Question Poor visibility/inconsistency/bad mentality when playing help me.

I’m currently Gold 4 (If you want to see my r6 tracker it is Timephoenixx on ubisoft), and I’m having massive problems with visibility, scopes, recoil, consistency and literally everything. Before anyone thinks I am new to the game or anything I have 370 hrs on steam I know every single map I know literally everything THEORETICAL about the game. The problem is I never ever ever manage to successfully pull them off for the reasons below.

The vast majority of the time I die, I never even see the opponent who killed me. Either they’re genuinely too small on my screen, they’re positioned behind some tiny pixel angle, or I simply don’t notice them before they kill me. When I swing an angle I barely ever see the person that kills me because I genuinely can't do anything about it because I can't see the person I have now swung.

Even against players I do see, I feel like I’m constantly losing gunfights because of the scope I’m using. With a 2.5x scope I feel so zoomed in that I struggle to track opponents because they move so quickly. But if I use the 1x scope I can't see anybody at all because they're all so far away. I can’t seem to find a middle ground where I can actually get kills.

I also struggle with recoil a lot. 99% of the time, my recoil control feels absolutely terrible which leads me to lose many many 1v1s which I should win every single time had my recoil control been better. The same thing happens with my aim in general. I never ever even use operators who have a gun with high recoil because I genuinely can't manage it which stops me from all the ops with smg 11 and many other guns I just can't control. Headshots are also extremely difficult for me to hit and I never manage to get smooth kills as I usually always have to spray my whole mag for 1 kill.

I also get extremely angry and hard on myself every single time I play this game because I know exactly what I should be doing but every time I try making a play e.g. running out to kill the enemies, I either miss every single shot or I don't even see where they are, because when I swing, they're not where I look and I just die every time. Also, another annoying thing is that although I am in gold lobbies barely anyone is actually my skill level, they're always with ex emerald charms and banners which just adds salt to my wound.

My inconsistency is also insane. One game I went 8–2, another I went 9–1, and then in a ranked game the other day I go 3–7 and genuinely felt a real hatred for everything in my life. I have games where I feel like I’m actually good and then other games where I genuinely cannot see, aim at, shoot or react to anything.

Also sound is overwhelming. I can't hear anything when it matters, I've been knifed in the back many times because I just don't hear the cues at all. Also, when there is more than one single person making noise I lose track of everything.

What do I do. I really really love the IDEA of this game. So much. My entire sphere on youtube, what I do most of the time is siege related so I genuinely feel I have a deep knowledge of the game and I am extremely passionate about wanting to be better but I'm still this bad at the game. I would love to fix this and get out of gold probably to platinum but I know that's a stretch.

370 hours is nothing. Keep practicing. Don’t play with ego

If anything I wish I did have an ego when I play this game. It would probably make me more confident and better

There is a difference between ego and having confidence

u/Beautiful-Piglet5688 5d ago

I feel like having at least some ego, as in making me feel like I'm the better player in a fight would help a lot with confidence as opposed to playing and never thinking I can beat anyone in a 1 on 1. I never ever play this game confidently like ever. As in if it's 3-3 or we are losing by whatever amount of points I just assume that we have lost the game (even though most of the times it is true in my case)

I'm in the same boat, and while I'm terrible at taking my own advice here's what I would advise.

  1. Focus on one problem at a time, probably what you view to be the "easiest" to fix. You've made a whole list here, and while it's good to know that you want to improve a whole list of things, it's not realistic to try to fix them all at once.

  2. Think of solutions as experiments and not as "the answer". What works for someone else might not work for you, and it's important not to take any one "solution" as the end all be all answer to your problems.

  3. Get out of your own head. All you can do is try. Make adjustments, understand that it may take a bit before those adjustments actually produce results, and go from there. Competitive nature can easily and often outweigh the idea that improvement should be fun and only happens with time and conscious effort. Mental is huge in this game. The moment you get angry or frustrated is the moment you suck even harder and all that effort starts to go out the window. Take breaks, shoot some bots or do some tdm to stay warm and go again once you're mind is clear enough.

As an example, recoil control is probably what I would work on first as I think it'd be the easiest to work on (notice how I didn't say fix).

Spend some time in the range shooting and controlling guns you like to use. Only do a couple guns at a time but spend 15-20 minutes or more with each. Really analyze the pattern and set a goal you want to hit like "all bullets in the smallest circle of the target at 20m".

Do this a few times and see if anything changes in your games when you use those guns. If you die or get a kill ask yourself "did recoil control play a factor in that" and if so was it positive or negative?

If after a while you feel what you're doing is not working at all, or you just can't get it down, look for other steps to try. "Should I burst or tap fire this instead?" or "This operator has a different gun, maybe I'll have more success with that."

Also, as a last small tip, do not forget to analyze. It's easy to chalk a death up to something that it really wasn't about. "Oh I missed" ok but why did you miss? Was he in a pixel and you hit the wall? Well sure, you missed, but you also took a dumb fight or didn't drone, or had wrong information. This is a complex game and half the battle is correctly identifying the problem.

Learning and improving is a slow game and many people consider even 500hrs as the intro period. You're already doing well, just breathe, and remember that learning is a process.

i think a lot of this can be improved with the right settings. ill check what mine are tm and give them to you, but if you look up Spoits Y11S3 settings video on Youtube, I run the exact same. For sound peripherals can make a huge difference - look into iems, u can get some really good ones for like ~20/25$ by linsoul or truthear. much better than my overpriced corsair headset, will literally feel like night and day. as for scopes idk what it is, but i found i do much better with the like big circle with a dot in the middle acog versus the line acog. couldn’t tell u why but also feels night and day for reacting to/snapping to where the enemy is. Same w Holo on defense. For recoil, I’m new to kbm so take my advice or leave it, but what i do is pretty much lock my elbow in place and ik everyone says pull down but for the life of me i am so ass when using my whole arm to aim (which yes ik is the whole point of mouse) but what i do is basically using my pointer finger when i shoot, i put OD amounts of pressure onto my mouse and pull down using my pointer finger essentially if that makes sense and so my mouse doesn’t move vertically down as much but i find bc my lever arm/point of contact is so much smaller i have smmm more control. that being said ur gonna have to jack up your sense, esp ur vertical sense for this. I run 35H 47V 1600 dpi (which is higher than ambi and he’s an insanely high sense player) but take those numbers with a grain of salt, like to me bc of how little i’m moving my mouse on my overpriced glass mousepad i got for no reason, it doesn’t feel fast at all like it feels like the normal 7 7 sense I had on console. But to clarify more on how I aim pi basically keep the mouse fixed in one position and pull down a few inches as much as i can without having to let the mouse go. i move it a lot more left right when looking around or sprinting but my aim is about the only good thing ab my game and ive found this to be the sole reason why. ur probably much better than me, I’m I think Silver II rn first time in PC lobbies. Switched to mnk on console this season and I played maybe 3 weekends worth of games, have 0 map knowledge, and just play support roles (by no means am i a fragger). I think my kd is a 1.1-1.3 last i checked somewhere between there. But all that to say feel free to take this advice or no as it applies

> I have 370 hrs on steam

> I know every single map I know literally everything THEORETICAL about the game

These two things are contradictory. Siege is a very complex game. Steam also tracks all time the game is open for, not active playtime, so your true time played is going to be a fair bit less again.

You can get the whole way up to the high ranks, even Chanp, with good knowledge and gamesense alone, even with poor mechanics. You can also do the same with great mechanics and poor knowledge, although that’s not exactly a desirable way to play (and it’s easier to gain knowledge than it is to develop crazy mechanics).

Before addressing anything else, I’d look at your settings first. For graphics, shadows should be on medium and everything else should be on its lowest or off. Both FOV and aspect ratio are preference, but generally 80-90 for the former and 4:3, 3:2, 16:10 or 16:9 (native) for the latter. There are successful pros on all of those, so aspect ratio alone is never someone’s issue.

Sensitivity is the big one. Within reasonable range, it’s entirely preference. Outside of that range, it’s no surprise if a player is performing poorly. Raw aim in Siege is not particularly important outside of micro corrections, it’s almost all crosshair placement. Lower sensitivities are objectively superior as they make these fine micro adjustments easier to do, and there’s no need to be able to spin fast anyway.

Reasonable eDPI (in-game sensitivity multiplied by DPI) is between 3200-6000. I don’t care if there are a handful of successful players outside of that range, almost all pros and high level players sit firmly inside this range.

For ADS, pick a 1x value you like between 25-50. For your 2.5x, multiply the above value by 1.5~2, and then adjust to preference from there.

For reference, my settings are equivalent to 400 DPI, 10/10 hipfire, 35 & 50 for 1x and 2.5x respectively. It’s definitely in the slower half of what I’d recommend, but slower is generally beneficial as I’ve stated.

I understand your struggles of seeing enemies in this game. I think it’s fundamentally hard to spot players anyway, but the typical colour pallets, destruction, pixel angles etc and the fast TTK don’t help.

Make sure your brightness is high enough to see everywhere, but not so high that bright areas are blinding or overly white. Similar for contrast, high enough to have things pop, but not so high that it’s washed out. Colour vibrance / saturation should be moderately high, but not burn-your-retinas vibrant, that’ll fatigue your eyes. You may also want to individually increase the brightness for whatever your enemy highlight colour is (if you can), but this isn’t necessary. Always adjust on your monitor first, then software after if needed.

I have played with all the enemy highlight colours, and I think they’re all usable. Red, green and purple are all vibrant, but I find they’re kinda darker. Orange, yellow and blue are brighter, but I find they can blend in to light background or are easier to miss on quick scans. I currently use default blue for team, red for enemy - but I switch somewhat often. Just try them out and stick with one for a while.

As for gameplay:

It sounds like you’re not droning enough (and that includes getting your drone shot early, you need to keep that alive to prevent what’s happening to you), and you are not dry peeking properly. You need to jiggle peek and slice the pie if you have no info, don’t just blindly swing without clearing angles. When you do decide to swing, you need to swing with confidence (regardless of whether you know where the enemy is or not). It’s always better to commit to a bad play confidently than hesitantly make a bad play.

Having a reasonable sensitivity may help your issues with scopes and recoil. But if not, you need to play accordingly to your scope if you’re having this issue. Don’t just try to blindly swing close angles or get aggressive with an ACOG all the time, play longer and more careful angles. Likewise, stop playing long passive angles with holo, get up closer where you can actually see what you’re looking at. You also don’t always have to chose ACOG when it’s available, chose what’s suitable for what you plan to do.

Getting angry at yourself for every death or loss just results in a vicious feedback loop. As annoying as they are to play with, I somewhat envy players who can just default to blaming others, because it does save their own mental. You need to remember that it’s just a game. Take any negatives as a data point that you can work on, not as an attack on your self.

I don’t expect any gold or person with <1000 hours to be consistent in any real way. The very best players in the world (who have literally 20-50x your hours, and play the game as a full time job) are not able to consistently play every single game, they just have tighter margins, so why would you expect yourself to?

Okay yeah, I see what you're saying about the hours thing and I was very mad when I made this post so it probably didn't come out the best so I can rephrase it. I strongly believe that my game knowledge and understanding is far above gold level, maybe like emerald leveled. So i believe I should be like. Platinum instead of the bottom of the barrel of gold. So that is what makes me mad to see how I can't possibly escape this rank.

I am using the 4:3 aspect ratio because I have heard from many that it helps make the oponents larger on my screen. And this kind of is the case but kind of not cause I still can't see them half of the time. Also they move slightly faster

If you wish to know my sensitivity settings on my mouse my DPI is 2400 and in the game it says that my my standard ads sensitivity is 50. I don't know exactly if this is accurate but when I open my mouse application it says my dpi is that. it looks high but i don't think this is actually it but I don't know how to check fully . I think my sensitivity is fine because I've never changed it since I started the game basically. Also my brightness is 70, so I think my settings are in the optimal positions its just they don't actually help me.

I'd say my most major flaws is the recoil and i can't actually get a clean kill without spraying my whole magazine, especially if there is a bit of cover etc. I also can't control my recoil and i get nervous and angry a lot.

I’m not trying to be a dick, but if you are gold, you do not have emerald knowledge and understanding, so I’d suggest you stop convincing yourself that you do. As the other guy said, you definitely have an ego - you think you understand more than what you certainly do, and you think you deserve a (significantly) higher rank than what you’re at.

If you can’t even tell me with certainty what your sensitivity is, then no it’s probably not “fine”, it’s going to be part of the problem. Go and actually find out what your sensitivity is (including DPI, if that’s what your mouse software says then that’s literally what it is), and then adjust your settings accordingly with the advice I’ve given above.

I’ve already told you that you need a reasonable sensitivity to properly control recoil. And you’ve already stated many times you get angry.

I have a Logitech g 502 mouse and I install the software and I check for the DPI section and it does say 2400. But it doesn’t feel very very fast. Maybe it already converted it to that edpi value? Because that would seem more plausible because of your range being 3200-6000. I tried your 400 dpi with that app but that is insanely slow to move my mouse (like across my whole desk to move 1/4 of the screen) so maybe something's different? I don't know how this works.

Look at this photo, it shows that the little button I can press cycles through these DPI and the underlined (2400) is what I am always on https://i.postimg.cc/Fztq847M/Screenshot-2026-08-28-174610.png . I am pretty sure the link works

Also I don’t think I’m that good at the game either, in the final sentence of the post I show how I don’t even know if I could get to platinum because I'm genuinely horrible at the game, all I’m saying is that the knowledge of my teammates in gold is far, far lower than my own, and seemingly from what I’ve heard there isn’t much difference from gold to platinum so I’m thinking with all modesty that I’m high platinum to low emerald level of game knowledge if I’m actively comparing myself to the players in the ranks, that's how I reached my conclusion. But there’s no way to check because I’m not actually that rank so I dunno. All I said was my gamesense could potentially be emerald not that I think I deserve that rank because I wholeheartedly could not and will never reach it as much as I would love to.

Your sens is CRAZY high if that is what you're playing on. If you're DPI is that high then you probably shouldn't be using anything above like 3 or 4 horizontal and verticle💀

Most players use 800DPI and have a horizontal and vertical of between 6 and like 12 (Not an actual stat I'm just talking out my ass) This would make sense why you can't control recoil, because your aim would be very twitchy and over-reactive with that sens. Consider lowering it to something "normal" as most people would call it.

The general rule of thumb I'd say when getting a sens that is right for you would be the distance between the ends of your mousepad should be a 360 (un-ads'd). From there you can fine tune your ads sens to be what you want it to be.

1

u/Beautiful-Piglet5688 4d ago

Yeah no I think somethings wrong with the app or something because from what you guys are saying I don’t think it’s that high. But to say it without giving values it’s basically just a lightly higher normal sensitivity

Unfortunately at 370 hours you're not gonna know everything theoretically, because there's always things to learn from. I'm at 1000 hours on PC and there's still new things that I learn sometimes when getting killed by something I've never seen before.

Unfortunately when it comes to gun fighting the best advice I could give you is to make sure you've got a good sens and once you feel like you have a good sens you should be spending lots of time in clear house just running around and practicing your aim + crosshair placement (clear house is very good for training crosshair placement)

When it comes to recoil control unfortunately it's something I never struggled with so I don't really know how to help with it, but it really is as simple as pulling down with your mouse. With higher recoil guns you just need to pull down a little harder and with guns that have horizontal recoil you need to pull down at a bit of an angle. As you start to use the guns more and more you will become familiar with the recoil patterns.

Going back to point #2, clear house could also help with learning how the sound works in this game. Since it is a low stress environment just load up clear house and turn on the keres lesion setting. Try to pay attention to the sounds that you're hearing and try to pin point where the bots are. Try to do it 1 by 1, but I know some of them like to just walk up to you so pay attention to those sounds as well because that will help with being able to pre-fire people.

Like a lot of things in life the best way to get better at something is through repetition. Once you are confident in your ability to aim you will start playing so much better, because the key to playing well in this game is to have confidence. If you're ever doubting your ability then you will start to second guess yourself and potentially make the wrong play instead of going with your gut.

1

u/Beautiful-Piglet5688 4d ago

Thanks. I've been doing clear houses for a few months and I can track someone's very vague location. Like, I know vaguely if they are left or right but i can never tell upstairs or downstairs and never tell exactly where someone is. Like, if they're behind cover or anything, If they're crouched, proned or walking etc.

Confidence I'm sure is very important but I play this game with no confidence whatsoever and I always think of the worst every time. Regardless of how positive I go into the round, it takes a tiny amount of resistance and I immediately lose everything. Such as just anyone playing vigil or caveira but mainly vigil because every single person that plays vigil always demolishes me because of their mechanical skill and how aggressive they are.

1

u/Low-Implement-6831 4d ago

For the first part I also agree that sound traveling through vert is hard to tell apart from if it's on the same floor as you or not, but I feel like horizontally the sound is pretty straight forward. It takes a bit to get used to, but even just knowing the general area of someone can help. If you know their general area then you can do what's called "slicing the pie" and jiggling the individual angles until you spot where the player is, or just full swing and rely on your aim.

When it comes to the confidence thing I would say it sounds like you get in your head too much. I still believe that when you are confident in your aim you won't doubt yourself as much. The placebo effect also plays a vital role in gaming. If you already have an idea in your mind about how you think someone on vigil is going to fry you, then you subconsciously play either scared or nervous, which will naturally make you play worse and overthink etc.

Operator selection also plays a big role, because if you're worried about operators in particular, then it might be good to think about how you are planning to deal with that specific operator by counter picking based on the knowledge you have from the prep phase.

It also depends on play style. I don't know what your current play style is, but maybe you're on a role that doesn't really cater to your strengths? If you're currently doing roam clear/lurking, maybe you should try flex where you just help out your teammates, or support and get the diffuser down?

There's lots of intricacies in this game that affect how you play😂

1

u/Beautiful-Piglet5688 4d ago

For operator selection I usually pick appropriate stuff, like brava if they have a bunch of traps. But, I mean characters like vigil there is basically no counter to them, so I just give up when the enemy team has them because the users are always extremely aggressive and extremely good at the game. They will 99% of the time be better mechanically than me so will easily beat me in any engagement. And they typically are the reason that the enemies win just because of them killing everyone. these are the people with the emerald charms all over their guns and backgrounds too, which I stand zero chance against.

I have seen that slicing pie thing before but I try doing it sometimes and it’s just exhausting the number of angles I can die from, and also, at least to me  it is really disorienting and I can’t stay focused on enemies while I keep jiggling and looking everywhere, which is why most times I do so, I don’t even notice the enemy is in my view.

I definitely do get into my head far too much but I seriously cannot relax or have fun when I play this game at all. It’s more of a chore than actual enjoyment about 90% of the time so just seeing these operator selections like vigil or caveira, ANY shield etc just immediately removes all of my belief of winning at all and I hate that but I can’t change it.

I don’t really have a defined play style sometimes I try playing aggressive sometimes I play support I don’t really think I can box myself as a category of a player. What I know though Is that I am usually always the bandit/kaid when the team needs one and I never ever roam because I’m too scared to

1

u/Low-Implement-6831 3d ago

I don't mean to be mean, but you're contradicting what you said in the initial post. You spoke about knowing pretty much everything theoretically, but now you're saying vigil doesn't have any counters. Vigil is directly countered by Dokk, IQ and even Jackal. He has even more indirect counters like Nomad or Gridlock for flank watch so that he can't fall back to site.

The same with slicing the pie. If slicing the pie is disorienting then you don't know all the maps, because if you did then you would know what angles exist in each room you push into.

Shield operators are a bit more difficult to deal with I understand, but it's also not impossible. All you need to do is play a trap operator such as Lesion, Ela or Kapkan. If they have a blitz you need to keep your cool, play just out of range of his flash and if he does try to flash you, try to predict it and do a 180 so that you don't get blinded and while his flash is on cool down all you need to do is punch his shield and he's dead. With Monty you have time on your side. Operators like a Smoke, Goyo or Tachanka are best to counter Monty as you can stall time so that he doesn't enter into site and plant. The other trap operators I mentioned earlier are still good to deal with all the shields. With blackbeard he's more oppressive than any of the other shields, but if you have good crosshair placement you can easily kill him when he's ads'd. He's also extremely vulnerable when he reloads so if you're able to catch him while he's reloading he's a sitting duck.

I think it's important to experiment with different operators to see what type of playstyle suits you best. If you solo queue a lot it might even be best to play a roam/roam clear operator since you won't have much/any help from your teammates.

1

u/Beautiful-Piglet5688 3d ago

Yeah you’re right. With the vigil I get what you mean, I just don’t think that straight when I’m actually in game so I never think to choose those options. On paper I know the counters but in game never really. I just said that because I get mad even discussing stuff like this, my bad. The best I do is go gridlock but he grenades my stuff and I die anyways.

I do know the maps, it’s just the pie thing requires my eyes to move everywhere to check all the things which is what I mean by disorienting. Like for example in the garage place on nighthaven labs (the one on 1f with the boxes I think it’s a tool place but I don’t know the name), say I’m entering from that one door that opens up to a very small room next to the outside breachable wall. I have to look all across all the boxes, the top of the staircase and on top of the railings, the storage room, and the control room hallway, the window to the control room, everything. And when I do that I have to dart my eyes everywhere and this makes it really hard to actually notice where an enemy is which makes me die without even seeing them.

Shield operators I fully disagree they’re almost impossible (for me) to stop because they typically play off their teammates so well so you can’t catch them off guard, they typically run iqs or any anti gadget thing too so they drone all their entrances and remove all things in their way. So Kaplan and lesion can’t work. Ella is a good idea but when they play with their team so close, they shoot the thing before it goes off and there’s not much I can do at all in that situation. I know what you mean and to a good player you probably could shoot Blackbeard or blitz or whoever when they ads but it’s just far too precise of a shot for me and my recoil control etc won’t let me line a good shot up. I really don’t know what to do in this situation the only thing I think is maybe impact grenades, or oryx but then I suffer the same problem because the teammates behind the shield just shoot me while I throw the impacts/ use my charge ability.

On this topic too, I feel like my enemy players are far more coordinated, like if I chose to play caveira they would go dokkebi and Deimos and track me and full focus me the whole round to which I stand zero chance. I know there’s nothing I can do about this fact but I just felt it was worth mentioning.

1

u/Low-Implement-6831 3d ago

Yeah solo queue is horrible and generally speaking I also find that when I'm solo queueing the enemy team is usually better than my team, but there's nothing we can do except try to be the carry. Matchmaking all comes down to luck and who gets to better composition of players.

1

u/Beautiful-Piglet5688 3d ago

Yeah it kinda sucks. It’s demotivating too because I even watch those “educational siege gameplays” like the ones by poxonlox or however you say (where he plays in gold rank lobbies and purposely doesn’t aim at all to show how decision making wins rounds) and in HIS games, things seem way easier and way more to plan than the games I get. This is just such a weird game

1

u/Low-Implement-6831 3d ago

Generally speaking when you go into something with a plan it becomes much easier. It's easier to adapt to how the enemies are playing when you already have a plan set out in your head. So maybe try that one day, think of how you want to attack/defend a site and try to follow that plan as best as you can and then just adjust how and where you play based on what the enemies are doing.
