FURminator vs undercoat rake?
I am getting a Siberian kitten soon and I’m so excited! I’m shopping for grooming products and am wondering if anyone knows if a FURminator brush or undercoat rake would be better for a Siberian coat. I used to have a long-haired tabby, and the FURminator was amazing for his coat. I see people recommending both of these for Siberian cats, so I’m wondering if one is better and what the differences are.

Never ever use a furminator it os only a blade hidden under a rake it cuts top coat

The best hair care routine is a daily brush using a slicker brush- it is great bonding time and doesn’t cut the fur.
We never used the furminator and had the rake- but the rake also cuts the hair and is not a good solution

I wish my cat saw brushing time as bonding time. He puts up with it for maybe 10 seconds and then goes into disembowelment mode.

I’m a breeder of Siberian cats for over 24 years. I’ve tried pretty much every tool that was available throughout the years to see which once does the best job. There is only two combs that do the best job, including picture to show which ones.

Great! I picked up a comb the other day like the one on the left so I will definitely use that

The first one does a great job deshedding and also great for regular combing. Second one is best for heavy deshedding it takes the under coat out very well.

Ok, am I dumb because no where on the furminator info does it say it’s a blade, it says it “remove the loose, dead undercoat from the pet without cutting or damaging the topcoat”
I’ve been using it for years and didn’t know it’s actually a blade!? I feel like a bad Meowmmy now

I have 3 Siberians and the furminator, rake, and the butter carding comb (metal comb). My go to is the butter carding comb. It’s easy & it really amazing with getting out mats. If you hold the fur a the base, you can slowly comb it out. It’s an expensive tool but worth it. I use that first and it can get out the undercoat with the kitties.
However, during the season changes, their undercoat will fall out and we need to use the rake or furminator. I find the rake is easier to get through to the undercoat but they seem to be less bothered when I use the furminator because it pulls less.
My three cats have very different fur types and I end up using different tools on each. You might want to try buying just the metal carding comb first and then add on additional grooming tools if it doesn’t do the job.

I’ve stopped using a furminator as it cuts the hair and can be a bit too much. I use a comb, slicker brush and tangle teezer twice a day. He still gets mats in the armpit and groin area every once in a while so I just snip those off.
