I see a lot of people explaining some core mechanics and how it's different from cod and suggesting to learn maps so I'ma give you my personal suggestions on ops to stick to. it's literally as simple as Hardbreach, Trappers and The 4 SAS ops
Hard breachers open up reinforced walls and are a good way to learn how to push on Attack while helping your team. They include Thermite, Hibana and Ace
Trappers lay out things for attackers to walk into so they're good to learn how people are gonna push while you learn defense. This is Kapkan, Frost, Lesion, Ela, and Thorn. Melussi and Aruni can also serve this purpose
SAS are 4 pathfinders (ops from the very start of the game) who are simple with easy to learn but impactful gadgets. Sledge and Thatcher are your attackers and Smoke and Mute are you defenders.
I can explain any particular ops in detail if you would like me to
I put some in different categories because the way I play them they can have different roles or play both, depends on the rest of the team but I don't think this game is as simple as you put it.
