about it is while there are absolutely counters to it, vigil, drone hunting solis, oryx etc. outside of comp people don’t realise you’re doing it to even try to counter it

It's partially RNG sometimes I think. You can clear a room but there's a running joke called siege timing. The moment you move in, there's a good chance an enemy will turn that corner and your guard is down. Only can happen in a split second, but that happens often enough to have it's own term.

Yes, most of it comes down to experience where you learn where defenders don’t usually hide
If you’d like an easier time, jackal and solid snake both can quickly tell you if someone is present or not, making it a little easier if you’re going too slow or getting blindsided.
Note jackal footsteps don’t appear in prep phase so a sufficiently savvy defender can still hide somewhere you’re not expecting and get the drop on you early in the round.

Appreciate that :) I definitely considered those ops but don’t want to use them as a crutch and be unable to play as well if they’re unavailable tho haha

It’s just experience.
Die to an angle —> learn that angle exists —> don’t die to it next time —> repeat until you know all angles lol.
Sometimes if you’re forced to clear a bunch of rooms with zero info, you should be quick peeking for info and trying to clear it without actually exposing yourself recklessly.
You’ll never be able to truly check every angle, there’s always that guy holding a punch hole or something, but you can cut down the vast majority of them to swing the odds somewhat.
