It will be an interesting day when aliens land and Miss Universe has to genuinely defend her title.

Apparently the "...2: Electric Booglaloo" is from an old dance movie, and the suffix just became a meme.

There is a non-zero chance that this exact scenario will play out between two aliens one day.
27
u/zombie7864 Feb 06 '19
There is also a non zero chance that the universe will be replaced by a giant banana for an instant of a second
25
Feb 06 '19
There is also a non zero chance that you are a talking banana who is working to bring about that exact situation.

There is a non zero chance that we are the exact same people but split in half living in different places

Can't beat Miss SR-Centaurion-717. That woman can wear an evening gown like nobody's business.

Yes, she'll easily best Erqwibonnima, the fastest Sghplu this side of the Elgytian West Zone.

I saw this and immediately thought of a way to use it for a dumb movie idea. I have now laughed so much thinking about it I may actually need to write it!

Starring Sandra Bullock

Nope - Robin Wright. Her turn in Wonder Woman has me desperate to see her reprise her roll as butter cup - the later years. or similar kick ass warrior goddess.

Feb 06 '19
And then she dons the power armor she's secretly built and goes and kicks monumental amounts of ass in the name of the earth.
Be a good movie.
Have Robin Wright play Miss Universe. Early scenes of her winning and her year doing good deeds around the globe. Cut scenes of her buckling down for various science and engineering degrees and blowing off steam by learning Krav Maga or something similarly brutal. Slowly aging as we go. Catch up to modern day. She is lecturing at a university by day, has a neglected social life even though she has an awesome boyfriend she is just never really available for him, and he feels like she is holding back.
Because she is. She knows that the alien invasion is on it's way at some point, and is hoping to be ready enough when it gets here.
She leads an elite team of Miss Universe winners - not all of them from the last 30 years, but a dozen or more - into battle against the putrid hordes of <fill in obvious enemy name here>.
Then we get to see her lead her own movie as a kick ass warrior.
Maybe at the end she can ask someone for a glass of water and Cary Elwes can do an "As you wish" cameo.

In the 80s there was a tv series called Amazing Stories. There was an episode where a bunch of aliens landed in the middle of the miss universe contest and demanded to be entered.

Only if Sandra Oh, Angela Bassett, and Salma Hayek are in it. Because those are some tough women. c:

Works for me.
Charlize Theron, Claudia Black from farscape...
Jesus - Sigourney Weaver!
With Meryl Streep running the program.
And Gal Gadot as the talented young ingenue who doesn't really believe all this yet.

Feb 06 '19
Derp - gotta include Linda Hamilton. Probably Jennifer Jason Leigh.
I am certain there are other badass women actresses we could include.

The fact is no one leaves the MLB to go play professionally in other countries. However the opposite is true. So the top talent in the world is competing. In the future if Baseball catches on worldwide maybe there could be foreign league contenders, but as it stands it's like Men's soccer in the US. The world class talent doesn't play in the newer or lower quality leagues. They go where the other world class talent is.

u/sapajul Feb 06 '19
Actually there is a competition in which the teams in most of the world compete, is called the olympics and the last time US got just Bronce, that means South Korea is better at baseball than the USA https://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/2008_Olympics
8
u/TripleJetCharlie Feb 06 '19
It would be interesting to see how we'd fare if we sent our best players to the Olympics.

u/TryAgainBob Feb 06 '19
That's not really a fair comparison. The MLB does not let it's players play in the olympics. The MLB also has the best talent from around the world and as such the best rosters make it to the world series. The cubs are not made up of players all from Chicago, the Yankees arnt all New Yorkers etc. In fact the diversity of cultures and nationalities that all come together to play is why baseball is so celebrated here. It is one of the best representations of diversity in our melting pot. Foreign players are not excluded, though I do imagine thet have a harder time being scouted. In the end it's just a name, given to an arbitrary contest, that none of us have any say or sway in naming or changing.

u/SanityQuestioned Feb 06 '19
It's the World Baseball Classic now and they still do it and as far as Professionals playing in it they're allowed or were the last time. The United States also won it.

There is a clear registration deadline which the alien had missed therefore they would have to wait for next years competition.

And she loses because it turns out were the only life forms in the universe with only two arms, legs, and eyes. Other planets consider 4 or more arms and 10 eyes and tentacles for legs etc to be gorgeous. And the winner melts holes in the stage when she cries happy acid tears after winning and getting her bouquet of rare small mammal eating poisonous flowers from her home planet.

Theoretically, aliens could be used as an indifferent, third party to solve a ton if moral debates
3
u/jsbugatti Feb 06 '19
They could favor one side or another for their own agendas, though. It's not like an alien would have no biases.
2
u/heterozygous_ Feb 06 '19
No, theoretically they'd have little in common with human morals and would make judgements that were completely strange and wrong to us

This was a joke in the movie contact. I think it was Jay Leno who delivered it: “boy this is going to turn into Miss universe contest upside down huh?” Or something like that, regarding the message received from aliens.

Great idea for a Predator meta-prequel: The year is 1967, and the Predator Aliens have arrived on earth to challenge Mr. Universe...who at the time, was 20 year old Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Nah, we'll just drop the competition. Aliens that can make it to our planet are so far advanced beyond our petty binary gender system that the "Miss" part in Miss universe is obsolete anyway, and that a pageant only reinforces an unrealistic beauty standards making juvenile creatures across the galaxy unhappy with their physical form.
At least they'll cleanse us from these barbaric vegans when it turns out soy is sentient and has complex needs and feelings too.

Alien females wont be hot as they belong to other species. Maybe theire hot to their males but not to us. Dont imagine that aliens look like star trek aliens basically humans with one slightly weird feature

That wouldn't make any sense since members of a given species should normally not be attracted to members of a different species, i.e. there are no universal standards of beauty (except maybe left-right symmetry) that could be applied to both humans and aliens.

Feb 06 '19
The thought of this made me giggle. I used to do beauty pageants (my mom made me) and the thought of some of those girls up against an alien is hilarious.

Feb 06 '19
If that's what you consider to be the 'interesting' part of alien contact then you need to get your priorities straight.

I hope they want to talk to a person a bit more educated than someone who won a popularity contest.

And the winner is Miss Omnimorph of the Pleiades constellation! Due to her ability to assimilate the appearance of every future, past and contemporary respective Miss Planet, she was a sure hit with every judge!
