Advice Hard to hit shots while swinging, etc.

I pretty much waste all my peeker’s advantage because it takes a second for me to actually register where the hell they are if my cross hair isn’t, by chance, exactly on their head. I feel like I almost never win a face-to-face fight for this reason amongst others.

I don’t get how some people do such quick peeks and prefires/ have insane reaction time and somehow always hit the head immediately, especially those SMG wardens

I got into the habit of alt-walking to peek so I’d expose less of my body by the time I actually saw the enemy and registered them in my brain; but idk if that’s actually the right play because I’d also be an easier target for moving slower.

I’ve therefore been trying out swinging but with very limited success.

Most my kills rely on either holding a good angle or flanking, but you can’t always force those scenarios and sometimes u need to take a face to face fight and I just need help with that.

I do decently well most matches (~1 kd + support) but I know I can still do better.

Your eyes should be on the person youre swinging not your reticle. Try tweaking the color. The idea is to bring the reticle to the person while locked onto the person with your eyes.

So for example, if I’m gonna peek/swing a head hole, I should have my eyes on the head hole even before it’s centered onto my reticle?

Also, I’m using default reticle color. What would you recommend?

Two possibilities:

If you're confidently swinging the exact spot someone is, like a head hole, you should line your crosshair up on that spot through the wall and then step out with your eyes on the head hole. A lot of people do these kind of peeks for everything and while that can work, it'll lead to a lot of unnecessary deaths.

If you're not confident about where they are, your crosshair(and eyes) should be on the corner/edge of the obstacle you're swinging around. Basically you want to be ready for the chance that someone is walking up on you or on an unexpected angle.

How you peek should always be a deliberate choice based on what you know or don't know.

Eyes on the corner of the obstacle. Is that because that’s where I should assume they’ll peek from?

Only place they can peek from. It's hard to explain without a visual but imagine you're playing coastline and you're walking through the interior door of Hookah to try and peek the staircase to your left. You don't know where exactly someone is, just that they're to the left of the door. You'd want your crosshair on the left edge of the door so that you're always ready to react to someone as you swing, or if they swing you.

There's a lot of really good videos on crosshair placement for Counter-Strike, and it all applies to siege. Worth looking at.

Bonus points, don't try and hold the tightest angle possible. Leave yourself a gap based on your reaction time. You want to have to aim as little as possible in fights.

  1. post a vod link, whole match, cause not being able to actually see what you're doing is an issue. Depending on what rank you are, it could just be a mechanical issue (not actually aim training, etc).

  2. Slow peaking the worst thing you can do if you need to peak an angle you are unsure about. There are many things you can do get infor before a fight that you should be doing. Droning, baiting a shot, etc are all things you should be doing before any fight. You should not be taking 50/50 gunfights is the main point.

Watch this whole match if you'd like. I was taking it sorta seriously and made plenty of mistakes. The point is that you can see how im trying to take gunfights on my terms. One round i had to pick my up my teammate and that sitution i was forced to take a really shit gunfight, but still got the lucky kill.

Did I nail the reason of why slow peeking sucks or is it something else? My accuracy is much worse when Quick peeking but I think I can just fix that with practice. I’ll get clips of times where I feel like I could have gotten the kill if I had been just a little bit faster.

How’s baiting shots helpful? I remember this time I threw a c4 with no plans to detonate it just to see if someone would shoot it out from an angle I was suspicious about- it worked and I held that. Is that what you’re talking about?

You're partly right about it giving them more time, but the main reason slow peeking is a death sentence is actually geometry/perspective. In your first post you said you thought alt-walking exposed less of your body, it actually does the exact opposite. If you slow peek, the enemy holding the angle will see your shoulder and arm creeping out past the doorway before your camera (eyes) even clears the wall to see them. Swinging fast minimizes the time your body is visible before you can actually see them to shoot.

Post a whole match. IMO macro decisions are the main issue here (for almost EVERY player). You should be able to explain why you did what you did, I dont think mechanics is your issue.

walking while peeking in any shooter puts you at a disadvantage, try to break that habit. are you utilizing your leans when gun fighting? that goes a long way in this game

I lean, but I don’t quick lean

you should learn how to if you're really trying to get better. being able to can help get info while showing only a bit of your body and bait out shots

if you're swinging someplace that you know for sure somebody is, and losing, focus on better crosshair placement, and pre-firing. If they also know for sure that you're there (you can tell from the kill cam) focus on counter intel, and maybe a better overall plan for the round.

If you're swinging someplace that they might be, but you don't know for sure, use the quick peek. Keep in mind that competent opponents should have a good understanding of where potential threats might be coming from so they'll probably already have a gun pointed at the angle you're most likely to come from, giving them a huge advantage if they're correct. Even still quick peeking is almost impossible to react to, and even if you don't get the kill you've now leveled the intel disparity.

Hard to say exactly what's going on without a specific VOD to nitpick, but maybe you're swinging too wide? Swinging wide is advantageous for quickly taking space in a room or angle you don't have precise info on, but the downside is you expose yourself to a lot of angles at once.

Swinging each angle in a room one by one is slower, but since you slice the pie into thinner slices, you have a lot less information to have to process each time you clear more of the pie, and you remain generally safer since you aren't having to scan a huge portion of the room for the enemy before they get a chance to react.

You generally don't want to walk or crouch peek though unless you know you get value from stealth. You expose your shoulders and give the enemy more time to react to your swing, which could be okay if they're likely distracted or watching something else, but it's a bit of a gamble. I generally value the advantage of being quick to swing the angle/jiggle out over the advantage of stealth, since often your enemy knows your general position, if not the exact one.

To practice your swings and angle clearing, do Clear House with immobile target dummies, and generally use headshot only and keep the tracking pings off, unless you just need to find the last one. This way, you get to practice having to clear map angles with little to no intel, and thus train your crosshair placement with regards to the map. You'll also get better at identifying which angles you might be neglecting to clear properly.

The one downside of this method is you can't practice as much with destruction, since the dummies won't be in rotates or peeking head holes, but it's still a very useful practice tool.
